Since it is an outside barn/country theme, I would choose the second choice of the dark skirt. I'm a disaster with light and white colored clothing, so being outside in a county atmosphere, I would for sure have the first outfit covered in whatever in a very short amount of time. The dark skirt looks more country to me.

I think they're fine - personally I prefer the top one and don't think a white top is any kind of issue. If you want something new shop, if you prefer to wear one of these go for it.

I like the second skirt but it seems too autumn/winter to me for a summer reception. I personally love the opportunity to shop for an event, but the first outfit is fine if you don’t want to do that.

I think you could probably go with something already in your closet since very casual is the dress code.

Personally, the second one is too fallish looking for a July outdoor wedding. I'd either wear the first outfit or go shopping. How hot will the weather be at the wedding location?

I would not wear black for a summer day time event.
Therefore I would pick the first option.
ETA - if it were me, I’d shop for a summer dress. But since you hate shopping I’d just wear the first outfit.

I think we women overthink these social events...and I am guilty, I am not casting stones.
Other than 1 woman (for a specific reason), I cannot tell you what one guest has worn to any wedding I have attended in my life.
The one I remember: the guest wore her wedding gown to the wedding of her cousin. That guest shocked all of us and here it is 40+ years later and I am still shocked. Do I need to say the guest who did this is/was mentally challenged?

I think the first outfit would look nice and definitely be appropriate; and agree that the second one, while appropriate for an outdoor country wedding, looks like a fall outfit. Just make sure your shoes are stable and a heel wont pierce the ground.

The link for the 2nd one did not work for me. I think the first one looks awfully light. You might not be mistook for the bride but that skirt looks Mother of the Bride to me. I'd go with the 2nd.

I like the first option. The 2nd is too “dark” for a summer wedding to me.
If it’s going to be hot, you way be really warm in darker colors.
Ask others who will be at the reception what they are planning to wear and judge your options accordingly.
My family is very casual. I went to a graveside service this week and many were wearing shorts and flip flops- my family wore dark dresses/slacks. I have a church funeral this coming week and will wear the same as I wore graveside. Different sides of the family so no repeats and I’d wear it anyway because I hate shopping and my dress works.

I’m surprised at the pea responses so far.
I think the first outfit is way too light and I wouldn’t wear a white top to a wedding reception, especially with such a light skirt. It’s a cute outfit, but too light for a wedding reception.
The second skirt is cute too but does look more fall than summer. However, if I had to pick, I would for sure wear the darker colored outfit. You can totally get away with it and not have to go shopping if you don’t want to.

Jeans would be fine, she asked for opinions I gave mine. Goodness. I wouldn't consider jeans as nicer than a skirt and top. There were and still is places of employment have "dress down" days where the employees can wear jeans to work. |

I actually own this dress, but in a different pattern and I do like it very much. But I also find the fabric makes me warm (and I already run warm) so I'm not sure if wearing it to an outdoor event in July will work. But I will throw it in the mix if the temperatures are not as hot as I expect. |
