…what style would they be?
The world is my oyster right now after significant weight loss. I’m 5’3” and small, and have not been keeping up (specifically) with jeans styles. I look online and get overwhelmed. I can say, on my small frame unfortunately the the wide leg trend can easily overwhelm me.
Anyhow, what’s in? What’s a style you found works for you? Something you tried that surprised you once you had them on? Thanks!

Boot cut or baby boot. I never even got behind skinny jeans. They made me look like a one-sided q-tip. Boot cut elongates my short legs and short waist

I would ideally find a pair of straight ankle jeans. I have been searching for a few years and can’t find any that fit the way I want them to. Otherwise I still like skinny jeans. Not super tight at the ankles but close to the body. Boot cut still looks country or dated to me most of the time. Especially if you aren’t going to wear heels. ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230721/2a286b51f22f59d71cd4292b01c48d76.jpg)

My last pair of jeans purchased are high waisted, wide leg, and cropped. They are a medium wash with a raw hem. I love them.

Both straight ankle, one in a faded wash without holes, another in a dark wash. Because I’m short and have well shaped legs, the wide leg pant trend makes me look heavier than I am and hides one of my best features. I’d do a boot cut but I don’t want to venture into platforms—I don’t like feeling unsteady on my feet and I only have low heeled boots.

I just got a pair of straight leg jeans from Madewell at Nordstrom Rack that are my most favorite jeans I’ve ever owned. They are called the perfect vintage ripped high waisted jeans. There’s a rip on one knee but they had others in a similar silhouette without rips but they had an exposed button fly that I didn’t love.

My favorite jeans are a pair of skinny jeans and a pair of straight leg. I skip over the boot cut a lot.

As I last wore jeans at least 6 months ago I’m no help on that front. But I wanted to congratulate you on your weight loss!

I have every fit known to man, but the two I’m reaching for consistently right now are a straight leg and a cropped, high-waisted wide leg. (I know you said wide leg isn’t good on you, but I think the cropped is key to it not overwhelming.)

My favorites are Madewell straight, ankle length and a skinny pair that I wear with oversized shirts. I always like a little stretch mixed in so they don’t start snug and then stretch out.

High waist, slim straight and not pull on. Very hard to find. And I need a complete new wardrobe of jeans also because of weight loss (unintentional).

No doubt the wide leg is "in" - but I'm a firm believer in jeans to wear what complements you. I have a pair of boyfriend jeans and a slight boot leg which are as close to on trend as I'll get. Go and try a bunch on and find something that makes you feel great!

I'm losing weight and have gone down 2 sizes quickly.. I just bought some from Penny's (Ana brand I think) boyfriend cut, cuffed at the bottom, little torn but not excessive. It was great not to buy in the plus size department which at my Penny's suck. They used to be good now it is like a sea of Alfred Dunner old ladies stuff.

Ugh, I’m the opposite with weight gain (thanks peri menopause). My new jeans are a relaxed straight cut and boyfriend jeans. I’m shortish (5’4) so cropped don’t look right on me as they don’t hit in the right place.

I think when I last lost weight, I went with relaxed straight because no amount of weightloss is going to make my hips and thighs go away.

I like skinny jeans and straight jeans. I hate high waisted jeans. I don’t care what the current trends are, I’ll stick to what looks best on me.

I've been loving my straight leg Levis. I did skinny for a while but I find the straight leg more flattering.

Congratulations on your weight loss!! It's something I'e wanted to do for a long time, need to do, but haven't managed. No help on the jeans, but i'm guessing you'll look cute in anything.

I always have to have skinny jeans. I have a small frame and they just look best on me. I’ve been wearing a pair of Joes for a long time. Pretty basic with a frayed hem and mid rise. I would also get a pair of higher rise with a slightly cropped wide leg.
I have a pair with the exposed button fly that is really cute with cropped tops

I’m 5’3” and I think I look best in a mid rise skinny Jean. (A clerk at Nordstrom told me a couple of weeks ago that half the jeans she sells are skinny jeans, so I think they are going to be around for awhile). If I were buying two pairs of jeans, I’d buy a white skinny jean and a dark wash skinny jean.

I’m 5’9” and all legs. My two pairs would be skinny, and straight leg high waisted. I’m sure that because of my body build people would say I should wear the wide legged pants. But I haven’t tried them on yet, and I feel like my shoes are all wrong for them….and I hate shoe shopping because I wear an 11 narrow and it seems nothing ever fits 😏

I would invest in:
1. Light wash ankle jeans with a raw hem. Straight with a narrower leg. Like the Levi’s Wedgie Icon Fit.
2. Medium-dark skinny jeans, not destroyed. Raw hem ok. This will work well to tuck into boots for winter.

Thanks for everyone’s input. It really sounds like pretty much anything goes these days. Which is good, but bad in that I really think I’m going to have to grab a friend and go shopping in store(s). Ugh! 😉

I'm also 5'3" and quite small, although my cancer meds have made me put a bit of weight on recently. When I was under 130lbs, my go-to jeans were always bootcut or straight leg. I tried skinnies but I just didn't feel right in them. As you say, wide legs and flares just drown you. Once I'm over the surgery and my weight stabilises a bit, I'm going jeans shopping too, and I'll be getting bootcuts or straight legs again.
