Apparently my BIL and his new GF were the intended victims of a murder for hire plot! Apparently the the guy her estranged boyfriend/husband (I'm not sure because I don't know much about her, and different articles I read indicated different things) solicited went to the cops and he got busted. Get this - he was already out on $100K bond on a charge of inappropriately touching a minor! (I've since learned he has a very long rap sheet, and he kind of scares me!) So anyway, he was going to pay the guy $5k to off BIL's GF and in a couple of articles (and from what my MIL told us) he told him he "didn't want any witnesses" so if BIL would be with her at the time, he was to kill him as well. He actually gave him times of day when people were or were not there so he could pick an optimal time to off her. She has four kids. I think two are to another guy and two are to this psycho. That's just crazy!!  |

That's crazy indeed. Glad it was discovered before there was harm. And ewwwwww, he sounds like a real creep.

Wow!!! That is crazy. Is he in jail now or did he bond out again?? His lawyer is trying to get his new bond reduced from $100k to $25k, but he broke his other bond when they filed these charges. I think he is also trying to plea down. I think he's in enough trouble that no judge is going to let him out any time soon. At least I hope. He knows where my IL's live! |

Very very scary! I'm so glad the plan was foiled. I'm from a very very small town (okay, an island...) and last year there was a HUGE bust on a murder-for-hire plot involving an extremely well known resident. Just keeping up with the story and being familiar with the people involved is completely baffling. I can't imagine having it hit so close to home with a family member. I hope BIL and his GF take proper precautions to remain safe despite the recent arrest.

You want to know what's really crazy? My BIL (my DH's brother), learned his wife had hired her drug dealer (she had a long history of on and off drug abuse) to kill him. He found out when detectives reached out the night before they planned to arrest her. The intended hit man recognized a good "get out of jail free" card when he saw one, and went directly to the police right after she first approached him.
He was wired 2 or 3 times and she was on tape setting up and confirming the "deal." The deal was some percoset tablets, $45 to purchase a gun and $5K when she got the life insurance check.
So, yeah crazy, right? She's in jail, right? Nope! After letting her sit in jail for a month, he hired a lawyer for her, went to court and begged the judge to release her on bond/bail/ROR (not sure which). And the judge DID!! She was released and went home to the man she tried to have killed and their two kids (ages 5 and 9 at the time).
2.5 months later, she pled guilty at her trial. She was given 3 years suspended sentence and 5 years probation.
They lived together another 8 or 9 years (rumor was she tried to kill him again with a rerouted dryer gas line fed into their bedroom where she was no longer sleeping).
It was front page news, all the local tv channels were reporting from their front yard. It was absolutely bizarre. Yet, at the same time, considering the people involved? Totally not surprising at all. They deserved each other.

Does anyone else find it scary that in a "community" the size of ours there's more than one "Oh, this happened to somebody I know." story? Seems like it should be a one in a billion thing, not a one in 5,000. I agree! Also, one of the awesome things about the peas is when you read stories like this, or read a news story & find a pea has a connection to it which is just one more reason why I'm glad we found a new home  It goes without saying that I'm delighted that the plan was foiled before it was carried out. |
