(For storage)
I have a lot (and I do mean a lot) of washi tape. A lot of it is just stored loosely in little open boxes. I bought some containers, and I’m going to make some dividers and then stand the rolls on end so I can actually see what each roll looks like.
The problem I have encountered is that I have a lot of glitter washi tape. The glitter washi is “paper backed”, so rolls unwind after the first use. If I tape or tack the loose end down on to the roll, everything I’ve tried mars or damages the spot where the tape or tack touches the roll. Am I making sense?
I’m trying to find a way to secure the loose end of washi tape so it doesn’t unroll and the roll doesn’t get damaged.
Has anyone found a successful method of preventing paper backed washi from unrolling for storage?

Depending on the width of the tapes (prob wouldn't work for super skinny ones), you could try using polybands, aka hair bands. I haven't used them for this exact purpose (used them on ribbon rolls, which is similar but obviously fabric is more durable) but they are nice because they're not as intense as office supply rubber bands, they definitely have less tension/pressure so they're less likely to leave marks on paper/other stuff. One downside is that they can get stretched out over time and break, but they're so inexpensive that it's not a big deal. I actually like this brand from Amazon because they're all one size, but I thought the Target picture showed the item better in case you're not familiar with them.

I know my DD wears her hair in a ponytail a lot in the summer when they go to the lake. I’ve seen the “ouch-less” cloth covered type around her house. (Her cats play with them. LOL). I need to ask her if she has any of the poly kind. Thanks!

I found the hairbands at Target. They had hundreds for a couple of bucks. Also, you could try the green tape. Not sure if it would work on glitter though.

I’ve tried green painters tape, blue painters tape, a blue-ish low tack tape (maybe Cricut brand?) and several different ugly washi tapes. None of them stick! My DH suggested I tape a small piece of Saran Wrap and wrap that around the roll. That works, but it’s kind of fiddley to work with. I’m definitely going to try the hair bands in clear. They’re inexpensive and won’t obscure the colors of the washi. Thanks!

I take some of the paper backing off and stick the washi tape to itself. No issues with it unrolling.

I've been very careful to keep them away from her since then. Please tell your daughter my story.

I use small rubber bands or hair bands. Works well for me.

Update
Thanks for all of the suggestions. I could not find any kind of tape that would stick on the Glitter washi. Because it was near by, I went to a CVS drugstore and purchased two types of poly bands. The “Goody” brand turned out to be far too small. The other package, which was an off brand, turned out to be exactly what I needed. I needed to stretch them a little with my fingers to enlarge them just a little bit, and then they neatly slipped around the roll of tape. I like how the bands are clear so they don’t obscure the color and texture of the different kinds of glitter tape.
I’m not sure just how durable they will be and if they will break when taken on and off. They were inexpensive, and it was a pretty large package, so replacing a broken band occasionally will not be a problem. The clear poly bands are an affordable, simple solution.
Thank you!
