I wasn't really sure how to state this in the title. I bought a ton of Disney World paper once. It was Simple Stories "Say Cheese" collection, the one that had separate lines for each park. I was supposed to go to Disney World the year covid hit and I don't see my going back anytime soon, unfortunately. So I have loads of cute paper with no use at the moment. I was really proud of myself that I pulled out the Adventureland collection to do a layout on tiki mini golf, and another layout with a pirate. Yay! I'm using up the stuff even without going to Disney. I've also done a couple layouts (Otherworld and Tetris) with a Doodlebug Halloween collection. I love the colors and patterns of the papers so much that I'm going to buy more of it for future layouts. So much for using up my stash. Have you used themed products for a page that isn't exactly that theme?

Oh yeah! I used a winter snowflake paper (pale blue with white dot snowflakes) on a pocket page, Halloween papers and embellishments for a coffee shop that is horror movie themed, Halloween star paper for a pocket page for the Astronomers Club we got to hang out with, and I am sure there are more.

Good for you!
I have used themed paper for non-themed layouts - often but not always B-sides. I recently ended up with a Basic Grey Oh Baby Boy collection that I've used on a couple of layouts already - none of them for babies. I used a Halloween striped paper on a butterfly layout earlier this year.

I was just thinking about this over the weekend when I was working on my mini travel album. I used plane embellishments (usually meant for air travel) for a page when we visited the air and space museum. I also had old paper from a little boy line that had paper airplanes that worked really well.

I enjoy using my themed supplies for completely random things. Most recently, I used Sparkle City (a travel/living in the city line) to document a hurricane. It had darker, stormy colors and umbrellas, so I went with it. It is always fun to stretch the stash that way.

It is always fun to stretch the stash that way. I love that line! It is one of my favorite Shimelle lines. I haven't used the umbrella paper yet but that would be perfect. I thought of other things I use outside of their intended purpose. I buy black cat paper and embellishments from Halloween lines because I have a black cat. I pick through the die cut packs and pull out all of the cats and cat paper and store them with my pet lines. Most specific cat lines are cutesy and my cat is not cutesy. Halloween cats are less cutesy, usually. I also pull out the bat things because I love bats and every time I go to the zoo I take photos. So bat stuff stays with my zoo lines. I also bought some of that (I think Echo Park?) religious story line, even though I'm not religious, because it had really nice animal paper (Noah's Ark, Daniel in the lion's den, etc.) So it is stored with my zoo stuff.

Much like Linda I tend to pull from my themed collections for a b-side or a more basic print. I just pulled a paper from an Echo Park coffee line that was the perfect shade of light blue to go with an unrelated layout that I was doing of my neice. I tend to group things together by theme, so this thread is a good reminder to think outside the box and use what works. I often use hiking/camping paper for photos of my dad...he's outside a lot and the papers tend to go with the overall colour palette of his wardrobe.

I overbought on the baby collections. For a lot of the paper there is a generic B side I can use for other scrapbooking topics.
I am in the stage now that my nieces keep having babies so I've been trying to use up some of the paper/stickers/diecuts on cards, baby shower gift wrapping/tags.

I am in the stage now that my nieces keep having babies so I've been trying to use up some of the paper/stickers/diecuts on cards, baby shower gift wrapping/tags. I’ve used baby stuff on dog layouts. Also if the baby stuff has an “adventure” theme, I’ve used it on hiking layouts! Like others have said, I’ve often used b-sides of themed papers for unrelated layouts. I keep my collections stored by theme, but I have a small enough stash that I can usually remember what’s in each theme and the color palettes that they have. If I’m needing inspiration or just another sheet of general paper, I will flip through my collections looking at the b-sides. But sometimes I don’t want to sacrifice the a-side, so there can be an internal dilemma!

I'm not a theme scrapper, so I don't use theme products for their intended purpose. Over the years, I've found the color palettes of many dog, Independence Day, outdoor, Halloween, winter, & St. Patrick's Day, plus certain fall & Christmas, themed collections work well for documenting our (now college-aged) son's activities, etc. (e.g. using Halloween collections with orange/teal/purple plaids/stripes/dots for Hornets game pages). Plus, the asterisks patterned papers/embellishments/tools marketed as simple snowflakes in Christmas & winter themed collections can be used on layouts about any subject; fireworks found in every July 4th & Disney collection can be used for layouts about any type of celebration/milestone - birthday, engagement/wedding, pregnancy, anniversary, holidays, prom, graduation, college acceptances, etc; bats/spiders/webs appearing in all Halloween collections can be used on superhero birthday party, movie, etc. layouts; & so many more possibilities!

Most of what I buy is themed, so I use it for whatever I am scrapping, whether it fits that particular theme or not, as long as the colours work for the photos. Evergreen trees are a wonderful backdrop for camping or lake pages, but also work for Christmas. Those Disney papers have fun bright colours I love. And the sentiments work well with different stories, too.
I think the most contrast in theme of paper to that of page was when I scrapped my son's love of the Cincinati Bengals, using BoBunny Zoo tiger paper.

I am not a scrapper, however, I am a Club Scrap customer (for card making). Their kits, which could in many ways be considered collections as much as kits, are at least kind of themed, sometimes very themed. They regularly have blog posts titled something along the lines of "X collection: not just for Y kinds of layouts." Even if you don't buy their papers/kits, I imagine that cruising through those posts could yield general ideas for ways to use collections outside of their theme.

I’ve used baby stuff on dog layouts. Me too. Easter stuff too. One of my dogs was my bunny. And we call my other dog the black cat, so she gets cat stuff.

I do this too. I don't buy a lot of themed supplies intending to use the theme, I mostly shop for the b-sides. There are exceptions of course, mostly travel and Christmas, but I'm very much in the camp of it the paper will work then I'll use it irrespective of what it was designed for.
