I know we have a lot of teachers here. I remember the days when the demographic was young Mom's with babies and school age children. Now we are more interested in menopause relief than school supplies. Here in MN kids can't go back to public school until after Labor Day, by law. This may be due to the farm lobby that wanted to keep the kids on the farm helping out as long as possible. Also, I don't think many of our schools have air conditioning. We are out usually the first week in June.

Kids in this area go back mid-August and they get out in early June. I think August is too early because when I went to school we went back after Labor Day. That holiday signaled the end of summer, and I still think that way. There is one or two school districts in the county that I know still goes back after Labor Day.

We have quite a few school districts within my county, so it depends on the school district. Some started this week and will continue to the end of the month, but none start after Labor Day.

We have the labor day law here too but increasingly schools are applying for and granted waivers. As my dd is 23 I had to look it up. Our school district goes back the 21. The neighboring district where dd went goes back the day after. It seems so dang early!
The university where I work is also starting back earlier and earlier. This year on the 28th.

Here in my county of GA they went back this week. DD #2 started her first year of teaching on Wednesday. My oldest DD's boys went back today (they live a couple of counties north of us). But we also end the year on May 22nd.

August 9 for many or August 14 for the others.
Texas passed a law (rule?) that schools had to wait until last week of August (I think that was it) but a district could ask for a waiver. All the school districts ask for the waiver.
Resorts and vacation led business want the schools to start after Labor Day. Families want the school calendar to allow for a week at Thanksgiving, a week in the spring and the traditional 2 weeks in December, plus end by Memorial Day. That is a difficult task to do with the required number of days in a school year.

Kids start on Aug. 28th. Teachers have to be back on the 17th, which is a change from past years. Previously they only had to go back a week before the kids, but this year the admin folks, in all their wisdom [insert sarcasm font here] added on two extra days. Needless to say, the teachers aren't happy since we all know that a lot of stuff that goes on during that pre-service time is wasted time. Most teachers I know would rather spend more of the time planning and getting their classrooms ready, not listening to the latest and greatest from the language arts guru from the county.

Bavaria, Germany. This week is the first week of summer break and school will go back on September 12. We are the latest German state to start and end summer vacation. As well as the 6 week summer break, we get two weeks off at Christmas, Easter and mid/late June ( depends on when Easter falls) and one week at the start of November and mid February.

Our district starts on August 16. The larger neighboring district begins on Aug 28. Meanwhile, for my niece (a teacher in Miss.) school began on Aug 1.

Several in my area have already gone back. Others start next week. Always after Labor Day when I was school age. Usually around August 15 when my son was in school.

I heard that kids can’t start school until after Labor Day due to the impacts on resorts and other vacation spots. Not sure what is actually correct. But I’m glad we don’t start until after Labor Day. I am sure you are right. I heard that Naniboujou lodge in northern MN will stop serving lunch after August 8th due to upcoming staff shortages.

DD16 goes back on Thursday (they broke for the summer Memorial Day weekend - as in they had school on Fri and then were done)
unsurprisingly Florida law says schools can't start earlier than Aug 10th...so almost every county starts then

Mid August...I don't recall the exact date.... it used to be 90% of the time on my son's birthday... which is the 15th.. so somewhere around there...I should know since DD will be a Sophomore.. lol

I think they repealed the "after labor day" law here. The kids were going far into June with it due to another change where it wasnt just days in school, but hours.
I wish they would do quality over quantity and have school from Labor Day to Memorial Day, even though that woukd have been a pain for us as working parents.

Sept 6th in the UK I believe. I loved the school calendar in England. 6 week summers gave time for rest and fun but not the boredom and brain drain. My DD went to a lot of academic camps one we moved back to the U.S when she was 10. She started school in Japan then England. Long American summer breaks got to her quick
My area goes back mid-August, gets out mid-May
