I'm looking to make a couple of my own screen printed t-shirts for an event in the near future and while I know I can use my Silhouette to make the design, I don't like the vinyl on t-shirts and how it will peel off over time. Have any of you done at home screen printing and if so, did you use a kit or did you DIY it? I'm looking for links to what you may have used/youtube videos/etc and how it worked for you.

Okay, well, I'm cheap and didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars for a few shirts. So, I used my Silhouette to cut out the design backwards in wax paper. You then iron it all onto your shirt (the paper didn't budge and I could iron on the tiny pieces one at a time) and then I used acrylic paint that I applied with a foam brush lightly and evenly. After it had dried completely, I removed the wax paper and it lasted forever. I did it on a thin, light jacket that I found on a Clearance rack probably 13 years ago and that thing has held up.
The other thing I did was cut a stencil and then used the Speedball fabric paint. I got the 4 pack of colors from Michael's using a coupon. This was messier and I used a gift card to scrape it across the stencil to apply it evenly. I could not for the life of me remember what I used it for though, so can't speak to whether it would hold up, but I assume it would.
We are doing another Disney trip and I've been tossing around making some of our shirts again and my first technique will be what I use. The only downside of it is if you use a super thin shirt and too much paint, it will be hard and if your skin is sensitive, it could rub and cause issues. I place a thin piece of cardboard behind the front of the shirt just in case.
Are you doing it for a trip or an occasion or just for fun?

Are you doing it for a trip or an occasion or just for fun? Both sort of? I've always wanted to try it and we're also going to Disneyland in January and I'd like to potentially make matching shirts for us if I can find a design we all can agree on. I'm going to test out the wax paper method because that sounds the easiest and I already have all the stuff. Thanks for responding!

Not sure how many you're designing for, because that could clearly play a part... I did shirts for a trip we did back in 2017 and there were 15 of us. They were made with vinyl (luckily grandparents helped with expense) and coordinated to be each person's favorite color, but no duplicate hues. We were early and lined up in front of Walt & Mickey for the big photo in front of the castle with our shirts and then as soon as the photographer was done, a few of them proceeded to remove the shirts and toss them in the trash. I.. just... 6 years has not been enough time for me to not be irritated. Anyway. I hope you guys agree on something! Please share if you feel inclined.

OP, would an onine print on demand tee shirt place be an option for you?

You can be mad unless they all apologize for tossing those shirts, although it sounds like they haven't. My husband and I love Star Wars but my kid does not and they also aren't huge into Mickey or Minnie anymore so I've been asking them what is their favorite Disney character (so far crickets ) My sister is also going with us and she would be happy with anything we decide.

I know this isn't the Disney thread but for one of our trips I made the cutest Mickey ear shirts for all the kids.
I took a bowl, dipped the lip in paint, then took teacups, dipped the lip in paint, then used them like a stencil to make a Mickey Mouse on the shirt. I did the bowl first, then the teacup. I did not do them at the same time. We have fiestaware so the paint washed away very easily.
They were so cute. Not perfect but really cute. And super easy.

If they didn't want to wear them, fine, but to just throw them away after you spent all that time is just unacceptable.
