I thought it was time to revisit the trend thread. Some of us have never recovered from the mustache era.
This came into my head yesterday while I was making a layout and realized I needed a geotag. So I had to dig deep in my stash to find one and at one point they were all over the place. I ended up using wood ones, another trend that has come and basically gone.
So what have you been noticing lately? One thing I seem to be seeing a lot of is Kitchen Aid mixers.

Yes, rainbows. And weird ones at that.

Roller skates or a single skate. I think there are four lines out the moment with this icon.

Roller skates or a single skate. I think there are four lines out the moment at the moment with this icon. That is definitely a hard one to use. I think it is in the Jen Hadfield Flower Child line I bought. I can't see me using that sticker. And yes, wonky rainbows are still going strong. This one is a bit easier to use but how many rainbow layouts does one really need?

I've been seeing one bigger photo with smaller photos. A 5 x 7, with a few wallet-ish size surrounding it, along side it, etc...

IMHO the trend for 2023 is florals (as discussed here). They are blooming throughout the industry from entire collections devoted to florals, multiple floral patterns & a floral-specific ephemera pack per collection regardless its theme or brand, flower-adorned icons (e.g. stand mixers, ghosts), & more!

I agree with PaperAngel - Flowers are everywhere. I generally like and use flowers, but I prefer them to be stand alone, not held by random animals or in a bicycle basket, or surrounding a pumpkin, for example.

Mushrooms - I've seen them on 49th & Market's paper line (and maybe some others...) and also on several stamps & cardmaking supplies.

I’m enjoying the roller skates fad. DW started roller skating last year (in her 50s) and is loving it. I have a handful of photos to scrapbook so I’ve picked up a couple different styles of stickers to use from P13 and Simple Stories.

Postage stamps is a hot theme right now, especially in card making.

Adding some other thing I've noticed: Squirrels are making a comeback (much to my delight). Lilac is really having its day (again, much to my delight). Pagan folklore is also peaking in scrapbooking right now with fairies and gnomes (still). It's having success alongside the rise of the forest theme (including the mushrooms that mbanda pointed out). I'm getting some serious Elsa Beskow vibes from some collections. ETA: Stitched elements. Stitched design dies are proliferating across several cardmaking brands. Pinkfresh and Paige Evans are continuing the push for stitching on pages/in mini albums.

Lots of stitching, both real and faux. Backgrounds that look quilted in squares or rays. Boho everything, as scrappyrabbit said. Pink is still here, but more of a peachy shade. Grid style LO's. Smaller canvas--more people going to sizes like 6x8 and TN's. Layered stencils

This has been a fun thread to read artbabe. I've enjoyed everyone's responses and it has brought me up-to-date on some of the newer things going on. I'm not much of a "trend recognizer" but you all have made me say "oh yeah I've seen that" to lots of the above. I have noticed that tigers seem to be making an appearance in a few lines. Not opposed to this but it does seem sort of random. It would be nice if some of the purchase price went to a wildlife preservation fund. And those layered stencils are amazing! I don't have any as I haven't even mastered the single layer stencils that I have.
