DH and I were looking at tickets to see George Strait and Chris Stapleton in Ames IA. Picked some seats and went to check out. Our 2 225.00 tickets (which in itself is kind of ridiculous) would have been 548.00. 98.00 in taxes and fees.
Needless to say, we clicked the close button. We did check some of the resale sites and are going to keep checking to see if there is something more affordable come available. The show isn't until May of 2024.
I am all for a company to make a profit, but that is outrageous. How do people afford to go to concerts?

If it’s not a concert that is expected to sell out in minutes, I’ll go to the venue and purchase directly. I believe all venues are required to sell tickets in a manner that allows people to avoid those fees. Even if the venue isnt super close, I’ll still make the drive. The inconvenience is always worth the fee. I get annoyed that I still have to pay a ‘facility fee, but it’s still way cheaper than Ticketmaster.

Yup, they are complete bullshit. They can double the price of tickets.
It is insane

That's insane, and infuriating! How on earth can people afford to go to concerts?! I am very glad that Ticketmaster Australia doesn't do that. The most we have to pay is small (about $7) handling charge.
ETA: I just checked the order from my most recent concert, and the tickets were $130 each, plus a $7.30 handling charge.

Definitely insane. When we have events here like Disney on Ice, I always wonder how in the world a family can afford to attend such events. I know I have closed out before when I refused to pay the fees because the cost of the ticket and the fees was just not worth it to me.

We bought tickets to Garth Brooks Residency in Vegas, We bought them November 2022... Tickets were $569.00 a ticket...... Fee for each ticket $105.00 and tax was $51.21 for the grand total of $725.21 PER TICKET for a concert that is in December 2023. Imagine the interest they are also earning on that money I have given them!
George Straight our tickets were 265.00 and 36.15 per ticket (surprised there) (In Detroit)
Luke Combs 2 day ticket was 420.00 with a few of 84.25 (in Buffalo)
We have a local large theater district and the local collage is doing Avenue Q, tickets are 20.00, but the fees are 10.00 a ticket (and this is their site, not ticketmaster) I'm making the drive to get those tickets!

My sister and I were going to go to the same concert until we saw the fees tacked on and said NOPE. Its is absolutely ridiculous. I've always wanted to see George Straight too.

Ticketmaster is why I rarely go to concerts anymore. I DO have a membership to one of our localish concert venues and along with that membership comes the ability to buy tickets without the extra padding of fees. Some seasons it pays off more than others, but at least I don't get hopping mad anytime I want to buy tickets from there.

BUT I will say that is an amazing concert.

StubHub is just as bad. My football tickets had a $35 fee on each one.

I made reservations for Great Wolf Lodge (hotel/water park) for this coming weekend for five of us. The rooms are expensive - I knew that going in - but was shocked at the numerous add-on resort fees/taxes!

Agree! We are going to see Pink and Brandi Carlile tomorrow night and the ticket fees were outrageous. We almost never go to stadium shows for this reason.
Next week we’re seeing All Time Low at a much smaller venue, and both the ticket price and the fees were much more reasonable. I prefer a smaller venue anyway where you can be closer to the act without payout $1000 ticket prices to do it.

In my avatar is a pic from when I took my oldest to her first hockey game. Minor league, so seats were an inexpensive $10 each. I looked online and the fees cost more than the ticket! Some-the-hell-how the total costed over $40.
So I took a drive over to the arena and bought them myself. I don't think I even paid taxes; just gave them a $20 bill.

Not sure how many more chances I will get to see George Straight... and then you add on Chris Stapleton (and for us, Little Big Town) I find the 265.00 price not so bad 89.00 for each performer. I think we paid about the same for Billy Joel and Stevie Nicks this summer

I bought 6 tickets to see George at Jack Trice. I am so excited! I just clicked to buy 4 tickets, sitting out in the middle of my pasture checking fences, when my DH texted me "Get 6" ... so back in I went and got two more.
I agree - the fee's are nuts! This will be the 3rd time I have seen George. I am excited for Chris Stapleton and Little Big Town too... but my biggest fear is rain! First stadium concert in Ames since the late 80's. I hope the Cyclone Weather Alert is just for George, not an actual tornado.
I think I would pee my pants if they did an actual Cyclone Alert for him. Seriously, it is so exciting at football games, I almost cry! LOL Is that nuts or what!

The fees put me off buying a lot of tickets. The ones that get me are the fees for something where no actual tickets are issued and it's open seating, so all they have to do is keep track of how many are sold, but you're still paying a gazillion dollars for all these administrative fees. Yeah, it's a grumpy old lady fact about me, but so be it.
And even when the fee isn't a huge amount dollar wise, but is a huge amount percentage wise, I get really grumpy. Tickets for my daughter's athletics games are now $5 each (to sit on aluminum risers, not even bleachers) and you have to pay a $4 fee on each ticket. They don't have a cutoff on how many people (it's partially outside, so people often just stand out on the lawn) and no tickets are physically issued. There is someone from the school who volunteers to scan the QR code, and that's it. And I certainly understand that hardware and software cost money and that there are people behind the scenes that deserve an income, but paying literally an 80% fee seems out of line.

agreed, the fees are outrageous. we like to go to sporting events. the tix are expensive enough and then you add the TM fees and it's like paying for a mini vacation.

Still all if the production value of a Pink show but also some sets that just let her voice shine. Brandi was also excellent (first time seeing her) and her genuine joy on stage was contagious. Have fun!!
