Somebody likes chairs! And not just in the chapel!

Ha! I am only part way through the photos and I had to return here to see if there were comments on all the places to sit! Thanks for not disappointing me!

I read the article in the paper on the house. It was purchased by a Diocese. They added the chapel and dorm room. Now it makes more sense. But I thought the furniture in the bedrooms did not match the rest of the house.

They definitely didn’t go with such an elegant home.

It's really not in very good condition. A lot of the woodwork looked either dirty or damaged. And why does it have wall-to-wall carpeting in the main area on the first floor? What did they cover up? Lots of broken cement outside. In my very unprofessional opinion, the asking price of over $5 million is too high.

The home definitely needs some TLC both inside and out. I have no idea what Nebraska prices are like and whether or not that home is accurately priced. You could save a lot of money by buying this This house for $1,685,000. It is 10 years younger and not as large and has less property. But it also has one more bedroom and one more bathroom while being about 2,000 ft smaller. It appears to be in better condition. I like the dark wood trim and wood floors. More care went into bathroom furnishings as well. Unless someone absolutely needed the property and extra space of the other home, I would be choosing this instead. Not that any million dollar plus home is in my future. I would be moving into the 1 bedroom 1 bath carriage house above the garage in this home. My piddly old generic and plain California house is valued for around $1,035,000 right now and believe me, it is woefully overpriced, especially compared to this home.

$5,000,000 and they couldn't even make the beds neatly?! I like Lexica's house, though it looks weird to have such a gigantic home with neighbors so close. But what do I know - I live in the city. LOL

That area of town had some really beautiful houses years ago. Fun to look in one and see the woodwork. At over $500 per square foot, I'm going to have to take it off my list. I laughed when I saw it had over 600 saves.

LOL Yeah, it does feel strange. The house was built in 1917, and I imagine there were few, if any homes built close to this one like they are now. I looked at the price history and the last sales price was $700,000, down from $910,000 when originally listed for sale in 2015. I’m curious as to what that owner paid for it. I truly can’t imagine living in any of these huge houses. Maybe if I was 25 years old, full of energy, and had multiple kids to fill the rooms. There is another home around the corner from this one valued at $1,300,000 and is much smaller and 4 bedrooms, 3.5 baths. That price value on that house makes the one I linked look like a really good value with 10 bedrooms and 7 baths for only $300,000 more. These prices seem all over the place. There is another home down the street in the $400,000 range.

My first thought is that maybe it's a group home of some sort, with lots of chairs and areas for meetings.
I've never seen bath towels hung on the inside wall above the tub before. I guess that makes it easy to dry off.
It looks like it started out as a very grand house, then over the years.... all repairs, fixes and remodels were done as cheap as possible. Leaving it as a mix of grand and do-it-yourself fixer upper.

Yes! Lexica house is far better, brighter... But the stacked washer and dryer IN the bedroom? Not in a closet or anything?

Not gonna lie, I kind of dig that library with all the bookshelves. I’d love having a library room in my house because I have a crapton of reference books that I don’t want to get rid of and nowhere to store them.

Yes! Lexica house is far better, brighter... But the stacked washer and dryer IN the bedroom? Not in a closet or anything? At least that is in the above-garage carriage house and not the main home. If I was living in that carriage house, which is one bed, one bath, with a kitchen, I would be happy to at least have a washer/fryer and not have to keep hitting an independent laundromat. I agree with you though, I would have something built to conceal them. I loved the bookcases with what they described as leaded glass doors and the fireplace in the bedroom. I also see there is a brick chimney on the garage, but didn’t see a fireplace in the carriage house photos. Did they put fireplaces in garages in 1917? I suppose if there is a workshop in the garage, it would be much appreciated. I know it gets cold in Nebraska. My ex fiancé was from Nebraska and we took several trips there to visit his mother. And there was snow on the ground on our final trip out there to close down her place after she passed. She lived in a small town and they had the nicest service for disposing of your stuff. My ex just loaded up the car with what he wanted to keep, mailed a few boxes of things back home, and then called this man who comes and clears everything else out and puts the stuff in his weekly estate sale held in his barn just outside of town. He even took his dad’s car when he passed and sold it. You just receive a check in the mail when your stuff sells. How easy is that? I’ve heard of estate sales where they sell everything from your home, but not one who picked everything up and sold from their own facility. Then again, there were not many barns in Orange County! I can’t believe how much I miss my fireplaces from the California house. This one has a little gas stove in what the previous owner used as her family/TV room and I am using as my office. I put a recliner in there and find myself having my coffee next to the gas stove every morning. And Winston, my pup, loves it too. I put a fuzzy dog bed in front of it and he spreads out, enjoying the morning heat. We are in the office with the gas stove on right this minute since I forgot to put a jacket on to take the trash cans out and got chilled. I am just in capris and a short-sleeved T-shirt and flip flops and I am still not used to the cold outside, having lived where the temp was usually not colder than the 60s in the winter.

This is probably one of the worst houses (other than just plain nasty houses) I have ever seen. I can't even come up with anything except Why?

This house is either going to be renovated or restored but either way it's going to cost a lot of money! I was curious so I looked for the most expensive house being sold in MA: $48M on Nantucket.

It looks like it used to be the governor's mansion and then became a religious cult house complete with chapel for marrying your underage brides who will then live in the dorms upstairs with cheap linens on the beds. The "good bedroom" is for those lucky enough to be chosen to spend the night with their 70 year old husband. Those were my very first thoughts.
It's incredibly overpriced but I do LOVE the house overall, with some work it could be so grand again.

It’s a matter of location. This is prime “East of 72nd” Omaha. It’s on a huge lot. I doubt it will sell for that price, but one of the many moving here from the west coast will snatch it up and turn it into a gray and white ode to the ‘20s. They’ll probably also paint the red brick white.
