So I've probably had it for 20 years. Mostly on my big toes but they are yellow, brittle, etc. I keep darkish polish on them to disguise them. I had tried various things a few times but you have to be really diligent and I wasn't.
I would really like to get a pedicure to trim the cuticles, make them look nice, etc. Haven't in decades but I googled it and apparently many salons will do it if you let them know in advance and bring your own polish.
A few years ago I even had un unrelated toe/toenail infection and the podiatrist had to remove my nail. I thought, great now it's going to grow back nice and pretty... It did and then it didn't so I was back to an ugly nail.
Anyone get pedicures with having it? Of course I don't want to transfer it to anyone but it's somewhat common so maybe more people get it.

Well I didn’t get a pedicure when I had it on my big toe so I can’t speak to that. I tried various over the counter products and nothing worked. What finally cured it was good old Vicks Vaporub. I was diligent, I stripped off the nail polish and put it on in the morning and again in the evening. Took about a month I think to clear it up and no problems since.

DH had toenail fungus. He cured it with Vicks Vapor rub. His took a couple of months to cure it. There is a Rx but it also takes months to cure it.
We thought if both would take months we would use the OTC product rather than the Rx.

The nails need to filed down to thin them down. No medication can penetrate a thick nail. On YouTube, the Meticulous Manicurist has a product she sells called “nail mycosis”. From the comments, a lot of people have had luck with it, but must be used consistently. www.meticulousmanicurist.com/shop/p/nail-mycosis-solution

MerryMom another fan of The meticulous Manicurist! She has taught me so much about taking care of my toes. Since following her techniques I’ve had pain free toes that look nice.

My dh has been dealing with a really bad toe for years now. He started off taking prescription Jublia which has done nothing, then he joined a drug trial that was also unsuccessful. Just this week he met with someone at a laser therapy studio and he’s going for his first laser treatment this week. It’s supposed to take about 8-10 sessions and they boast a high success rate.

I had it and used the Vicks Vapor Rub. I also kept my nail filled down thinly. Layered on the Vicks and wrapped it in a band-aid during the day. At night, I would let it get air without the vicks and band-aid. The band-Aid helped to keep the vicks on my toe while I was wearing shoes/sandals.

I have tried everything and nothing seems to work. I HATE it! Dh tried the prescription and it helped for a while. But it came back and I guess he spread it to the rest of us. Mine isn't that bad, but my sons both have it really bad on a couple toes. Our doctor doesn't recommend the prescription for them. Apparently it can damage the liver. We have tried Vicks and a couple of other ointments, tea tree oil. Nothing seems to do the trick. Maybe I'll try to get us all in to the podiatrist.
