My husband and I just relocated. I wasn't sure if I was going to work. We bought a house closer to his office than we ever have been for him. He doesn't mind driving but has been loving the short commute compared to other places we have lived. I was contacted and offered a position I would love, but it is a longer drive than I have ever had. This would be the only deal breaker about the position.

The longest commute I ever did was 30 minutes in ideal traffic - and actually crossed from SC into NC. During rush hours, it became more like 45 minutes. And that is the absolute longest I’d ever want to do. Fifteen is ideal and I’ve been lucky enough to be at that for every other job.
My husband does 45 minutes each way every day. He uses that time to make lots of phone calls so it isn’t wasted.

I work 2 part time jobs and drive about 7 minutes to each. I'm very spoiled and I'm not sure I'd want to drive further for anything I didn't absolutely love.

I would prefer no more than 30 minutes. We live in a snowy climate and 30 can easily become an hour when weather is bad.
Max I have done is 50 minutes for about three years. Not sure I'd be willing to do that again.

I voted 45 minutes ...
Right now, my commute is 30 minutes in the morning (very early) and about 40 minutes in the afternoon (heavier traffic) ... I HATE it!
I'm a teacher so I do it because I'm not looking to change schools at the moment ...

For full-time work, my regular commute was 30 minutes. There would have been few options closer. Now, 30 minutes for me is almost all country driving. I didn't get to my first stoplight until I was 5 minutes from the office on one of the routes I could take. I've done some temp work that was a little further and I did resent having to drive so far for what was then low pay.
However, I did contract work for a few years. I did not work every day - usually 2 to 3 days per week. I frequently drove 1 1/2 hours each way. The pay was good enough that I didn't mind. In fact I'd take those jobs again in a heartbeat if they were still available. I loved the work, the people, the location, everything.
So the drive is not a make or break choice for me.

My last job was a 35-40 min drive one way (33 miles). I HATED it. It made the day so much longer than it needed to be. My current commute is about 7 minutes and it is so nice. I want more time with my family, not in my car.

I picked up to 30 but might be willing to go further/longer depending on the job.
Now my drive in is 20 - 25 minutes because of traffic. Coming home at midnight iI is only about 15. During the Winter it may take a bit longer each way.

Well, I voted up to 60 because that's what I do and have for 26 years (though I now work from home 2-3 days a week). But I wouldn't recommend it. But the benefits are great and we needed the top notch health insurance. I can't wait until retirement.

When I first started at Walmart, I drove about 35 minutes one way. I was also taking college classes at a satellite campus in the same town. At one point I was driving over there every dang day. It got old.
If I were to work for them again, nearest ones are about 15 minutes one way. There's 5 here and I think the furthest is about 35 minutes, depending on traffic.
On flea market stuff, only have to drive about 10 minutes to stock. To buy stuff, depends on where I go

I voted an hour because that's how long it takes me. During covid times it was more like 35-40 min.
It's not ideal but I go where the money is.

Given where we live, 30 minutes is my max in good weather. DH used to commute an hour one way to work, spending two hours a day in the car. He hated it. We agreed we would never do that again unless it was short term. Now he's 10 minutes from the office and so much happier.

For 8 yrs before I retired my commute was 75 to 90 minutes one way 4 days a week. All but about the last 10 miles was open road, no stop lights, mostly light traffic which made it almost bearable. I wouldn’t do it now for any amount of money.

I think the distance I would be willing to drive would depend on how long the shifts were, how much I was being paid, type of road, etc. I spent ten years driving 75 minutes one way to work three times a week. (Stayed over two nights to cut down on the driving). It was open road, not much traffic. And my job was one I enjoyed.

I drove 16-18 minutes to work every day for 28 years. It wasn't bad. That time easily doubled when we got some snow. Then I worked 5 minutes from my house for 5 years and only went into the office one day a week. It was glorious. I could be eating breakfast at ten till the hour and in my cubicle by the hour. I think it depends on the job benefits. Now I am back to diving 16-18 minutes and only work 3.5 hours a day. Perfect schedule.

My morning commute is about 45 minutes and my evening commute averages 60 minutes. That has been my commute times for about the past 15 years. Before that I was able to take a commuter train. That was so nice, even if it still took an hour. I only have a few more years, so I put up with it. I would love a 15 minute commute, even 30 minutes is nice. But, it is what it is. Pre Covid, I was allowed to work from home one day a week. During Covid, it was so wonderful to work from home 5 days a week for over 2 years! Now, I only have to go into the office twice a week, plus if needed for a big meeting or something.

My morning drive is usually about 25 minutes. Getting home is rarely under 45 minutes and typically it’s just about an hour. I’ve never had a commute under 20 minutes.

The last office I worked at where I drove, was about a 45 minute drive. But it could blow out to 60 minutes in peak hour. Then our office moved into the city, and there was no way I was going to drive. 1. Too far in awful peak hour traffic. 2. Parking too expensive. So I started taking the train.
I only go into the office one day a week now, and I actually enjoy it. I grab a coffee at the station, or DSO makes me one at home to take with me, and I sit in a corner seat on my own, and watch TV on my phone. It is a lovely way to start the day! Even though going by train takes me 1 hour 20 minutes door-to-door each way, I prefer that than having to drive 45-60 minutes in hideous traffic.
A work friend drove me home from the office yesterday, and as we sat in the Punt Road / Hoddle Street traffic, not moving, I said to her "This is why I prefer to take the train."

My commute is an hr and 20 each way. The only saving grace is that I don't have to go every day. But I'm a social work professor and I had to take the job that was available. I also gave up tenure and went down in rank. But I make more money and I did it to be with my husband, whose job is not portable. I was lucky enough to work from home in the spring semester when the bulk of the hard winter weather happens. I hope this will continue.

I commute 30-35 minutes each way (40+ if there is an accident on the freeway) and that’s the longest I want to be on the road. I work from home one day per week.

These days, 30 min in traffic.
I lived in the far suburbs for 20 years where my commute was 30 min in ideal conditions and usually 45 min to 1.5 hours. Occasionally up to 2 hours. I put that house on the market the week my twins graduated high school and there’s no looking back.
Now my commute is 15 min in ideal conditions and 30 in traffic. It was the best change I’ve ever made. Sitting in traffic at the beginning and end of every day is such a mood spoiler and I feel like I have so much more of my life back.

I’m retired so my answer is zero minutes. When I was gainfully employed I would drive 30 minutes.

Verbally (in an ideal world), I would say 45 minutes max, but my actual commute to work is between 50 and 75 minutes (I take the metro). I only need to go downtown 3 days a week, so it's not so bad. But post-pandemic, it's very unsafe. If I drove, it would take 45 minutes to get to work, but going home averages 75-90 minutes - which is why I take the train.

My current school is 15 min from my house. I would be willing to drive 30 if needed. I like having time in the car to unwind. Thankfully I don’t have to drive through traffic though!

My maximum distance gets shorter as I get older. When I was younger, I drove up to an hour each way, which is pretty typical in Houston. For the past three years it's been 20-25 minutes, and next year it will be a very short drive or a ten-minute walk. I hope not to have a commute longer than that ever again. (I'm currently working at a summer music intensive which is about 25 minutes away, but it's temporary.)
