I have a 10.5YO and a 5YO cat.
Went into the guest bathroom a bit ago and man did it stink in there. I’m like OMG I have got serious sewer problems. Pulled back the shower curtain and one of the girls had pooped in the tub. Not a “desperate, I can’t make it to the litter box poop” but just a regular old poop. 😲
Neither of these girls has ever defecated outside the litter box, ever.
Nothing is different in our household. Other than each having a chronic health issue that does not affect their digestive systems, both are healthy. Both were in for their annual checkup less than 2 months ago.
So, what prompted this?
And please share your weird cat things so my two don’t seem quite so weird. Thanks! 😉

My 15 year old cat in my avatar wakes me up at 5am by sitting on my pillow and howling. When I get up, he dives under the covers to steal my warm spot. And he goes to sleep.

No advice re cats. My mother's cats like to hide in her lazy Susan in her corner kitchen cabinet. They are siblings and will run to it together whenever she opens it. The first time it happened she had the entire neighborhood out looking for them. She was convinced they had gotten out of her house.

How much time do you have?

I got home from vacation on Sunday early afternoon. Chloe dropped in on the cats periodically through the week. But they were primarily alone. My cat Maggie yelled at me all evening Sunday and all day yesterday. Finally today she is quiet and sleeping in my bed. But she was so angry we left her.

I have one that is a door dasher, and slides into closets (or out into my building's hallway) when I open the door. I've gone through the same experience as your mother more times than I can remember.

Weird things done by our cats? How much time do you have? Right? My cat, (we think she's around 8) likes to wake me in the morning by rattling books off the bookshelf in my bedroom. I keep OLD books on the bottom shelf because she pokes holes in the spine to shake them around.

Does she knock them off, or just move them around?

We had a cat who would sneak out the back door sometimes. Before we had even missed him, we’d hear a knocking at the front storm door. The silly boy was standing on his hind legs and knocking his front feet against the glass causing the whole door to move and make a knocking noise.
We’d open the door and he would come on with his tail all fluffed out. He’s look at us like “Don’t you know I’m SCARED of outdoors?”
This is also the cat who didn’t need a litter box because he used the toilet. He loved to wear dog sweaters. He enjoyed getting a bath, walking around in chest high water in the tub. And he played fetch with his favorite catnip mouse.

The mischievous guy in my avatar has a thing about opening cabinets and unloading the contents, then leaving the cabinet open for me to see. He thinks it's fun. Cat. get a hobby!
I love all cats.

Vinny loves it when I print something. Even if he’s down in the basement, if he hears the printer, he comes running. He then sits on the credenza riveted. When the paper starts coming out, he sticks his paw into the paper feed.
He LOVES it when people come into the house. We had a guy working on the furnace in the basement. We started hearing “Cut it out!” from him. Vinny was apparently batting at his tools trying to get the guy to play.
The plumbers who came over a couple of weeks ago had to lock him out of the bathroom because he kept trying to “help”.
And when we remodeled our bathroom, the workers noticed he had crawled into an open space in the subfloor right before they were going to seal it up.

I had a Siamese cat who loved cantaloupe. I had to give her the first cut piece otherwise she would literally climb my leg!
Another one who loved ice cream cycles...

Hmm... I mean, most things Bess does are weird.
However, one of my favorite stories will always be from the apartment we were living in when we brought her home. DH was in the kitchen (probably making coffee). He turns to get something out of the drawer and notices one of them moving in and out. He thought the apartment was haunted until he realized Bessie was pawing at the drawer while sitting in the cabinet below it.
She's a goober and gets herself into places she shouldn't be, but we love her. She also waits for me outside the door when I'm in the bathroom. Occasionally I'll hear her batting at the cabinet under the bathroom sink. There is literally nothing in there for her (unless she wants 28 rolls of TP). She knows how to get into the cabinets in the kitchen, but if they close behind her, she's clueless. She's started pawing at the Ikea shelves we have that have doors, but I think they're just a pinch too heavy for her to actually open.

My kitty doesn't do anything too strange, but my grandkitty is a nut. She thinks she's a dog and loves belly rubs and playing fetch.
She was visiting over the weekend and was walking on my computer while I was trying to work. DD moved a chair next to me and put Ivy in it and there she stayed, advising me on my briefs!

Sputnik likes to be rolled with the lint roller. Like, full kitty bliss…lol.
Hubble knows how to open my sewing room door. I had to put a lock on it to keep him out. He also tucks himself into his favorite blanket on the couch. So it’s never safe to assume that a throw blanket is “unoccupied” around here.
Kepler requires you to throw a single piece of kibble down the hallway, every time you feed them, so she can chase it, “kill” it and gobble it down. Lol

I have a mother and son cat. Whenever I take mama cat to the vet, the other cat doesn’t recognize her and hisses and growls at her for about 2 days. He doesn’t do this if he is the one that goes to the vet. I guess vet smells on her freaks him out or something.
Yesterday, I took them both at the same time. He stopped hissing & growling at her today but is still giving her the stink eye.

Oh, you all are making me feel so much better about some of the weird things my cats do. disneypal, I feel your pain about the “after the vet” irritation. Over the last year or so (lots of vet visits) my two will act like they’re going to literally kill each other. It is awful. The first time it lasted for a couple of months. The vet was involved with trying to help us out with it, I thought I was going to have to rehome one of them and I had to keep them separated. This last vet visit, thankfully they got over the worst of it in less than a week. Progress 🙄 I guess. Cats are weird.

My cats have morning and night routines! If I’m not awake my one cat will come real close to me while I’m sleeping at just stare at me. It’s quite startling to wake up too lol!
My other cat will scratch mirrors and tv while looking at himself through the reflection, thus why he is put away if we are gone.
Cats are funny and these two brothers are! We never had cats like them before.

Dusty (2) doesn't like to be cold...in the cooler weather he will snuggle under the covers at night and during the day, he'll wiggle his way under my sweater etc...to take a nap (while I'm wearing it). He knows his name and unlike most cats, will actually come when called most of the time -often with a cute little warble sound. He likes to keep track of where I am and will follow me when I switch rooms
Pad-Bear(2) likes to wrap around DH's ankles for petting - she tends to hold on rather tight but thankfully only when he's wearing jeans most of the time. She's also not the most agile of kitties - she's quite nervous about jumping up on stuff and stands and considers the distance carefully before making the attempt.
Mini(13) is determined that he's one of the kittens and since we adopted them, has mimicked their voices and re-discovered playing with toys. He desperately wants to play with them but Pad-Bear will have no part of it. Everytime he's close enough to Dusty though, he'll grooom him on the top of the head...ever since Dusty was a tiny 8oz 5-week old kitten - we always say that Mini knows that you have to keep kittens clean. He did try it once with Pad-Bear and she hissed indignantly and he's not been brave enough to try again.
Tabby who passed earlier this year was our Parkour kitty - he would sleep on the back of dining room chair, the top of the (flat-screen) TV, the peaked roof of the kitty scratching house...all sorts of spots that didn't look comfortable.

Does she knock them off, or just move them around? She will eventually pull them off. It's so annoying. In a particularly bad week she will pull several off, so I leave them in a pile for a few days, and then she'll stop. Such a stinker.
