Me again. I think I want to try to make "buckeyes" next weekend. Is the recipe pretty much the same? I think the chocolate is probably the most critical component so what kind is best and where do I get it?

I really like the Ghirardelli 60% cocao chocolate melting wafers that I buy in a big bag at Sam's Club. I also have seen smaller bags of them at my local Meijer and Schnucks (chain grocery stores). They melt so smoothly, have a semi glossy finish when they harden and they actually taste like decent quality chocolate, rather than the waxy taste of the cheaper blocks of chocolate.

Don't forget to add Rice Krispies to the peanut butter.

We call them peanut butter truffles... Sounds fancy!
Here's my recipe:
1/2 stick butter (softened) 3/4 cup peanut butter 1 tsp vanilla Mix together Add powdered sugar until it is very thick with a play dough-like consistency.
Roll into 1" balls. (Add more powdered sugar if they are sticky or don't stay round).
Melt chocolate or white almond bark and dip the balls I to it and put them on waxed paper to harden.
Drizzle with the opposite color to make them pretty.
mmmmmmm!

I dip in melted chocolate chips. No added wax. I also don't add rice krispies.

I'm from central Ohio and I've had every version of Buckeyes recipe and I've never heard of adding Rice Krispies to the peanut butter mixture. I've had ones where the person used crunchy peanut butter or ground up graham crackers (I don't care for the texture).
I use Blue Bonnett margarine, Jif brand peanut butter, and Nestles chocolate chips.
This is a smaller recipe, but it can be doubled.
The Buckeye recipe is as follows:
1 1/2 lb. powdered sugar (this is about 5 1/4 cups) 1 LB JIF peanut butter (2 cups) 1/2 LB Blue Bonnet margarine (2 sticks)
Mix together and form balls the size of buckeyes. I put them on a cookie sheet (with a piece of wax paper on top of the cookie sheet) which I then place in the freezer for an hour or so. While they are chilling,
6 oz of Nestle chocolate chips 1/3 block of paraffin
Melt the chocolate chips (you guessed it, I have an "I only use" brand - Nestles) with 1/3 block of paraffin in a pan over a pan of gently boiling water.
I use a toothpick to dip the buckeyes about 3/4 of the way and I again stick them in the freezer (on the same wax paper lined cookie sheet) for a few minutes before storing them in a tin. I have tried different brands of the peanut butter, etc. and I swear the other brands are not as good!

I love it when someone posts a recipe and is so specific as to the brand!. My Mom's recipe for Peanut Butter Balls can only be made with Skippy peanut Butter, Imperial margarine and Kellogg Rice Krispies.
My annual batch is chilling in the refigerator.
