Several days ago, I purchased some items online at Michaels while they had their 30% sale. The total came to $58, with free shipping starting at $49, and it also said that all the items were eligible for free shipping. On my invoice under Shipping & Handling it said "Free". I received an e-mail from Michaels yesterday saying that one of the items shipped (a pack of cardstock), along with the price of the cardstock and then $12.70 for shipping. I checked my PP account and sure enough, an additional $12.70 was deducted for Michaels shipping.
I plan on calling them tomorrow to get this straightened out, but I just wanted to check to see if anyone here has had a similar experience. I didn't see anything that said that shipping would be added if any of the products had to be shipped separately. Then again, maybe I just missed it.
If I have to pay additional shipping fees for any item(s) that they have to send separately, it will defeat the whole purpose of the 30% sale, and then some. Is this normal for Michaels to do?

I’ve only ordered from Michaels online once and my order was split but it still qualified for free shipping.
I would check to make sure everything you purchased was shipped and sold by Michaels. A third party seller/shipper might be the problem. That sucks that you were charged shipping.

Oh man, that sucks!! I hope you find out what happened and let us know. I would not buy from them if there's a chance they add a shipping charge later. That feels like it should be illegal!

The salesperson at my local Michaels said you have to be careful when ordering online and make sure you're ordering from Michaels and not a third party. I just looked and there's a ton of different 3rd party sellers and those all say "free shipping over $49" so I would think that would be ALL items that total $49 should be free shipping and not just from that one 3rd party seller. I noticed also that ACOT sells via Michaels too.

All the third-party sellers on Michaels.con make me nuts. They’re relatively new, added in the last year or so I think. If I wanted to shop the internet I would; I’m here because I want to buy something from Michael’s! I haven’t found a way to filter them out, but I’ve suggested that they add something.
I have had orders from them arrive in multiple shipments without additional charges.

At the time of the sale, I double-checked to make sure that nothing was being sent via third-party. All items were sent via Michaels.
But I called a little while ago and explained the situation to the rep. He e-mailed me requesting that I send the e-mail that I received from Michaels that shows the $12.70 shipping charge. I did that and I'm awaiting their reply. I think everything will be OK now, but I was concerned. I've shopped often over the years at our local Michaels. This was the first time ordering online. I found this transaction a little confusing via their e-mail communications. For instance, when I printed the receipt online, it showed the total of the order; but I didn't realize until later that it didn't show the item that was being shipped separately, nor the item that I had to pick up.
Anyway, all's well that ends well. I just don't want to pay $12.70 shipping on an $11.99 item!

I’m no longer shopping in person at Michael’s since mine is self checkout and they never have anyone at the one that should have a cashier. I guess it’s just one more store I will stop shopping at.

In my experience, if you look around you can usually find the person who should be manning the register and they will run right over. Personnel is still hard to find for retail and they are definitely running lean. If they took cash at their self checkout, I'd roll with it, but I am NOT doing a card transaction for a purchase less than $2!

katieanna , was Michael's by any chance using UPS to ship? They seem to be having some sort of giant glitch in their system. A lobster delivery that is normally $70 shipping was showing up as $199 IN DELVERY CHARGE ALONE yesterday. I called the seller before placing the order and they spent the last 24 hours trying to straighten it out. UPS doesn't know what's wrong, but they have been getting complaints from other customers. Maybe your order is caught up in that?

I happened into poking around in my older email -- what a mess! It does look like at least some Michaels orders are shipped UPS.

Maybe your order is caught up in that? I apologize. I wanted to update this with what happened earlier and had been so busy I'd forgotten. As it turns out, the fault was mine, I'm ashamed to say. I spoke with the rep (who was very nice and polite) and he said that I was billed only for the full amount of the sale, no shipping. But I was confused because of the confirmation and shipping e-mails that I received from Michaels. I sent a screen shot of the e-mail that I received from them that showed the $12.70 charge in the Shipping category. As it turned out, Michaels shipping and confirmation e-mails show the breakdown of the price of each item, INCLUDING the tax on each item. The $12.70 was for one of the items, with tax included. Why it showed up in shipping, without listing the actual product, is beyond me. But in any case, I calculated the total of all the items, including the $12.70, and it came to the amount that I paid originally for the order. All items have arrived safe and sound. I did want to post and let everyone know that everything worked out OK, in case someone here is thinking of purchasing anything from Michaels online.

I know I mess up with stuff like this on occasion. It also sounds like Michaels messed up on the invoice. Glad you got your items at the right price. ETA: We had a cooktop debacle happen in August and my husband has been dealing with it for 7 weeks. I am so glad I didn't have to deal with it. My job was to find a new double oven. I don't know how the man did it, but he got us the newer version of the cooktop ordered free of charge as well as the installation, taxes, and delivery taken care of for free. I would have just gotten frustrated and probably said a few choice words.
