Isn’t it strange how it’s always the ones you most suspect?

I'm not sure...I think there's fair few who do seem to feel we've overstepped 'our place' but when you consider incel groups, the amount of rapes/murders...that looks like hatred to me. I think violent rape and murder are hatred and I think most men are capable of understanding that. They 'get' why rape is problematic when a women is beaten up and bruised and injured. The problem a lot of men have is that without violence or injury they still don't see a sexual act where the women isn't an enthusiastic participant as being a sexual assault. Russell Brand maintains all of his sexual acts were consensual...yet at the same time admits he slept with hundreds of women, I doubt he stopped to check back how they all felt about their encounters with him. Men assuming sex was consensual isn't the same as it really being consensual.

I saw him in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and I think that may be it--I don't really like comedies or stand-up. After all of the Cosby and Lewis CK stuff, honestly, nothing surprises me.
I think women often get the advice that coming forward ruins your life and career. We get this advice because it's often true.

I find it overwhelming to be honest - this attitude is so pervasive. Why do so many men hate women seemingly and feel the need to ‘overpower’ them in one way or another? 😕 I don’t think it’s hatred, I think it’s indifference. They have NO clue as to how their actions affect women, either at the time or in the future and they don’t care. I think it’s a mix depending on who the perpetrator is. Some are the clueless types who truly don’t realize how assholian their behavior is and others are actually hateful. Back when my sisters and I were dating, our mom used to say, “Look at how a guy treats his mother, that’s exactly how he’ll treat you.” And you know what, she was right! The ones I know who treated their moms like they were servants or second class citizens also treat their now wives the same way. The ones who showed their moms love and respect also treat their wives and daughters with love and respect. I’ve seen it with both family and friends. As for Russell Brand, I’ve always thought of him as a sleezebag and seriously wondered what Katy Perry ever saw in him. He’s just gross.

Yeah, I'm another person who never saw his appeal because he always came off as a skeevy creep and I wondered how he was so popular. However, the last 5-10 years between MAGA and incels has been revealing in what appeals to others. Iago's, "I think I'm gonna have a heart attack and die from not surprised," quote from Aladdin, sums up my feelings on the recent stuff breaking.

He's always skeeved me out. I could never figure out why Katy Perry married him. I always wondered if marrying him was her way of rebelling because she was a preacher’s kid.

I’ll be honest, I have always found him to be utterly repulsive and creepy. My view was confirmed when they showed some old footage on the telly, of him behaving in an inappropriate and entitled manner, with his hands all over female presenters, and kissing them on the lips without invitation. *Shudder*.

He’s disgusting and creepy and like the others before him, he got away with it for so long he thinks he’s untouchable. I feel bad for his wife and kids.

I like a funny guy, but there was always something a little off about him for me. I guess I am not shocked, but I am sad that he did these things (well, if he did he things... until proven guilty).

There were always red flags with him, but I admit, I did think he was clever and smart, and I enjoyed how he poked at some of the institutions..... I followed him in my early days of TikTok (pre-covid); he wasn't as funny by that time, but he did talk about turning his life around and still had some interesting takes.
But then, Covid hit, and he became insufferable. He definitely became part of the "crunchy to anti-vax" pipeline, and then I could clearly see suffers from typical narcissistic "I am the smartest person in the room" syndrome. The misogyny was always there; the narcissism was always there, but he "sort of" hid it with his quick wit and over-the-top personality---or it distracted from it.
Not super surprised and not super surprised to see he is denying it all and blaming it on "establishment"/media/persecution.

I watched a TikTok the other night which I thought really interesting. The person said that RB absolutely knew this moment was coming when the MeToo movement started. This was around the time he started with aligning himself with the far right type people and building a following so that when the accusations came out he would have these "don't trust the media" people behind him. Makes sense to me.

Not super surprised and not super surprised to see he is denying it all and blaming it on "establishment"/media/persecution. I read his statement and I thought it was ridiculous that he was blaming his problems on the media. I also was repulsed when he noted that the sexual misconduct all supposedly happened at a time when he was very sexually active. By noting he was sexually active, he was of course implying that a lot of women wanted to sleep w/ him, which was probably true. I'm sure he thinks that if a lot of women wanted to sleep with him, then all women in their right mind would welcome his sexual advances and he can't possibly be guilty of sexual harassment or assault. I think there are still a lot of people out there who believe that sex crimes are crimes of passion committed by men who can't find willing sexual partners.
