I'll be moving into a brand new house soon and am wondering if I should take the time to put shelf liners in all the cabinets and drawers. Would you?

Yes! I didn't get to all of them right away, but one area I got just in time. I lined the bottom of the cabinet under the kitchen sink with contact paper and a few weeks later we got a leak and it knocked over a bottle of cleaner with an unsecured top. With the liner it was a snap to clean up. Without the liner the wood would have been ruined.

We don't have a brand new house, but we do have a brand new bathroom and the first thing I did was line every drawer and cupboard. I will be doing the same again when the kitchen is replaced. It's a little effort / cost that has greater payback in that you're prolonging the life and appearance of the new cabinetry. Why wouldn't you want to do that?
I didn't use Contact though. I used the liners on rolls you can get from costco. I like to be able to replace them easily when they get a bit dirty / worn.

We built our house and did not do shelf liner. It was kind of liberating! It's been 3 years and I have no regrets about not doing it.

I never bothered to line any of my shelves or drawers when we moved in our brand new house. It's only something I'd think to do when living in an older place or a rental, etc.

Not to be mean but, I can't stand the liners. When we moved into our house the first thing I did was pull those out and I did not replace them. For some reason they remind me of something old and dirty.

I have read that it is less sanitary to use liner than not.

I don't like shelf liners either. I've never ruined a shelf or a drawer by not having liners, and they're easy to wash without.

I lined all mine when I moved into my new house...like 15 years ago.... I removed it all a few years ago and never looked back. And it was a PITA to remove!

I use liners in the bathroom but not in the kitchen. My drawers with utensils have those plastic compartments that I take out and clean when the mood strikes me. I had them in my cupboard with the drinking glasses until the little plastic bits started to come up with the rim of the glass.

I lined my kitchen and bathrooms when we moved in. I have white cabinets and shelves and I didn't want them marred up. I used a heavy, clear liner that has a ridged texture that I bought at Bed, Bath and Beyond. It wasn't cheap but well worth it IMO.

For some reason they remind me of something old and dirty. Me too. But I REALLY wish I'd used them in the bathroom drawer where someone dumped Nyquil and didn't clean it up thoroughly.

I can't stand drawer liners! I don't see the advantage.. The drawer still get dirty, it still needs to be washed, and now on top of still needing to clean the drawers, the liner needs to be replaced too.

No, I think they're a waste of time. Why make work for yourself?

I never use liners...new house or pre-occupied. I don't see the need, personally.

I didn't. We were so busy with all of the painting and other stuff I had no desire to mess with shelf or drawer liners. Maybe someday I'll do it.

I put some of that rubber netting in everything. It pulls out for cleaning and saves the surfaces from scratches from pots/pans/utensils.

To line or not line, that is the question.
It seems the peas are pretty divided on this one. I personally like to line the shelves and drawers in any house, new or not. For me it is not a sanitary issue, but an issue of protecting the surfaces. I love that if there is a spill or a leak, I can quickly and easily either wipe up the mess, or just replace the liner if needs be. In our master bathroom vanity cupboard, there is one area that is slightly exposed and has slight water damage from a slow drip leak we did not find right away, The ares that are protected with the liner did not suffer and damage.
