Retired US District Judge Mary Trump Barry has passed away. She didn't get to enjoy her retirement. So sad... But she avoided the alleged inheritance tax issues.. Her retirement came amid an investigation into whether she violated judicial conduct rules by committing tax fraud following reporting from The New York Times that alleged the former president and his siblings utilized tax schemes to inflate their inheritances. A disclosure form from Barry’s Senate confirmation that presented a $1 million contribution from a Trump family-owned company reportedly played a vital – though inadvertent – role in uncovering the alleged fraud. Because she retired, the investigation into Barry closed, leaving her entitled to an annual retirement salary and free from judicial rebuke. Her attorney denied the allegations. Donald Trump’s rise in politics would soon bring further attention to his family. Though Barry never spoke publicly about disagreements with her brother, audio excerpts from conversations between Barry and her niece, Mary Trump, obtained by CNN in 2020 unveiled Barry delivering sharp criticism of the then commander-in-chief. The Washington Post first obtained the previously unreleased transcripts and audio from Mary Trump. www.cnn.com/2023/11/13/politics/maryanne-trump-barry-dies/index.html

SCOTUS has adopted their own code of ethics! Surprise! Details coming up .. wonder if it only covers new people or those already sitting? *** Carry on as usual!! *** The 14-page code is signed by each of the justices on the Supreme Court. "The absence of a Code ... has led in recent years to the misunderstanding that the Justices of this Court, unlike all other jurists in this country, regard themselves as unrestricted by any ethics rules," an introductory statement reads. "To dispel this misunderstanding, we are issuing this Code, which largely represents a codification of principles that we have long regarded as governing our for such a code of conduct began with reports that Thomas failed to disclose deluxe vacations, rides on private jets and a “rock star” R.V. from conservative donors who include Harlan Crow and the Koch brothers. "The justices vow to uphold “the integrity and independence” of the court, avoid impropriety, conduct court business fairly and steer clear of extrajudicial activities that detract from the Supreme Court’s dignity. www.rawstory.com/supreme-court-code-of-conduct/

The classy Republicans… Aaron Rupar… ”Rep. Tim Burchett claims on CNN that Kevin McCarthy hit him from behind with "a clean shot to the kidneys" and calls him "a bully" “Burchett says he's still in pain from McCarthy hitting him and adds: "I just don't expect a guy who was at one time three steps away from the White House to hit you with a sucker punch in the hallway." x.com/atrupar/status/1724463755759620278?s=61&t=j45uMgNk1i8O0YllKF58nwA response and he may have a point… ”Kevin McCarthy’s action warrants a censure vote.”

“Mullin and O’Brien, the leader of the major union International Brotherhood of Teamsters, have a history of combative moments — Mullin, a hard-right conservative, has repeatedly challenged O’Brien to physical fights. Important to note.. Justin Woolfers…. ”The past five core inflation readings have been remarkably good: June: +0.2% July: +0.2% August: +0.3% Sept: +0.3% Oct: +0.2% If monthly inflation is 0.2% half the time, and 0.3% the other half, that yields an annualized inflation rate of three percent.” Point is, the press reports on inflation *over the past year*, and core inflation over the past year is 4.1%. But that includes a lot of stale data from many months ago. Focus on the most recent few months, and you'll see core inflation is running at around a 3% annual rate. Inflation is such a closely watched indicator that last month's mild uptick led to a lotta hand-wringing. This month better number easily undoes that. Reality: Data are noisy The underlying trend is inflation returning to near normal. There's an odd technical piece to all this. We measure the cost of housing for homeowners using something called owner's equivalent rent (OER), which we understand to have been falling. It (surprisingly!) popped last month to +0.6%, but fell back to normal this month at 0.4%. Here's the story that the year-ended core inflation rate (of 4.1% is hiding: Over the past six months, core CPI has risen at an annualized rate of 3.2%, down from 4.8% over the previous six months. The CPI tends to run about a quarter point faster than the Fed's preferred PCE inflation measure. So if core CPI is running at 3%, core PCE is probably running at about two-point-something-percent. And we know good news is coming in declining rent inflation over coming months. Today's low inflation reading definitely reduces (a lot!) the chances of the Fed raising rates at its next meeting. It's not a slam dunk though, because there's one more inflation report (Dec 12) that arrives before its next meeting.“ x.com/justinwolfers/status/1724433830860276002?s=61&t=j45uMgNk1i8O0YllKF58nw

Today in Congress besides one member “elbowing” another member of the House and a Senator at a committee meeting calling out a witness. We now have this. Stephen Neukam… “You look like a smurf," Comer says to Moskowitz” Besides Comer insulting a witness he also continues to lie. Aaron Rupar.. “That is bullshit" -- an angry James Comer just profanely denied reports that he loaned his brother during a House hearing. @jaredemoskowitz fired back, "your word means nothing Mr. Chairman ... perhaps you should sit maybe for a deposition." (1/2) Here's James Comer's full meltdown under questioning from @jaredemoskowitz. Republicans are going through some things today. x.com/atrupar/status/1724491921660186714?s=61&t=j45uMgNk1i8O0YllKF58nwAcyn… “Comer goes from saying the LLC he says he financially disclosed isn’t a shell company to “I don’t have an LLC””

It’s somewhat amusing to watch the Republicans make fools of themselves but I would be remiss if I didn’t point out the government could shutdown at the end of the week if the Republicans don’t get their shit together.

You think?? Honestly, that gives children a bad name. My kid is in her third year of middle school and she hasn’t come home with a single report of a fight between kids at her school yet. It seems even kids today are better behaved than some of the elected representatives of our government. What a joke.

🤡 And the clown show in the House continues….
This from Kyle Griffin..
”Republican Tim Burchett is accusing Kevin McCarthy of elbowing him in the kidneys as Burchett passed in a Capitol hallway. Burchett voted to oust McCarthy as Speaker.
"I was standing there and McCarthy elbowed me in the back," Burchett told reporters after the encounter.”
Got this response also from Kyle Griffin…
”Matt Gaetz has now filed an ethics complaint against Kevin McCarthy for this incident.”🤡
Which prompted this response…
”Matt Gaetz weighing in on ethics is the height of Republican hypocrisy. 😂”

You have the President of the United States, the Vice President and soon the president of China in San Francisco. I hope the security is tight. I know police officers from the various surrounding cities are providing security in SF. As I’m sure the Secret Service and other agencies are. Boy I’m sure glad I’m not working in the Financial District anymore. Although the way my old company has changed its posture on working from home I’m sure I would have been working from home this week. This is NOT good news! Fani Willis says trial will not be finished by the election, maybe not until begining of 2025... Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis revealed Tuesday that she does not expect Donald Trump's election interference case to wrap up until after the 2024 election. Willis made the remarks in an interview at The Washington Post Live's Global Women's Summit. But she said she did expect the trial to go forward. "I believe in that case there will be a trial," she remarked. "I believe the trial will take many months. And I don't expect that we will conclude until the winter or the very early part of 2025." www.rawstory.com/there-will-be-a-trial-fani-willis-says-trump-s-trial-won-t-conclude-before-election/

So in spite of the 🤡 show in the House today they managed to do this….
ABC News…
”BREAKING: House passes Speaker Mike Johnson's plan to avert a government shutdown just days ahead of a Friday deadline. The vote passed 336-95. trib.al/EwiyVse”
I wonder how much longer he’ll be Speaker because he needed the Democrats help to pass this bill. And that’s a no no for some Republicans.

Mullin: We looked into the rules. You used to be able to cane. Andrew Jackson challenged 9 guys to a duel.. And so at the end of the day, there is presence for it.

Keith Olbermann..
”This @senmullin is a dipshit
The caning to which he refers nearly killed a senator, and hastened the civil war.
Next time Senator Bullshit should ask somebody who graduated high school before he garbles history and makes a jackass out of himself - again”
