In my local Buy Nothing group we have some bins of specific items that are passed around in a round robin format - when it's your turn to have the bin you can take whatever you like from it and add in some of your own things, then you pass it to the next person. I recently received a surprise gift of stamps and dies from someone's declutter, some cool ones but others I will never use, and wondered if it could be the start of a stamping Pea round robin. I have already added some things from my own destash pile that I was planning to offer as a RAK. My friend sent me so much stuff in a padded priority mail envelope from the opposite side of the country and it was only about $11 postage, so I'm thinking the same mailer would work to send between each member. She used this free padded envelope you can order from USPS and have delivered to your house, so that would be easy and also places a limit on how big the stash can get. Everyone would know how much it would cost in advance because it's flat rate, and we'd just paypal the person ahead of us for the shipping when they were ready to send it on. I can double check the current shipping rate if there are enough people interested. At some point the stash might get too small or interest peters out, at which point the last person could donate, RAK, or keep what's left. What do you guys think? Would you be interested in creating a group? Any problems you can see with the plan?

I like the idea in theory. I know in the past (long ago) Round Robin type boxes both for scrapbooking and on a sewing forum I was on tended to run into issues - someone was slow to ship forward, someone(s) contributions weren't on par with what they took, the box got lost... there did often seem to be some drama. Not saying that would happen here but something to be aware of

I think I remember people doing this on the message board I was on prior to Two Peas. I don’t think I did it, but I think I’d be interested.
I keep missing the local scrapbooking garage sales because the dates don’t work for me, so I do have things I could add.

I was in a forum long ago that did this with beauty products. Papercrafting should work much better as most of the items are lighter, more compact, and less fragile than bottles of liquid and compacts of pressed powders and things.
The issues were similar to those mentioned above with some late shipments and some product quality disparities, but there were also some issues of things that just never found takers -- I think we all agreed to some occasional "purges" of The Box (as it was known).
In my local area, there were a handful of us who participated, so it was shipped to one of us and we had a little get-together when it arrived -- that was fun!

Not saying that would happen here but something to be aware of I think we would all have to go into it knowing that it's not necessarily going to be "fair" and that you might pay $10 for shipping and only find one or two things that suit your style. Hopefully no one would take almost everything and not add back their own contributions, but I guess that might happen - someone pays to get it next and finds it's only 3 stamp sets. That would not be good... As long as the next person pays you to ship it onwards you haven't actually lost any money even if you don't find much, as long as the package isn't completely plundered and unable to be sent on. Only the last person would pay shipping without receiving shipping cost from the next person, and that might be because they decide they want it all or no one else wants a turn or the stuff inside the box ends up unpopular. I would be willing to pay for the final round and dispose of the stuff if it came to that. I'm not really imagining something that will go on forever, maybe only one or two rounds. Thinking it through aloud here... Please tell me if I'm being naive! Hopefully if it's just a handful of us we'd all agree to respect each other and not put trash in for the next person.

I might be interested. I love surprise boxes. I did this on a previous message board and unfortunately, it was a bust in that many felt the box (we did flat rate priority boxes) was just full of old paper and not very good stuff. Somehow, I feel like we're a more sophisticated bunch here.

I think it would be fun. My only question is - Why are we paying the person in front of us for shipping? Wouldn't it be easier to just pay to ship when it is your turn to ship? There seems no reason to be sending money around. But, maybe I don't understand?

The last time I was involved in something like this, that's what we did. You received it for free, but paid to send it.
I guess I can see that you might be more motivated to pay to get it and more motivated to get it out when someone has already paid you to do so, but it doesn't seem like that motivation should be necessary.

Good points. I'm not sure why I was thinking of it the other way around - maybe because it's easy to create a shipping label after someone sends you money through PayPal and for motivation to keep things going... but it probably doesn't make much difference in the motivation. And now that I think of it the PayPal shipping label thing only works if you choose paying for goods which also means paying a fee, so that doesn't help at all. It looks like we have a small group interested so I guess we can give it a go. I'll create a group PM sometime in the next week and we can sort out the details.

I would love to do this too.
I have paper pumpkin boxes that I can fit in a priority mail flat rate envelope. Its a good way to protect goods and its somewhat cheap too. $7.60 on pirate ship.

Not sure if anyone wants to send to me in Canada, but I would like to play, I think. Not sure how this will work, but I guess you will be laying out all the "rules' in your group pM, joblackford. Would we all send at once? To one person, or to each member of the group? Or would you receive a package and then send to the next person in the circle?

I have been keeping an eye on this thread and would be open to trying it out. I've done this in the past on other boards and always found a little something I could use.

I'm sorry to exclude you but I think someone would have to set up a Canada specific group. The mailing envelope I was planning on using is US only and it's $10 for flat rate. The pile of stuff I have to mail out would cost about $45 to ship to Canada in a standard mailer according to the USPS. Even if the parcel got much smaller I don't know if anyone would want to pay for Canadian shipping, or what the threshold would be for you to pay someone to mail it to you.

I would also like to be included. I feel like every time I place a SB.com order I end up with free supplies I think I would use but then don’t. ☺️
