Earlier this summer, I built a rock trail going across my back yard the length of my house. (Let's be real, I put in the rock sides, my sons hauled in the rock for the floor.) Right above that path we have three Sky chairs that swing and we usually sit in them each evening since it is about 10-15 degrees cooler under the deck. My husband and I had been out with the dogs swinging and had a deer visitor and one lone turkey. Kind of a quiet evening. My husband went in to pack for a trip and I just sat on my phone. About 30 minutes later, a big ol' sweet black bear came wandering down the path. I got my phone to record and I MISSED actually making sure it was recording. Yogi was about 7 feet from my feet. He/she saw me and ambled off to my neighbor's yard. I did eventually get a photo of his butt, but I am so disappointed about the video. I did follow him to my neighbor's yard and got a quick video, but he didn't seem to want to talk. Several of my neighbors have had bears in their garages when they are in the garage. They really just see you and mosey away. I'm not at all frightened of them. (Pretty sure this will be one my tombstone.)

Come back here, varmint! You must be photographed and scrapped! 😄
What would your dogs have done? I'm afraid mine would have gone after it!

Oh no, how disappointing! At least you got a photo of a big bear butt! Also, I don't know why people always bang on about the dangerous wildlife in Australia, at least we don't have BEARS!

She has already chased two bears off our old property. One this property, we keep the girl restrained. My old guy would have barooed a warning and hustled up the stairs. They have a dog run that was custom built that is about three feet high with an iron top.

Bears are really sweet. Well, our city bears are. They are pretty comfy with people and will just mosey around checking out the place. They are more interested in trash than people. We had a momma and her three cubs years ago hang out for 10 hours in our neighbor's back yard. She gorged herself on their fallen apples and crashed in the vegetable garden as the cubs wreaked havoc. It was so adorable. The cubs were about 3 feet from me (fence between) and mom lifted and eyelid and went back to sleep. (I did get great pictures of them.) The only creature we have that I give a wide berth to is the mountain lion/puma/catamount/cougar. That cat is fierce and will cut you.

I know you are disappointed, but here in AZ a black bear just attached and killed a man while he was camping, very unusual, but can happen. So better have a butt picture than a too close one. Can't you get pictures from a video?

Can't you get pictures from a video? Yes, I did get a video and you can see when I talked to him, he turned back, and then wandered away. When he walked right past me, you could see he was just enjoying his stroll and wanted nothing to do with me. I've never met a bear out in the wild when I wasn't in a vehicle. I don't think I would want too.
