I visited a small LSS in Michigan last week while on vacation. She carried an eclectic mix of brands and lots of Michigan products. The prices were within reason — until i checked out. She wanted to charge me 75 cents for a piece of light chipboard that comes at the bottom of a paper stack! I was not pleased. I spent about $60 to support the store and i felt $0.75 for something she gets for free was extreme. I’ll be returning to that area again but I wont be shopping there.

The chipboard that is attached to the paper pad? Or a loose one? I remember paying .50 for chipboard back in the day at a LSS. They had extra and you could buy them to keep the paper you bought protected. If it was loose you could have delined.
If it was part of the paper pad I would have raised my concern that it is included in the product cost. And either not paid the .75 or remove it.

The LSS I worked for sold chipboard for $1-$2 depending on the thickness. They were 12x12 sheets and the thinner was a dollar and thicker was $2. 75¢ seems reasonable to me unless the chipboard was bent or still had the adhesive on the top where it attached to the paper pad.

It was just the chipboard that comes when you purchase a 25 pack of paper. Never been asked to pay. I guess that’s how small stores make money. Paying $1-$2 a sheet for paper is enough of an investment. Everyone has a line and that crossed mine.

I get selling chipboard. But when it is just part of the packaging of the item she (LSS) actually paid for. That is just ridiculous. It’s not like you came in just to get chipboard. Or just a couple of items and free chipboard.

It was just the chipboard that comes when you purchase a 25 pack of paper. Ah, we would give that stuff away (because it was super thin). The chipboard we sold came in packs of 12 and it seemed most people bought it for covers for albums they would make with their Zutter or Cinch.

i would have given it to you for free considering how much you spent.
years ago, i used to buy chipboard by the piece. as the prices rose and my needs increased, i just went to a paper company and had 200 12x12 sheets custom cut. i'm still picking from my stash to this day.

Did you ask her why she was charging you for it? I would have been peeved too, and would not have paid for it. Take it out of my bag, please.

It was at the bottom of a stackf (previously 25 pack) of paper? I guess I would not have taken it. I know stores us it to keep the paper from getting smooshed.

That would have irritated me too. I’d have asked if I could take off the chipboard and jusy buy the paper.

Was the chipboard on the shelves under a stack of paper ? Did you ask if you could have the chipboard? Even if other stores have given it to you for free in the past, I don't think I would expect a store to give it away. I'm not certain that every company sends chipboard with their paper. I've seen paper come in to my lss and the 25 sheets are in a shrink wrapped package, no chipboard. With inflation and all of the shipping changes lately, I wouldn't be surprised if manufacturers stopped shipping chipboard with paper. Does the store have an online store? I know some companies like ACOT use chipboard to ship orders.
I understand about having a line. Personally, this isn't something that would bother me. If I didn't want to pay for the chipboard,I would just say no thank you. There are so few brick and mortar stores left, I'm happy to support the ones still around.

If it was at the bottom of a stack of paper on a rack, I wouldn't have taken it. I feel that that belongs to the store for display purposes. On the other hand, if I were the store owner, I wouldn't have charged you for it either since you'd made a large purchase.

I wouldn’t have made you pay for that as an owner either. but I also wouldn’t let .75 stop me from shopping there in the future.
