I have both skinny velvety ones and the chunky plastic ones.
I need more and am trying to figure out which ones to get.
The velvet ones are more expensive, but they claim to save space...do they really? The plastic ones are cheap and easy to use.

For my stuff I use the skinny velvet ones simply because it stops my things from sliding off of them. I can’t tell if it saves space because I have a bit of space between hangers. Wait, I use these to pack things in garment bags because they take up less space. DH prefers the plastic hangers be a use it is easier to hang everything and he doesn’t have any many open/v-necks.

same as dewryce... a mixture of both.. the skinny velvety ones keep my loose shirts and dresses on the hanger... the chuncky plastic we use for tshirts and pants... they seem more sturdy for work pants... then we have bigger wooden ones for our coats... lol we live in West Texas... we break out the coats when it gets to the 50s... lol

I use the skinny felt ones. They’re affordable and they do the job.

I may be the outlier in that I hate the skinny velvet hangers. Hard to get things on/off of them and they have a tendency to break. Also, I have worked hard to declutter my wardrobe and own less but better quality, so no need to try to cram more clothing in. My closet is a mix of CS Heavy Duty Tubular Hangers and CS Wooden Hangers. The wooden hangers are better for dresses, jackets and nicer blouses. I also switched to these wooden skirt hangers because I got tired of the plastic ones breaking.

Another vote for the CS hangers, I can’t remember one breaking and I’ve used them for as long as I can remember black to before they made them heavier. **GypsyGirl** I agree with you about the velvet hangers, it is a pain to get things on them. I have issues with clothes around my neck so most of my necks are wide and they’ll slide off though, so I put up with it. So definitely something to consider freecharlie. If you hang things to dry they are great to use.

I use the velvet ones, it makes my closet look nicer and things stay on there better. Has anyone used the velvet ones to hang up wet clothes to dry? I am afraid they will get lint or transfer color onto wet shirts, so I use the plastic ones to hang and dry.

I have a variety because I feel different types of clothing need different things. I have wooden hangers for jackets that I can also use for shirts, plastic ones that have the little slits in the top so you can hang sleeveless tops, smooth plastic ones because they are cheap and will work for all kinds of things and finally some satin covered ones for tops that I really don't want to chance a hanger mark on the shoulder. I also have some hangers with clips for pants that I don't want to fold over the ones that come from the dry cleaners.
My closet would have a closet organizer person reaching for their trash bag but it works for me.

I have been using cheap plastic hangers but I did just buy a box of velvet ones to try as a lot of my shirts have wider necks and fall off. I don’t like the plastic with the little dents in them except for things with spaghetti straps. They have stretched out a few shirts weird they leave little bumps on the shoulders snd DH doesn’t like them either.
I bought a box of 50 at Costco for $13.99. I need to do a major purge of my closet and hope to try these out to see if I like them better. I won’t use them on wet clothes but for clothes after they are dry.

I hang many pieces of clothing to dry and have not had any issues with color transfer with the black felt/velvet hangers.

I use the skinny velvet ones. I’m not picky about them all being exactly the same so I buy them in packs at HomeGoods or Ross when I pop in, they’re cheap there. They definitely save space.

I use the skinny velvet ones. I think I got a 50 pack for $25 on Amazon a while back.
DH likes the plastic ones but he doesn't have shirts that would just fall off. My sleeveless shirts would shift and then fall off.
I have some wooden ones for certain tops and dresses. I got some good cedar ones for the stuff I keep in storage to keep the bugs away.

The plastic ones in all different colors and sizes depending on when I bought them. I tried the velvet ones and hated them

My closet is not packed with clothes, but I am very happy with the skinny velvet ones. I like that the clothes do not move once you set them in place.

I like the plastic ones to hang wet clothes I don’t put in the dryer, but I use both in the closet. I only use the velvet ones in our rv though, because they take up less space.

The kind with a large clip on each side?

I guess I'm the outlier - I use the skinny non-velvet ones (similar to these). Mine don't have as thick of a grippy bar as the ones I linked - mine were from Bed Bath & Beyond, but I can no longer find them online. Compared to the velvet ones, these still have a good amount of grip to keep clothes in place on the hanger, but items are not difficult to remove. I dislike the velvet ones for everyday closet use, but do have a few for hanging wet clothes to line dry.

We recently tried some of the skinny velvet hangers. Of course about 2 days after opening that pack I found out that they make skinny plastic hangers too. I'm sure we will try those at some point because Dh really hates the velvet.
I don't have any issues with hanging wet clothes on them, though mine are a light gray color.

They are very thin, flat plastic. I ordered them from Amazon, and I am happy with them.

I only use the velvet hangers and everyone has their own color. I have had my sets for 7 years and haven’t had any break. DS, 25, has broken a few of his. Not enough to worry about it. I have enough space so I’ve never thought about whether or not they save space.

I use the velvet ones exclusively. In my TINY closet (and it is tiny) they really do save space. I have a few expensive ones (they’re sturdier) for heavier things and use cheap (more flimsy) ones for all my light blouses, dresses, etc.

Another skinny black velvet hanger user here. I love that my clothes stay put on the hanger and don't slip off or to the side. I also love the uniformity of them. Mine are all the same brand (from Costco). I watched a YT with a professional organizer/de clutterer, and the before and after of the closet was amazing. All she did was change out the mismatched hangers. Even before I went to the skinny black velvet ones, I had switched out all the colored plastics to white only. My suggestion is whatever you choose, get all the same color.
