I went to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware a week ago and I just want to recommend it to anyone that is looking for a family friendly ocean and boardwalk experience. My mom went there when she was little, my parents first vacation was there, and I've been going off and on my whole life. This is the first time we've been back since covid. I always enjoy it so much, not just because of wonderful family memories, but also because it is such a nice town. Most of the boardwalks I've been to (Ocean City, Maryland; Ocean City, New Jersey; Atlantic City, etc.) are really seedy and this is most definitely not. It has really great restaurants and boardwalk-friendly stuff like ice cream, pop corn, and fries. Great places to shop. A Funland where the games are really easy and the kids always come home with lots of stuffed animals they have won. Lots of putt-putt golf and other activities like that. My dad didn't go this year because he has trouble walking, even though we told him we could drive him places. My dad is also convinced that Rehoboth must be messed up now because Joe Biden has a place there. He has had a place there forever but my dad: "it's different now that he is president". Thanks Fox News. The other thing really unique about Rehoboth is that it is a destination spot for the LBGTQ+ community. Lots of gay bars and restaurants, drag shows, etc. I love the diversity of the people vacationing there. The only downside I know of is the ocean is cold! I just like to lie on the beach and don't go into the water past my knees so it works for me. So if you are looking for a nice place to rent a house for a week with your family, definitely consider going there. Just don't rent the house we want.

The Dogfish Head Beer (and spirits) originated there, and we love to go to the restaurant there, even though we go to the local one here at least once a month. There is an excellent British Fish & Chips place just off the boardwalk called Go Fish! that we also enjoy.

Love Rehobeth. It used to be a lot quieter, and her sister beach, Bethany, but now has gotten really popular.
I don't think the water is as cold as where we used to vacation when I was a kid (new hampshire! LOL NOW that was cold) but I assume if you are used to more southern waters, it is cooler.

We love that area. We always drove down the highway to the state land where the beach wasn’t as crowded, but loved Rehoboth for dinner and walking around. We loved Grotto Pizza, Dogfish Head, and the place with like 87 ice cream flavors.

We've done several beach vacations in Rohoboth, and surrounding areas Bethany and Fenwick Island. I agree with artbabe on everything. The only thing I can say about the water temperature being cold is that we just got back from a Maine beach trip-- now THAT is cold water.

The Dogfish Head Beer (and spirits) originated there, and we love to go to the restaurant there I love Dogfish Head. We first went there many many years ago because Delaware had weird liquor laws (they have since changed) and the only place we could buy carryout beer on Sunday was in a growler at Dogfish Head. That is when they had their old restaurant. I really miss that one- it had excellent Rockfish. This year we went to the newer restaurant and there was an hour wait! Ugh. The kids love the food there, though, and they have this new product that is more like a crush in a can. They are delicious. I always like 60 Minute IPA, too. We also went to Fisher's popcorn (love the caramel Old Bay flavor), Kohr's (orange vanilla twist cones), Grotto's pizza, Obie's by the Sea (frozen pina coladas), Dos Locos (crab quesadillas absolutely stuffed with blue crab), and a lot of other places that the kids demand that we go year after year.

Rehoboth is so much fun, we've been going for a few years since the lgbtq+/drag scene amplified. It's one of my fav long weekends each year.
Does anyone have a rental they love?

It is such a nice town! We have a place in Ocean City but it is far from the boardwalk (we can walk to Fenwick Island, DE). The only negative to Rehoboth is the parking, lol.

So weird, I had never heard of this place and I am reading a book called Still Life in Blood that I started a few days ago. It is a brutal murder mystery but really well written. AND the characters are drinking Doghead Fish Beer!
ETA: I'm such a dork, I meant to say it is set in Rehoboth, DE. The characters are going to places and beaches in the town AND they're drinking that beer. Sorry to hijack, my response sounded like it had nothing to do the Rehoboth. facepalm haha

I just finished a World Wide Stout (by Dogfish Head). It is one of my favorite beers ever. It is always a limited edition beer, hard to come by, and is $$$. My husband prefers their IPA’s. Our local Dogfish Head restaurant opened 15 years ago and we have been regulars since opening week. We love Fisher’s popcorn too. Oh, and Dolle’s saltwater taffy. I’ve always loved saltwater taffy and it is such a treat. ❤️

I visited Rehoboth several times and that is where I found King Tut Fudge at the Candy Kitchen! I hadn't thought about that in years!

My husband's aunt lived in Dover, so my husband has gone practically every summer.
We've gone to Fenwick Island for my crab cakes and Thrasher's Rehoboth for my husband's french fries. Have your cholesterol blood work done before these guilty pleasures. LOL.
Also, check if any car shows are booked during your weekend. One year we lucked out during the Mustang's 50 anniversary.

GAH! I *love* reading about everyones' experiences there!!! Rehoboth and Dewey beach are my family's and my "Happy Place." (I started one or two threads about it here before). We've been going since we were toddlers. Eventually, we all moved away from DC, but we'd still go every few years . Our last visit there was 2009, with some of my family, and it was SO FUN to have DH experience it for the first time. My family and I were *hoping* to go again in September, so I've been reading about all the places we want to go, the removal of the iconic DOLLE's sign, etc. Thanks to this thread, I was adding more / new-to-us places to visit. I won't actually be able to join them, but HOPING next year! In the meantime, I miss it sooo much, I've been watching youtube vids of people visiting. There's a cute couple I love to watch---they mostly just eat alllllll the treats on Rehoboth boardwalk, and I just live vicariously through them. I cannot express in words HOW MUCH I want Grotto Pizza !!!!!!! I even emailed them and asked if they'd be willing to send me some on dry ice, but they've never responded. I'd be willing to pay an exorbitant price, too!

Did anyone go this summer? Tell me all about it ! I miss Rehoboth/Dewey soooo badly, but I can't travel at the moment. Hopefully, someday! My siblings went last year to sprinkle some of our Dad's ashes there. I wanted to join them soooo badly, but just couldn't. (When our brother died in 2009, we all went and spread his ashes at Dewey, too.) That explains how SPECIAL this place is/was to us!

We prefer South Bethany because there's nothing there but houses and beach. When we had a dog we always tried to get a house on the southern end so we could walk her onto the Fenwick beach which allows dogs since it's a state park. I should add that we always drive up to Rehoboth at least once while we're at Bethany. Also to Assateague. Those are our two excursions away from Bethany. lol

Coincidentally, my brother & his family will be coming home from Rehoboth in about an hour or so after having been there a week. The only difference is that we grew up visiting New England waters, so we think it's practically balmy when any of us visit Delaware beaches!

Well, I started this thread so it is pretty obvious I love it.
My sister and I went at the end of June and we had the 3 boys (15, 19, 21) with us. It was great to have them all in one place- I don't know how long we can do that before the 21 year old becomes too busy to go.
It is so special to me. I just love it. I always recommend going there. Such a great, safe family place and very LGBTQ friendly.

One of our favourites! We go for a week every summer with a huge group of family and mutual friends. We almost always book a whole floor of the Atlantic Sands. It's not the fanciest but it's cool for a beach vacation.
We always get lobster rolls at Mason's, fries at Thrashers, orange twist frozen custard cones at Kohr Bros, steampots at Obies and all kinds of awesome Mexican at Mariachi's. Not to mention huge buckets of pick your own salt water taffy at Dolle's. We always have our last dinner of vacation at Henlopen Oyster House.❤
We get a new ornament at the Christmas shop every year. Our first day there we walk down to Browseabout Books and buy a bunch of beach reads. We enjoy a lemonade from Archie's and then see what's new in Pennylane. This year we got French macarons from the new macaron place (le macaron,we tried them in Nashville previously).
We find the water relaxing. Neither cold nor hot, refreshing when you get in. The beaches aren't overcrowded and they're clean.
We ❤ Rehoboth Beach!
