I imagine I'm not the only one who saw this: link. Is anyone considering this? It seems like an interesting way to connect with folks local enough to maybe someday meet in person. I have my local SU demo, who also does other crafting classes, but I can't really bring a lot of non-SU paper crafting to her get-togethers. It would be great to meet more local cardmakers. They are asking that TE products be used, but basically "at least one" and "it could be simply ink" are what they're saying on FB.

Nice idea, especially since I don't know any cardmakers in the area. I don't have much TE stuff, not even ink. I'm not interested in exchanging cards with people, I want to meet people.

Well, you have to start somewhere, right? I don't know what they mean by grouping you with folks "in your area" but I imagine that sending cards regionally could easily lead to in-person interactions.
I have one TE set from C&CD in March (one of the classes I didn't finish) and about 4 ink cubes. They do have some stencils I've been eying. If I do sign up, I guess I'll use that as an excuse to get some.

I saw it but I don't know. I'd rather send my cards to the Peas!

Don't get me wrong -- I also love sending cards to the Peas.
It sounds like these would be much smaller groups who would decide among themselves how often to send cards and things of that nature.
I also imagine that once you got to know one another a bit, the groups would be unlikely to police the TE requirements. And it's not like TE would demand a card sent to HQ to check up on everyone. I don't think.

It would be interesting to see how "local" the group really is. I find I like to craft when I want to, not with a sort of deadline. And if you are in a group, exchanging cards, you kind of have a deadline. Hope it works out to be what you want both want.

I like the idea of connecting with cardmakers in your area, but I really like the quarterly card exchanges we do on this board. And there's usually about a group of 25ish Peas who participate. No need to join another group for me.
Also, I like how there aren't all these rules imposed on us when we exchange cards. Just send some type of card to a Pea, lol.
But if you all sign up, please let us know how it goes!

So, you just send cards to others in your area? You don’t actually meet to craft?
I have plenty of people that I can send cards to. Before COVID, I invited gals from church to come to my home to make cards once a month at no charge (I have more supplies than I will ever use, and it didn’t even begin to make a dent in my stash. It was fun to get together). I had taught at the LSS back near DC before they closed, and before we moved halfway across the country. I had a hard time finding anyone to craft with after I moved. Having gals from church was a good way for me to connect with others in my area. Now I know at least a few people in my neighborhood, and I am thinking of doing something like that again, although designing the cards took me so much time that I was thinking of quitting, even before COVID put an end to it. I felt like I had to keep teaching them new techniques, and it took more time than I thought it should.
I think it would be more fun to just get together with other card makers to make the cards, then donate the cards. At least you’d get some social interaction and hopefully make new friends.
I do have some TE stamps, but they are really, really old. I’m sure they are hoping and expecting that as crafters make, send, and receive cards, that it will also boost sales for them. If I get a cute hand made card, I am likely to want to know where they got the stamps or other elements used to make it. It’s a smart marketing strategy, and I like that it can connect you to other card makers in your area.
Let us know how it goes, and if you enjoy it.

I would imagine the goal of most is to find your *people* and go from there. I signed up the other day as I'm interested in seeing where this goes. ETA: I am part of a local group of card-making women. The group was created after the spring C+CD. Members of the group have been getting together once or twice a month since then. Up until the spring event I'd only been cardmaking on my own, so I am thrilled to have locals to meet, craft, and "talk shop" with, and hope this TE group adds even more card makers to my list of friends.

Yeah, the info about the program talked about trying to foster community for isolated crafters, so it sure sounds to me like they're kind of hoping people take it further.
And I bought the hexagon CiQ set on the BST FB group, but I've had my eye on that one for a while.

My hope is to be connected with people local enough and soon enough to be able to suggest a meet up at the CK expo at the end of September in New Hampshire. That seems like a good next step on the path to having local crafty friends to get together with to craft.

You guys!! I got my group email from TE today! There are five of us altogether, so perfect for making a quad of cards! And all in Massachusetts or New Hampshire, so my idea of meeting up at the Expo in NH next month is not at all out of the question! And if not then, certainly close enough to eventually have some F2F now and then.
EtA: I just looked more carefully, and the two people in my state are each a couple towns away from me! I hope the two in NH are equally close to each other, though I'm not sure.

They have had a few get togethers already. I have not been able to join them yet as I’m really busy this time of the year. Monday I got back from a five day out of state camping trip (music festival), I’m working all week and weekend and then I’m gone Tuesday through Sunday for a dog show. But I do hope they will understand and not write me off before I can join them!

Got my list as well. There are 7 of us, all within probably 15 miles of each other. Right now we’re trying to plan a time to FT or Zoom together this weekend to meet each other. gmcwife1, the girl who started the local FB group and I were talking about the group just the other day. She doesn’t plan on removing people until the group is at least a year old, so you’ve got plenty of time to make it to a get together. It is a terrific group of women. Kind, considerate, creative, fun and funny, and not a single negative.

So, my group has exchanged our "hello" cards and had our first birthday.
I was supposed to go to CKC this past weekend, but my schedule just got too full. I was disappointed because another group member was attending and we were going to try to meet. Plus I'd signed up for a couple of classes one of which used a CM punch board, so I wasn't going to get that.
I ended up emailing my tickets to my TE "pen pal" if you will. She picked up my items for me and we met for dinner last night! Had a lovely meal and lively conversation.
Figured out the right measurements to make envelopes for my mini-slimline cards this morning. Wins all around!

Update: My group seems to be falling apart already. We did exchange "hello" cards. Not sure how many cards our first birthday girl in September got; I know I sent one.
There are five of us. I believe I got three holiday cards, but maybe only two.
I've received one birthday card from this group so far (my birthday's Saturday).
I was thinking about shopping for at least one TE product for Valentine's Day, but I'm going to hold off a little longer.

Thank you. Also, I am a moron. My birthday is actually Sunday...Saturday is the last day for happy mail to arrive on time.
Happily, my one birthday card from the TE group is from the woman I was able to meet in person also one of the two closest to me. If nothing comes of this but this one nearby IRL crafty acquaintance/maybe friend, still worthwhile.

Oh, I'm pretty sure I will. I think the universe is giving me a do-over. Two years ago, DH brought DKs out to CA for his Dad's 80th (day after mine). I stayed home and planned a spa day -- then got snowed in home alone. AND DH came home with Omicron! This will be a cozier, happier snowed in birthday!
