If you could only purchase one flat themed embellishment - either the cardstock sticker sheet or ephemera/diecut pack - from any given collection (ETA: that inevitably repeats the same icons/sentiments throughout the papers/embellishments/tools), which do you typically prefer & why?

diecuts - they are more versatile for me...I can use them flat or pop-dotted on a layout or add them to a card...I can even do a little surgery on them and only use part if that's what the layout needs.

I can't choose because to me it doesn't really matter depending on which ones I like better. I can make the stickers into ephemera by adding a little powder on the back of it. Although there is this:
Ephemera: More expensive, but you get more pieces usually, but also some of them are too small and I don't even like them anyway.
Stickers: Cheaper prices, but less, and there is also always some I don't like.

I like the dimension of the ephemera (even though it is really similar to a sticker) and I like that they are much easier to work with. You can start trying them in different places without sticking them down. If you have to powder them so they don't stick, then you end up using tape anyway. Most of my older paper lines have stickers and I am always more excited about a line when it has ephemera. I wouldn't say no to either though.

I find them so similar First, I check which has fewer "unusable" pieces! An example - the recent Doodlebug pets line. Didn't like the kitty ephemera at all because there were a lot of buildings and houses and one of a truck getting a cat out of a tree... But the sticker sheet was just cats in various situations at home so I went with that.
If they are generally equal, I'll go with ephemera as I prefer the matte/paper finish instead of the slick finish of a sticker.

I mostly buy Doodlebug so I'll answer based on that. The die cut packs are really great value for me and great sizes. It's easy to store them (I keep them in pocket pages grouped by how I'm planning to use them on cards). It's easy to audition them and move them around, layer them and add scrap cardstock dimension, and easier to unstick them and change my mind without ruining them. And I like the matte cardstock.

I mostly prefer the die cuts, just for dimension and ease of use as others said. However, when they are super similar and I am trying to be more budget minded, I have gone with the stickers.

I guess I don’t understand what the different is.

Card stock stickers. I say that because most of the time they include more variety with icons and blank circles, squares, strips that I can layer, use ad a grounding piece, or write in.
The ephemera packs are typically shapes that aren't always easy to layer or are bigger than I want.

Die cuts. I don't want to risk losing the stickiness of my stickers before I use them, I am a slow scrapbooker. Also I actually prefer the older type stickers that really stuck down flat, often the edges of the thick cardstock stickers don't stick down.

Stickers. I wouldn't want to have to choose. I use whatever goes with the photographs, that are going on the layout.

Stickers. They are less expensive and generally have the same designs/icons.

Oh ok, thanks! I vote for the diecuts- really don’t like stickers. But I prefer chipboard over both of those.

I would probably say die cuts - just for a bit more versatility.

I like both because I like having a mix of sizes. I add dimension to either one by just using foam tape. But if I could only pick one, I guess ephemera, though I don’t have a good reason to back it up.

I went with die cuts. I usually use that little bag thing on my stickers so they essentially become die cuts. That way I can move things around the page more easily without the adhesive ruining anything.

Thanks for your responses & participation in the poll. Like the majority of you, I prefer ephemera/diecuts (pre-cut, not punch-outs) due to the matte finish, lack of adhesive, non-themed labels/tabs/tags/etc often included, etc.

I usually go with the ephemera. Usually there are more usable pieces and I like that they have a bit of depth. The cardstock stickers often have words or phrases I wouldn’t use.

I like--and purchase--them both. I think I prefer the diecuts b/c they can be layered and lifted up for a little dimension. For the tiny elements, the stickers make it easier not to lose them.

... I think I prefer the diecuts b/c they can be layered and lifted up for a little dimension. For the tiny elements, the stickers make it easier not to lose them. I add a layer of (scrap) cardstock behind stickers for stability before adhering foam adhesive (on the rare occasion I desire more height). Small elements on a sticker sheet are more convenient as long as they remain sticky (otherwise, they're just like small ephemera - pooled in the bottom of my 4x6 Iris photo boxes)!

I use them the same. My brain doesn't see them differently in how I'm going to use them in a layout. So sometimes I buy both, even if there overlap. But usually I buy the one that has the designs I like the best.
I usually cut up my cardstock sticker sheets and store them individually with the diecuts. And I purge this every couple of years and get rid of designs I'm just not going to use. There is a local teacher who loves donations.

I just received the PinkFresh grab box and it has both in it. Something new to me - cardstock flair! I remember how the old flair used to rust and ruin our layouts. This lays flatter and could probably be popped up with a pop dot. They'd also be good on cards!

I often buy both because choosing between them would be like choosing between my niece & my nephew. Can't do it. LOL
