Because my search skills on this board are worse than horrible.....
What happened with the mom, a Pea, whose daughter needed a passport for travel?
They just had on the news again that it is taking 4 months. A couple had a European trip planned and had to cancel as they didn't have their passports. They are out about $10,000. I can't even imagine ever taking a trip that costs that much let alone losing that much.
Oh and they applied for their pp 3 months ago.

With tickets already purchased, they could have gone to their nearest passport office (which may have meant traveling hours, but with $10k at stake, seems worth it) and have gotten them expedited and issued at the last minute in person. I believe it costs extra, on top of the regular fee, and the expedited fee they probably already paid, but still…
That really stinks.

Maybe my story is different as it was a renewal but mine took 8 weeks. I think I started the process in March.

I've heard that the back-up is so bad right now, that even expedited passports can take weeks.

We just renewed ours and received them last week. We paid for expedited and two-day return mail. We got them six weeks to the day from when we mailed them in.

The in-person appointments, when you’re less than 14 days from travel, and your passport (expedited or not) is still not ready, are still a thing. You can get the passport same day or next day. However, for non-emergency travel, there aren’t guaranteed appointments available and there are a limited number of passport agency offices. The Midwest and west coast have very few and they are very far apart.

USPS never updated the tracking either. So my tracking always said never received by the passport office in Philadelphia.
