What vintage images need to be retired by scrapbook manufacturers?
My first pick (ha! accidental pun) would be apples to represent school. Hate them. So, so outdated and have absolutely nothing to do with teaching anymore. I think apples should be banned from all school paper collections.
I have a few more but I would like to read what really bugs other people.

Besides my constant complaining about the little red schoolhouse?
Cooking lines that are farm life based and/or look like an episode of Leave it to Beaver. I don't wear an apron, cook on a vintage stove, own a rooster that stands on a pig that stands on a cow...

When you mentioned that apples "bug" you, artbabe, it made me think of BUGS... I like butterfly pp and other elements, but can we drop the beetles and moths and other creepy crawlies? a rooster that stands on a pig that stands on a cow... That image drives me crazy... I also would like to see the "vintage" images--which, sorry, Tim, are probably photographs of someone's deceased relatives. I don't see myself ever using that type of image on anything I put together.

that's funny about the apples. i think apples, red school houses, and some 50's images were designed by people who actually lived through those days or grew up with those images being very prevalent. i think as the SB designers get younger, more modern images will dominate.

I would like to see VW buses removed from all lines, especially travel and "everyday" type collections. I have at least a couple dozen VW buses that I've thrown away over the years.

I dig apples for representing school, learning, teaching. It’s iconic. Apples are cute. A little pop of red. I can always make them work.
I get tired of palm trees to represent summer. And really most beach motifs are not my jam.

Typewriters. Unless there’s a paper in it for journaling it’s not going on my page. Ever.
I agree with the school houses, apples, bells, etc in school lines.
Bells in wedding lines. Yeah, I know, wedding bells but really? My first wedding was in a restaurant and my second was in a home. No bells to be heard.

My biggest gripe with collections featuring vintage images is extreme lack of diversity. My ethnically diverse family has ancestors too.
I was also eyeing some pieces from Prima’s vintage Christmas collection for a couple of layouts until I became really turned off by its lack of diversity.
I understand some of the nuances that contribute to this outcome but I am still bothered by it. There are many culturally diverse beautiful vintage images that fit Prima’s color palette. Why not use them or create new ones?
Is asking for a couple of papers with diverse images in each line too much?

Old-fashioned trucks with pumpkins in the back in every single fall collection! Byeeeeee Yes! These tired old pickup trucks seem to pop up at almost every holiday and season change hauling the matching icons. Time for the junk yard.

I wish designers would stop putting people of any kind on products - paper, stickers, chipboard, etc. It’s weird. I don’t need a photo of a boy camping to put on my LO of MY boy camping. I never use them, and don’t use the papers either. I’d rather let the people in my photos be the star of the page. I have so many unused products with people icons. 🙄🙄 My only exception is Santa, and even then there are waayyy too many Santa images in a single collection.

I have never liked or bought any of the vintage lines. I just don't get it. Like above posters mentioned why do I want a picture of someone doing the exact thing my picture depicts? What's with the stupid truck hauling Christmas trees or pumpkins? Basically anything that looks like Graphic 45 is an instant turn off for me. I realize I'm in the minority in the scrapbook demographic with that opinion.
I'd like some camping and lake lines that are colorful but don't have vintage canoes, campers, or smores so heavily represented. Some fall lines to represent taking the family to the pumpkin patch would be great. Less fall lines containing random cartoon animals, while cute, I just don't really find a way to use them. No typewriters, VW buses, hot air balloons, etc.

I have that sheet of October Afternoon Midway with the rows and rows of black and white photos of real people and can't figure out how the heck to use it. I can sometimes make the cartoonier images work, but not very often.

I also agree we don’t need Santa overdone in a single collection. I’d be happy with one sheet of any of the papers with Santa all over it as long as they vary the shade of his skintone on some of them. My scrapbooks are part journal, part scrapbook. When I use images on my scrapbook pages it’s usually cute cartoon-like ephemera depicting things we aren’t doing in the pictures, yet go with the theme. I’m more likely to use printed images on journaling pages that aren’t photo heavy and lean more towards art journaling than scrapbooking. I guess I like using scrapbooks for cohesiveness on my shelves but they’re all a mix of art journaling, scrapbooking, and photo pages.

I am quite happy with that layout, too. I'll try to dig it out and post it. I love, love, love that Midway collection. One of my favorite of all time.

Not a lot really "bugs" me I guess. I do agree that there needs to be more representation of the diversity that is our lives. Whether for family, friends, neighbors, co-workers. And I totally agree with grammadee about the vintage "relative" prints from Tim Holtz's line. While they're interesting, I have my own relatives and sketchy ancestors that I'll use instead of strangers. Another thoughtful question artbabe.
