Getting ready for the school year. 😀
I jumped on the chance for the RSV vaccine, since Walgreens started offering it last week. RSV tore through our school last year and I want to be ready.
Our school usually offers free flu shots for teachers and staff sometime in the fall, but I thought that I’d knock them out together, knowing that I may need another flu shot in the spring.

Wow that’s early. I have to wait (and fight) to get mine in November and last year it was this January I got it. The province botched the rollout last year. I hope for better this year.

Is there an age requirement for the rsv vax? Either child (don’t know upper age limit) or 60+. I don’t know if the usual immunocompromised thing is at play for qualifying you for this vaccine yet. I just turned 60, so was eligible with no issue. Tricare picked up the whole cost.

We usually get our flu shot early September. I already started getting reminders from my pharmacy. This summer sure did fly by!

Since I’m in an elementary school, I don’t wait. Here, in the USA, you can just go to your local pharmacy or grocery store pharmacy and get flu shots.

I am waiting until around October. By then, the new Covid booster should be out. If my doctor recommends I get it, I’ll get the flu and Covid shot at the same time.

Yes, I heard maybe even mid Sept for the new covid booster. 🤞🏻 So glad I did well with the Moderna version so I am allowed to get that pharmacy version again.

We usually get ours in October so it’s at peak performance by the time flu season hits here.

We have appointments for the RSV shots on the 18th. We get our flu shot in October so that it will last the entire "season."

I did that one year - shot in each arm - and it knocked me out for two days! I was going to say the same thing. I did that last year. I normally do get sick with the COVID shot so I don't know what I was thinking. But the pharmacist said just do it and get it over with. I never get sick with the flu shot. This year I will do the shots on separate weeks.

I am not brave enough to try two at once! The flu shot does nothing to me, other than a slightly sore arm. The Covid shot hits me about 12 hours later and I feel sick for about 24 hours. But each successive shot (I’ve had 4 so far 2-First Series, 2-boosters) the aftereffect has been milder and milder. So, I am willing to try it this time and see what happens. Wish me luck. Lol!!

I did that one year - shot in each arm - and it knocked me out for two days! Me, too! I did both shots last last year, (one in each arm) last Aug or September. Wiped me out! LOL. Then I found out that that’s way too early and would need to get the flu shot again in Jan/Feb to be covered through April/May (at my own cost, insurance would not cover a 2nd flu shot.). I passed and just was super careful this past spring.

I didn't even know there was an RSV vaccination. I will have to see if it is available here. I had what I am certain is RSV a few months ago, at the end of autumn (May).

The RSV vaccine is brand-spanking new. It wasn’t available here - ever - until last week. Given that I teach in an elementary school (ages 5-12 years old), am older, and am a cancer survivor, I jumped on it.

I’ll try to get my flu this week. I’m DREADING the Covid booster. It knocks me out every time, usually for at least a day and a half. I know, I know…it’s better than Covid.

RSV vaccines now too? Ugh!
Flu- no thank you (I don't ever get the vaccine)
Covid booster- no thank you (I am sick for DAYS after covid shots- like it takes me out of commission as bad as when I actually HAD covid)
Prevnar- I got that one in (I think) 2018 when I told my doctor I didn't want the flu shot. I'm asthmatic so it was a compromise I was willing to make. I had a sore arm for a YEAR after it. Don't think I'll be getting that one again.
Now, shingles shot- SIGN MY BUTT UP! I do NOT want that mess! I turn 50 next April and am waiting for the day I can get it. I had HORRIBLE chicken pox when I was 5. They called them hommorages (or something like they- they blistered, popped, reblistered a few times)

Yay for vaccines! I usually celebrate my end-of-September birthday by getting the flu vaccine, so maybe this year I need to add RSV too...? And of course I'll get the covid one which I just assumed I'd get at the same time as the flu.
There was a doctor on CNN last week talking about the "trifecta of viruses" waiting for us this year. ugh

I will the COVID vaccine when it comes out, but I will get it on a Friday afternoon, because that one kicks my butt. My arm is sore today, but who knows whether it is due to the flu shot or the rsv shot, or both. I have a red spot about 1/2” in diameter where the rsv shot was administered.

I jumped on the chance for the RSV vaccine, since Walgreens started offering it last week. RSV tore through our school last year and I want to be ready. What's the age requirement on those? My son usually has seizures when he's sick and I'm trying to reduce them.
ETA: should have read the thread.

I got my first booster 6 months after the primary 2 Pfizer shots because that was sort of what everyone was doing. Around 6 months later, I had my annual blood work done and the doctor tested for antibodies. Mine was still high so he said I didn’t need any boosters for awhile. I didn’t get my next booster until one year later when the new variant was covered by the shot. Now, I’ll get the next booster, if the doctor says ok, since it is covering another new variant. Some people get boosters more often. It all depends on you and your body.

elaine ~~ Thanks for the reminder. The RSV vaccination is not available in Canada as Health Canada hasn't approved it yet. Was this expensive? Could a pharmacist be able to administer this? I do live close to the USA border. If you have any information on this, I would appreciate it if you could share. TIA
I just found out that Health Canada approved the RSV vaccine on August 4, 2023!It's a bit early for the Influenza vaccination but my PCP has put my name on the list to be notified once she has it. revirdsuba99 ~~ Thanks for the reminder about the Prevnar 20 reminder. I got this one today as I am prone to pneumococcal pneumonia. I was hospitalized a few times as a young child and have to be very careful. I will get my 6th Covid shot when the new vaccine for the newer strain(s) will be available in October 2023.

I got my pneumonia and shingles vaccines earlier this year. I'll get my flu at the beginning of November at my annual physical. I hadn't heard about an RSV vaccine, wondering if my rheumatologist will bring it up at our September appt. As far as COVID vaccines, I'm "officially" allergic to MRNA vaccines so no COVID vaccines/boosters for me

I have to plan to be out of commission for at least 2 days after pretty much any vaccine. Shingles shot was 5 days of misery each time, but I'm glad I did it! Thinking of you and sending love.
