Inspired by the current/upcoming holiday releases, do you usually mix (i.e. use together) white & cream on a layout/card/project? TIA.

Nope - for me it's either all cream-based or all white-based and I cannot mix the two. (Wow, that sounds more rigid than I actually mean it when I write it out like that!) What I mean is that if I start a page using one or the other, I'll seek out embellishments, other papers, etc. for the page that have the same base (cream or white).

I try to keep cool colors together and warm ones together. I think if I tried to mix white and cream it would look like I messed up and didn’t check my papers carefully.

Never. Just my personal opinion....they don't match.

I said never, but thinking more about it, I still keep a white border on my photos even if I am using cream / warm colours. Does that count? I would never use big bits of white with cream.

I only mix if it's very intentional - sometimes it does work but rarely! If my ephemera is stark white and I'm doing a cream based layout I have a copic marker to colour the white bits cream!

White can be warm too. I think you can mix a warm white with cream and get away with it. A stark blue white, no. And sometimes, I just don't care and put together whatever I want! LOL!

Sometimes it’s fine. I wouldn’t mix a distressed or aged cream with a crisp white, but a “clean cream” can work with white, depending on what else is going on. I probably wouldn’t layer one right in top of the other, but I do f mind the two existing on the same page. Here’s a LO where I did put cream right on top of white. I love this page. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ http://instagram.com/p/CcBfXW7PRkL

If it looks good to me, I do it. I don't really do it often, because most of the time it doesn't look good to me. ETA: It isn't just cream for me either. In fact, I don't use the word "cream" at all. I never even heard it called that until I saw a video by Shimelle. I use the term "off-white" to describe anything that isn't a pure white, and cream is in that group.

It depends on the feel of the supplies. If I was working on a fresh, clean looking layout with lots of white I wouldn’t add anything with a warm cream vintage look. However, if I was using supplies with a vintage look and feel it could use some brightening I would add some bright whites here and there to freshen it up a little. So I guess I will mix white and cream if they’re both fresh looking or if the cream or vintage supplies need some freshening.

Yep. I also wear shirts with white in them with cream or light khaki bottoms or cream sandals with white pants and dresses. For me it’s about the undertone/hue of the white and cream, or the style, not the colors themselves.

Sometimes I do mix them, and don't realize it until I'm done. Not a biggie.

I need another option. Rarely but it has happened. Generally speaking, I do not mix white and cream. I don’t usually like to mix various levels of cream, but I’m getting better at that. It just feels wrong to me unless I’m able to mix enough so it looks purposeful and not like I’ve forgotten how to match.

I will do this in certain circumstances. As a rule, I don't generally do it, but I agree with those who have said it depends on whether it is a warm white, or a stark white. I think I might have some papers with both a white (or more white) and cream. Those kind of papers help to bring white and cream together on a layout and help everything make sense. Sometimes it's hard to avoid if I have a perfect paper from one collection and a perfect embellishment from another.

I selected sometimes, but really it is very rarely. It is my preference to not mix the two.

Yes. I also mix square and rounded journal cards. Or, I should say I probably mix white and cream, because it's not something I think about.

PaperAngel - no, I typically won't buy a collection that has a lot of white and cream mixed together. But it depends on several other things: how much I like the various elements of the collection, whether they're separate enough that I can use the white elements separately from the cream elements, how much I think I'll use each of the pieces, etc.

Yes. If it is a mixture of white and cream, I won't buy it. I just don't care for the look of it. If I buy a collection I want the papers to coordinate with each other. To me white and cream just don’t mesh so I probably wouldn’t buy it.

I do. I personally don’t care for this “rule”. If I think it looks good together, I use it no matter what color it is. If I put them together on a LO I’m working on, and it’s not visually appealing to me, I just don’t use it. I treat them as any other color.
Yes, I’ll buy a collection with both.

I don’t like mixing on a layout, but in a mini book, I can usually make it work, but still don’t love it. The problem for me is that white makes cream look dirty. And I love matting photos with crisp white.
