When I’m needing a little pick-me-up, I go “shopping” by picking out things at my favorite online stores, putting them in the basket, but not hitting the buy button. I just leave them there. When I happen back to that online store in the future, it’s fun to see what I picked a few months earlier. My favorite places to “shop” are Pottery Barn, Chicos, and Amazon. Do you ever do this?
If not, what do you do for a quick pick-me-up that doesn’t involve eating or spending money?

That is a fun idea. I often find if I leave something in my online cart waiting for a large enough coupon code, I decide I didn't really need it or want it.

This is my favorite kind of shopping. I do it all the time.
A friend who runs an online store, however, told me that for small business owners it messes with their inventory system. I'm not sure how that works. So generally I only do it with large corporate places.

Yes, the term retail therapy is no joke! I’m impressed that you normally manage to leave the items unpurchased.
Therapist: And what do we say when we’re sad? Me: Add to cart Therapist: No!
I also do it all the time when I’m hypomanic, a big improvement from just buying all.the.things. If the urge is really bad I cull it down over time (sometimes hours, sometimes weeks) and then “run it by” DH. It’s not a control thing with him, it was originally my idea as a way to help curb my frenetic shopping.

I am a shopaholic but with kids (one in college!), a house that needs some updates and the usual day to day bills, it’s not always a great hobby to have! I made a shopping list on Amazon and put things on there that I want to buy instead of actually buying them. On Prime Day, I check out my list and if it’s something I need and it is on a good sale/lightning deal, I’ll buy it then. As I get older, I’m realizing I need less stuff!

I don't do the online shopping cart thing because mostly I hate shopping... .definitely I hate it in person, but even online believe it or not. lol. Although, I do love Amazon because then I never have to go to a real store. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/OrTI4SBmZ2ZYSFv6ag4f.jpg) But, you asked what's a quick pick-me-up that's not eating or spending... For me I'll play my online game, RuneScape. Killing a few dragons or working on a quest or just messing around. Or I might play a day of Dinkum, a Steam game that's like Animal Crossing but better. (Dinkum's days pass much more quickly than a real-life day which is why I say "play a day"). Or, sometimes I'll just watch a couple episodes of whatever show I'm binging on. Right now it's "FBI" on Paramount+. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg)

Ha ha. I used to do that at Amazon, but my family turned out to be not great about double-checking to make sure there weren't already things in the cart when they placed an order, so a teen needing a new binder would turn into an unexpected (expensive!) care package from past me to present me. Now I just have a lot of wish lists that I add to ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) .

Amazon wish lists! It’s a great way to “shop”, for “wishful thinking” or just because I’m curious or bored. Ha.
One of the very best things I love about Amazon shopping is the “Last purchased date” big, bold and very noticeable on items I’ve purchased before. It’s really stops me from making accidental duplicate purchases. Apparently when I like something, I really like something!

It reminds me of when I was a little girl. I used to grab one of the Christmas catalogs we got and I would go through it page by page. I let myself pick one thing per page to “buy.”

Unfortunately some online stores raise the prices on items sitting in you cart.. Wayfair is good for that..
Although Joann sends me good coupons when there are things sitting in my cart. Like 25% off everything including sale items with $2.99 shipping..

I'm not sure how that works. So generally I only do it with large corporate places. There's a small scrapbooking retailer I use that deletes my cart if I don't actually purchase. I was wondering why that happens and find it annoying. The last time I just didn't have time to finalize my order because something came up, and went back the next day and my cart was deleted. Now I know why!

I do that with scrapbook products.
Mostly it's because I don't want to have to go through the viewing of the new products or the pre-order categories more than once. Before I make my purchase, I edit my cart once or twice or more. I generally let the cart fill up to the required minimum amount to obtain free shipping, before I make a purchase.

I mostly just put things on my Amazon lists. I too discovered that if I leave something in the cart the price tends to go up before I actually buy it.

No, I don’t really do that. I do put things on my wish list, but that is when I am either actively searching for something and I want to save different options, or I am uncertain if I want to buy it.
As for pick me ups, I do puzzles, games (videos), read, or exercise. I do like to window shop. I can go to the store and browse around and not buy anything. A book store or artsy type shop is the best pick me up for me.

I'm like monklady123 I hate shopping, in person or online. I only do it if necessary. If I need a little pick me up I smoke a bowl and talk my husband into going back to bed.😂🤣
