I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if my printer isn't doing it's job correctly, but I'm trying to print digital elements that are black and they always turn out like a dark gray. I've tried changing paper type (premium matte to ultra premium matte) on the printer side and on the computer side I chose all different settings with the same result. Do any of you have any tips to print blacks as true black instead of gray? Forgot to mention the paper I'm using - it's Hammermill 80lb premium color copy digital cover. I do have Epson presentation matte paper but I try not to use it too much because it's pricey. UPDATE: Using the Epson Presentation Matte paper worked much better. I also found out there's a right and a wrong side to that paper too, so make sure you're printing on the correct side. It's hard as heck to tell though.

I notice when I don’t print on my presentation paper my elements look faded. I don’t know if that’s the issue you are having but I would try the presentation paper. I have basically learned of the elements are shabby chic and weathered looking I need to use presentation paper.

Thanks ecvnj58 ! I was afraid of that. I'll give it a try and report back.

You can buy double sided paper too but it’s a bit more expensive. I scrap in the basement and always have to bring my paper outside to see which side is correct so I have been doing double sided. I think the single sided is more bright white though.
Glad it worked. Wish there was a more frugal option but I haven’t found one.

I got my XP8500 in July and still trying to tweak it to get the colors right. I was using the Epson matte presentation paper and the colors seemed off. I recently bought some Neenah bright white cardstock to try and it helped. Still not perfectly black, but it's better.
