There is a lot of emphasis by the influencers/celebs on storytelling when it comes to scrapbooking. Do you think that every layout needs a story? Is all your journaling in the form of a story, or are the 5 Ws enough? (Just for fun; not judging anyone.)

Storytelling sometimes involves a lot more than I’m willing to give when I’m scrapping. Most of the time I just do facts. I’m trying to change that and be a bit more “open”, if you will, but often I’m just not feeling it.

My journaling is often minimal, but not always. Sometimes the stories need to be told. If it is something of a more sensitive nature, I am more likely to have hidden journaling.

it depends - there isn't always a story...sometimes it's just a pretty photo (or a fun picture of kitties). Sometimes who, where, when is sufficent. But sometimes, I'll write more and sometimes the writing is the main focus.

As Linda said, I too tell a story if it is warranted. There are some photos that need no explanation or story however! Overall, I honestly prefer my layouts that do have a story involved.

The photos tell the story because I mostly scrap events.
I'm not a great storyteller. A long time ago, I was on the school newspaper staff and some of those habits have stuck with me. Just the facts ma'm.

Almost everything is a story to me. That's just how my brain works. I don't always write one on a page (so I picked a bit of both) but a lot of the time I'm telling a story with my photos, if not actually writing words. Each photo might not be an individual story but I tend to organize my books into stories - this is what we were doing this spring, nephew loves these people or has started doing this thing, or actual stories like this is the crap that happened when we tried to go to Iceland for Christmas, which required many photos and words.

I prefer storytelling but will sometimes "just" have journaling especially if I'm spreading the event/moment/story out over multiple layouts. It's super rare for me to only have a caption beneath a photo on a page.
Stories are my first love. I just scrap to make my stories more appealing to more people.

I do both and it depends on the layout and what needs to be written down. Sometimes all the layout needs is some basic info - what, when, where, age. Other times there is a story to tell due to a memory I want remembered or something exciting or fun or new that happened.

Probably 95% of my LOs focus on storytelling. I enjoy that part of the process so it isn’t a struggle for me. I also enjoy creating creative titles.

If there is a story to be told, I will tell it. If it's just a cute photo of my kids or my dog, I'll just whack a date on the page and call it done.

I do both...PL for facts and traditional 12x12 layouts for storytelling. But those 12x12 layouts don't always have a long story. Sometimes it's a few sentences and a date, always a date. That is one of my regrets when I started scrapbooking- my 20+ year old albums don't always have the date or journalling.

A long time ago, I was on the school newspaper staff and some of those habits have stuck with me. Just the facts ma'm. Mass communications major here so I too am a just the facts person. It's so hard for me to tell stories for some reason!
