I hope i can explain this right. I have looked on all the mega thread for the Cameo. I am a new user but pretty comp say. I love the designs from the Silhouette store. My question is with images in the store. When you download them to your library and then open them, most of them are cutting files and separate pieces. I figured out how to fill them and change patterns or colors. But I can not get them grouped together so it looks like a clipart image. Is this possible? I feel like I'm missing a step. I have been googling all day today. Trying to finish a few Cmas projects. I don't want to have to cut out each piece and then piece them. Although that's fun too. Does that make sense. For some reason they are not lining up. I don't have designer studio, but I do have a subscription. I am hoping Santa will bring me the download for the Studio. I do a lot of photoshop.

I'm not sure I understand what you are saying. Are you trying to put the pieces back together, on top of each other, to make a print and cut?
If so and you're having difficulty with that, you have to right click and bring to the front on each item you are stacking. If you stack them all back together, then box it all together, you should be able to group it. I don't see any reason why you can't group it back together.
Not sure if that helps.

As far as I know, you cannot take different pieces/colors of cardstock and weld them together to make one image. Is that what you are asking? You would have to cut different colors and piece them and glue them by hand. I may have misunderstood what you were asking. I don't know anything about the print and cut feature.

If I understand you correctly, you want to make the cutting files (most of which are intended to be cut from different papers or cardstock and glued together to make the final product) into a print and cut file. So that you don't have to take the time for paper piecing each project.
I have not actually done that. It should be possible, at least in theory.
I still use the Legacy software. There is a little icon that looks like a pair of scissors. That opens the options for changing the cutting lines. Theoretically, you should be able to use that option to make it so that only the outside line will cut, BUT I assume you would need to turn off all cut lines for all the parts first, then make the lined up and layered design a compound path, and finally choose the option to make only the outside line be cut. That is what I would try.
I may be missing a step, since I have only done print and cut once or twice. It's not really a feature that I particularly care about. I happen to love (and prefer) paper piecing, even though it takes time to assemble.
If the above suggestion doesn't work, I suggest you ask your question on the Silhouette Plus forum. They are the Silhouette experts. If you aren't a member there, you should join. They have a ton of free tutorials, and they are very helpful.

Another option might be to create the cutting file as a paper piecing, scan it into Photoshop, then import it into the Silhouette software. Trace around the edge to get the cut line, and you would have a print & cut file that you can use for making multiples of that design, like if it is for a project that you want to give to several people, such as a card or decorated box or something.

Yes I think you that's what I'm meaning. I wondered if I could move into photoshop once I get the upgraded software to make it one image. I think I might have to ask on the Silhouette board. But yes trying to make them all one shape so it looks like what the thumbnails look like to print. Especially on some of the more detailed ones, like the cute penguins and snowman for Christmas. I was making tags and I did a few of them in paper piecing but I wanted to just print some of them images and then cute them out whole but I guess I could do that with my own clipart instead.

I take cut files and make them into print and cuts all the time. It is easy to do once you understand it.

You certainly could do that with your own clip art.
However, there are also a number of print and cut files offered for sale. They have a little "P" in a tiny box next to each image that is to let customers know which ones are print and cut. Even though I am not really interested in Print & Cut files in general, there have been some adorable Print & Cut designs that I have downloaded just because they were so cute. I would have preferred to download a paper pieced version, but if Print & Cut is the only way a super cute file comes, I will download it.

I had bought some that were like clipart so I think that's why I was confused as to not making the others like that.

If you are just looking for clip art to make tags, it may be easier to just pick out some clip art that you find online and then use the trace feature to cut them out.

You may also be able to do a search at Silhouette for print and cut designs. The search feature isn't great, and it will bring up some things that didn't fit the category, but it may make it easier to find those that are print and cut designs rather than paper pieced.
