I am curious about your go to items to add texture to your pages. artbabe has been creating some really interesting threads for us and the thread about dimension made me wonder what you all do for texture on your pages? Do you love paper on paper, or do you always add something else for a bit of variety? Lately, I have really been loving the acetate pieces that 49 & Market are coming out with. I like that they are flat enough to tuck in anywhere, but I really appreciate the variety it adds instead of all just paper layers. I've also been dabbling in some acrylic pieces from Color Cast Designs, and trying to incorporate more wood veneer on my pages. Enamel dots are always a must for me and I have a large stash of ribbon, that I would like to start using again.

I love texture and dimension on my layouts. My go to items are Color Cast acrylic and wood pieces, burlap, twine and cheesecloth.
I will occasionally add handstitching to my layouts, but it is time consuming. I want to dig out my sewing machine and give that a try.

For texture I will rough up the edges of paper or tear it, use twine or embroidery thread, wood veneer, add machine sewing, add little bundles of thread, and add layers of embellishments and paper. Sometimes a little ribbon but not circa 2006 amounts of ribbon. I don't use mixed media so I don't add texture that way.

I don't do anything consistently, but I love torn distressed inked edges, texture paste, burlap or twine, paint. If a medium or supply suits the story I want to tell, it goes onto the page.

Yay! More scrappy threads!
I do: torn edges hand sewing. I've never done machine sewing and I love the look. My sister has my sewing machine at the moment, though. ribbon and twine doilies- I love doilies vellum - I haven't done that in awhile and I really like the look- time to dig it out someone on another thread mentioned burlap. I used to love it- time to dig it out of my stash. I like the 49 & Market acetate, too. I'm especially in love with the film strips. Someone above mentioned cheesecloth. I know I have some in my stash somewhere. Hmmmm. Paper leaves. I use them a lot more than the Prima flowers, but I'll occasionally dig those out, too. wood pieces metal pieces
I always use textured cardstock, except when I use kraft cardstock. I don't like the look of smooth cardstock nearly as much. I use stencils all of the time, but I've never used texture paste. I bought a jar of it, though, so I'm going to try it soon.
So that is actual texture. For visual texture I have a whole other list.

I always use textured cardstock, Yes. Love the visual weight it gives to a page. Most of mine are linen texture, but I have--and hoard--a few with chevrons and dots. What is your favourite?

Physical texture is achieved with paper - various textured cardstocks, embossed (with embossing folders), distressed edges (with a distressing tool), etc. - & embellishments, such as twine/embroidery floss or ribbon tied on tags, diecuts (usually cut with punches or dies), etc., while implied/visual texture is added via inking edges, stenciling, basic stamping, mix of patterned papers, etc.

I just bought a set of digital gesso papers that I look forward to using. I love using gesso styles, stitching, canvas papers and overlays, torn edges.
I wish that I could find a Photoshop action that makes a distressed / roughed up edge.

Pretty much if I am using texture it is something premade, like the afore mentioned 49 and Market acetate. I like enamel items, some occasional brads, and some textured paper, especially foils.
I also like found items like paper doilies, artificial flowers and greenery, fabrics, wood and metals. I like sanding on paper and I also like foam popping a whole lot!
And then there is glitter like stickles! Love that!
