Wondering if anyone has suggestions for an over head camera mount? Something that attaches to a desk or mounts to the ceiling. I want to take stills and walkthrough videos of my projects but need something to hold my camera. Are there decent entry level options?
Second, my room is a 7x7 square with no natural light. I have 4 pendants in the ceiling which are very bright, but produce pretty harsh shadows. Would a ring light on the camera mount help this?
Thank you!

I don't have a overhead mount to suggest but I would definitely get a ring light or maybe fill lights as well. Here's a decent video on how to set up. overhead camera setup

I needed a new desk lamp anyway so I splurged on a Canvas lamp (I got the mini size because my desk is small) www.shopcanvas.co/ It's a phone holder built into the ring light. It can hold the weight of a phone steadily over your project while you work and you can adjust the light temperature. Some of the cheapo ring light holders on amazon sag or are designed for makeup streaming, not overhead use. Canvas is a small Southern business which also made me feel better about the purchase. I have used it for flip through videos and to take photos of cards and it works well. It's also a lot more stylish, like an equipoise lamp - my desk is visible from almost every part of the house incl the front door.

I just bought this holder for my desk. It can be sat on the floor or on a table and it extends more than enough to use overhead. Next year I really want to spend time filming and I feel like this is a dogs starter mount - it’s heavy enough without having something screwed to the ceiling and the price was good. www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0B2D8Q8SG?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

I have the white Canvas ring light and loved it so much I bought the marble base to have more mobility with it. I adore this thing! I’ve brought it to retreats to use as an overhead light and to film while mobile. I give it a 10/10 every time. They even have a mag safe add on which is so easy to use too.

Did you start out with the "desk clamp" style and then added the marble base later on?

It really is properly weighted for the height and possible diameters you can move the light. I continue to be impressed that I’ve not managed to tip it once.

My previous attempt to find something to record with did not work out well, as the arm just couldn't hold the weight of my phone so I'm hesitant to try again with another system as I've already wasted $$. Do you have a larger phone? I ask because I'm using an iPhone 10 Max (it's a big one) and am upgrading to the 15 Pro Max (another big one). So I'm curious if your phone is also larger and still works well with the Canvas light?

It had nothing to do with this mount though. I just prefer my webcam. I do use the phone with the Canvas MagSafe mount when I’m filming while traveling though. Zero issues…unless you count my camera dying mid filming but that’s not really Canvas’ fault. Lol
