I had no interest in anything sailing related (because I don't sail, own a sailboat, know how to tie a knot, speak pirate) and the sailing lines are usually so red, white, and blue they wouldn't work for much else, until... I decided to set a reading goal next year of reading more ocean related books and of course I'm going to have to make at least a page (or a small album) about it, because that's what I do. Bring on the ships, lighthouses, whales, octopuses, anchors, knots... Who knew Heidi Swapp read my mind and made the Set Sail line. It (well select papers, and some die cuts) are now on their way to my house. You just never know what random theme you will suddenly need until you need it Of course, the chances of me reading one book, deciding I'm over anything ocean related, and never making that album is also a possibility...

I think you should learn some knots just for kicks! Glad you found a fun use for some different supplies.
I loved using the Carta Bella Ahoy There collection when I scrapped a New England vacation. It's a nice combo of light blue and kraft with the traditional red and navy.

As a cardmaker, those themes and color schemes are also fantastic for the elusive "masculine card".

This is why I "buy it when I see it" with seasonal products......because seasonal products come and go. Just because I don't *need* it now, I may need it in the future.

I’ve recently decided to make a reading journal/scrapbook. I never thought to match the paper and theme of the book. Love this idea!

So true! I have a ridiculous amount of beach things, despite living nowhere near a beach, and not going near an ocean in a very long time. So, yeah, I'd like to know what books you have read! I've been on a bit of a beachy themed reads this summer too. I have these grand plans of some cohesive 'books I've read' album, but I think I'm just going to be my usual ADHD self and throw in pages as I make them.

The book that started this idea was Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt... so good. I'm not sure what exactly I'm going to read yet, I'm compiling a list... A lot of ocean related books are either classics or non-fiction so that will be a challenge in and of itself. I do a yearly "what I read this year" page, but I just use random paper I like for that one. We play a lot of board games, and I have bought paper that reminds me of certain games... I haven't done that with books though or my paper collection would need it's own time zone

You just never know what random theme you will suddenly need until you need it Which perfectly explains the eclectic nature of my hoard ... er... collection of scrappy goodness

I bought a lot of that line at JoAnn's. We went on a cruise and the boats were a little off, but I thought I could use it anyway. We ended up actually seeing a fair amount of sailboats in Alaska.

Which perfectly explains the eclectic nature of my hoa There's been some talk about hoards and hoarding with respect to paper crafting. Makes me think of dragons like Smaug, sitting on their hoard of treasure and breathing fire...except breathing fire is seriously contraindicated for paper crafters. So then I think about some odd dragon/Edward Scissorhands hybrid sort of thing. Yes, yes, I am very twisted. Sorry.

I bought some of that Photoplay Shark Attack collection because I thought it was funny. I haven't had the occasion to use it yet, but indeed, you never know . . . . 😄

Or maybe how seeing "Jaws" affected me as a kid. I grew up in Southern California and would only go up to about my ankles in the ocean for years after that!
