I have read a few responses where peas match the pattern paper or cardstock to the photo(s) they are working with.
Do you match paper colors to what is in the photo?

I did when I first started scrapbooking, but I do not anymore. One less thing to worry about.

When I first started scrapbooking back in 2002, I tried to match papers to the photos. But around 2009 or 2010 I stopped looking for matching papers. Sometimes what I wanted to use matched and sometimes it didn't.
For the last several years I just grab what I like and go from there.
So what do you like to do?

I sure do!
I’ve probably told this story here before, but here it goes again…
I like my photos to match my paper and I am even more match-y for themes or Holidays. One summer we were going strawberry picking so I asked my daughters, who were probably three and five at the time, to get dressed in red or green. Of course, I wanted them to match the strawberries and would use those colours for my paper choices. They happily obliged Then in December we were going to a friends to do gingerbread decorating for the holidays, and I asked them again to get dressed in red or green… They looked at me oddly and asked why they were going strawberry picking in the winter lol.
If they had been wearing orange and turquoise it would’ve thrown my design plans all off. Lol.

I remember dressing dd in a certain outfit as a baby or young toddler so I could use some paper I bought or saw that I really liked!

Usually I will either match/coordinate colours to either the theme or the photos. But not always.

I try to pick at least one color in the photos to match, but it isn't a deal breaker if the colors are different.

I prefer to use the colorway in photos to determine my choices for a layout. I don’t print photos in b&w so I like the products to compliment the photos used. It doesn’t always work out that way, but a lot of times it does.

Yes pantsonfire I often try to do that. And then you get someone wearing colors not known in nature or the laboratory and all bets are off. But I guess I find it easier if I can use something in the photo to work from.

Yes, I pretty much always match my papers to my photos. I just mentioned on another thread that if I can't find papers to match, then I either tweak the hue of the papers in Photoshop, or I make my own papers. I did this on one of my most recent beach pages. The kit I wanted to use had greeny-blues, which to me didn't look very good with the blue sky in the photo. So I used the eye dropper tool in Photoshop to select the sky, then used the Replace Colour tool to change one of the greens in the papers to the blue of the sky. Then in December we were going to a friends to do gingerbread decorating for the holidays, and I asked them again to get dressed in red or green… They looked at me oddly and asked why they were going strawberry picking in the winter lol. That's hilarious, and so very cute!

Matching is not a big priority for me so no, I don't match anything on my pages. My facing pages in my albums don't match or even coordinate most of the time, either.
I love color but I'm not super discerning about it (which is funny because my fiance is a screenprinter so he is a color expert and very aware of color in our lives) so as long as it looks okay to me, that's all that matter.

I choose paper and embellishments that will compliment my photos. Sometimes that means matching sometimes not. But I don't want them to clash.

95% of the time, yes. I find I tend to like my page better.

Some times yes, but not always. If it doesn’t match, but still looks good, or fits the mood of my photo, I’ll use it.

My papers are mostly arranged by themes, so I go for theme first.

Matching the paper with the photo is one of my favorite things to do. I usually pull 10 or more papers that I think might work and then do a color analysis - kind of like how make up artists determine what "season" you are. I stack the paper and lay the photos on top and then pull away each paper to see what "pops" from the photos. It may take a few tries, but I can usually narrow down to a few choices or figure out what color I want, and then pull from that color family and go from there.

Yes, I still do. Colors that go well with the photos just seem to make a more pleasing page to me. I don’t care if others don’t follow that rule, but I won’t be satisfied with my layout if the colors in the paper(s) don’t go well with or compliment my pictures.

I do in the sense I want the paper to work with the pictures and not clash. I rarely pick a theme paper to match my photos and would avoid a theme paper altogether of the colors didn’t work with my pictures.

I match the colors a lot of the time. I definitely put the photo against several papers until I find one that compliments it.
I have trouble using purple for that reason, although I love it. My nephews don't wear anything purple at all. So purple only shows up on selfie and friend pages.
The last scrapbook page I did my nephew was wearing a lemon print shirt. I was excited- I keep buying lemon paper for some reason but I very rarely get to use it. I rarely do that kind of matching, though. Usually I just try to have colors that complement the photo.

Match? No. But I do coordinate. In most cases I want the photo, not the paper, to be the focus. If/when the photo and papers clash it's very noticeable to me and I find it very distracting.

I start out looking for papers that fit the theme or the story I am telling. I like at least one colour in the photo(s) to be picked up by my paper(s), but don't think about it too much. But that might be by use of a complementary colour. Sometimes I don't realize I have matched something until I see the LO posted here in the Gallery.

I generally do try to match my papers to photos. I almost always mat my photos to make sure they stand out.
I bought a lot of royal blue paper last winter for my grandson's hockey album, because they have royal blue in their jerseys (sweaters in hockey slang).

Yes...and I don't know why. My scrap life would be easier if I could just stick a photo of the kid wearing a tomato red shirt, on the pink and teal scrapbook paper!
Camping layouts are usually brown or green, that one's easy.
Schools sports layouts I usually have to make up my own kit (because no one is going to make a sports line in purple and yellow...) I collect random purple papers for this reason.
Or I will try to make the layout go with what someone is wearing. No one in my house wears pink which is why I have so much unused pink paper... I've been using it on pages for my guinea pigs (they're all female) but they have neutral colored fur so it works.
My coordination issues are why I get frustrated when a theme comes out, I can use said theme! But when I go to scrap it doesn't actually work with my photos.

My mom is very much a matcher of her photos to her papers--as in exact shades of photos and paper. I am less so. I still like them to coordinate, but I am more about "mood and feel." I like it if the general theme and level of formality of the papers suits the photos more so than the specific colours, although I do pay attention to that.

I try to have the photos in my pictures complement the papers - maybe not an exact match but something that looks pleasing to the eye.
I also like to scrap with themes and the colors don't always match exactly but I can usually make it work for me.

Usually I start putting different shades of card stock next to the photo. I want my photo to pop or to compliment the people/figures in the picture. It’s quite surprising the results from trying different colors of paper.

I try but I don't agonize over it. If I want to use a particular paper, I'll make it work and still be pleasing to the eye.
