Empress Mini plate size update: Both annagriffin.com and HSN confirmed the plate size that comes with the machine as 4.5 inches wide, with a machine opening at 4.75 inches. The peas said no, plates are 4.25 inches wide. That is correct. I have received my machine and the plates indeed measure 4.25 inches wide with a machine opening of 4.75 inches. That extra 1/4 of an inch isn't that important to me, but it is slightly aggravating that both websites and confirmed emails from the company were incorrect. Other than that, I am LOVING cutting with this baby. I'm hoping someone here can answer this, I don't seem to having much luck looking at websites and I am waiting to hear back from annagriffin.com. The opening for the machine is 4.75 inches. Plates that come with it are 4.5 inches wide. However the long plates (like to use slimline dies) are listed as 4.25 inches wide. For those that have the machine and also have the long plates, is this accurate? I am just nervous about ordering these plates as I think I will need that extra .5 inch, that is kind of a lot. And why would the normal plates be wider than the long plates? I took a leap and ordered this off HSN when they had it for 129 plus free shipping, so wish me luck! Update: I heard back from Annagriffin.com and they did confirm that the plates that come with the machine are 4.5 inches wide, while the long plates are 4.25 inches wide. They said the reason was that the long plates are made for border dies which are not as wide. Ahh, ok then. I also asked if there were any plates that utilized the width of the opening if the machine (4.75 inches) and she said no. No reason given. I think it will be okay as 99.9% of my dies are less than 4.5 inches wide.

I also asked if there were any plates that utilized the width of the opening if the machine (4.75 inches) and she said no. No reason given. That's interesting. I wonder if it's to give a little wiggle room in case you don't feed perfectly straight. I know I mess up my Big Shot plates all the time by not getting them quite square and that's even with my hand-cranking, so in theory I should catch the problem before I start shredding plastic. With an automated machine feeding things through crooked could probably create more issues. A little odd that the long plates aren't quite as wide as the regular though. OH! maybe it's the same reasoning but the longer the plate is, the more that feeding in crooked could result in the plates getting munched (if I'm imagining it correctly). You feed in slightly off-square and by the time the end of the long plate goes through it's way off and the edges get chewed up. Does that make sense?

It does make sense, I also found out from another Pea that the long plates and the short ones are the same width. Which is completely different than what annagriffin.com and HSN says. Sigh...
