I need a new printer, and I think this time I want to finally get a large format printer. I would like to print pictures at home, so print quality is pretty important to me. I would prefer one that doesn’t go through ink super fast. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I prefer Epson printers. I have both a large format and the PM400 photo size printers, and they both are great.

My choice would be the Epson Eco Tank 8550. It has a maximum size of 13x19 and being an eco tank printer the ink is quite inexpensive. I bought the regular size 8500 in May of 2022 and I print all the time, photos, things for scrapbooking and tumbler making, recipes, homework, etc. I am still only about halfway through the included ink. I think the photo quality is amazing on it too using the Epson photo papers.

Definitely Epson. From my IT professional standpoint, they are the gold standard of inkjet printers, and I echo what chaosisapony says about an ecotank printer, the ink is a lot cheaper than a standard printer.

I’m glad I asked here, because I was mostly looking at the Canon printers, but it looks like Epson might be the way to go. I never even considered the eco tank printers, because I assumed that they were more for quantity printing over quantity. It’s good to know that they produce good photos also. Thanks so much for your responses, you’ve gave me some really helpful direction!

Also, I already know that I love my Picture Mate, so it might be nice to stick with the same brand in a larger printer.

I have the 8550 after having the canon TS 9521c. I love the epson. I was meh on the canon. I was actually happy it broke and I could splurge on the epson.

Liz Tamanaha (Paislee Press) also uses and recommends the Epson 8550. It's on my Christmas list!

It sounds like a fantastic printer. It is pricier than what I was planning for, so I’m going to put it on my Christmas list as well, and maybe Santa will get it for me if I’m lucky!🤞🏻😂

The price kept going up and up until it was well over MSRP. Eventually I got fed up with the printer I had and just bought it. I paid too much for it but I don't even care. It's great and has yet to disappoint me. I think you'll be happy with the 8550. I hope Santa hands it over for Christmas!

I’ve had both Epson and Canon printers. I loved my Epson printers. My large format printer was an Epson, but I found that I didn’t really use the large format that often. When we got our last printer, the store rep steered us to the Canon, and said it printed better photos. My Canon printer does fine, but I felt the Epson printers did a better job for most things.

I’ve lusted after a wide format printer but couldn’t justify the occasional use it would get (I have a regular size Epson and the picture mate).
We recently moved outside the city and DSO will be working from home more and needed a wide format so purchased an Epson. I’m sure he’ll let me use it 😉
