And this is one example of how some older politicians are out of touch and why it's important for younger generations to be represented in Washington. This Republican is the CFO for the State of Florida. He's only 51 but definitely out of touch if he thinks broadcast TV and radio stations are an effective way to alert people in an emergency. How out of touch can you be? Most people stream tv and many don’t listen to radios over the air. We still have cable but we also stream a lot and have satellite radios or stream our music. If a real emergency were to occur this would be the way to reach the most people. That said my phone which is identical to my husband’s and on the same account in the same house didn’t go off today while his did. At 50 years of age you should know that a lot of people would miss out if only on radio or broadcast tv. A lot of people don’t watch the news either. We have new technology and while it would have been impossible a decade ago today we can reach nearly everyone with this current system. I admit I was a bit anxious about the whole thing and then it was basically nothing. My husband’s phones quickly quit making noise when he picked them up. Would love to know why I never got the alert but at least everyone else in the house got it.

Just another responsible gun owner, an Republican elected official from Texas . .. Michael Gardner, who reportedly serves as a commissioner in Ector County, Texas, was trying to signal the beginning of his nephew's wedding with the firearm, according to the Washington Post's report. "Michael Gardner wanted to start his nephew’s wedding with a bang," the outlet reported Wednesday. "His plan involved shooting a blank from a revolver into the air to signal to the roughly 200 people gathered on Saturday that the outdoor ceremony, which he was officiating, was about to begin. But when Gardner cocked back the hammer of the gun, it slipped, and the homemade blank that he had used, which was closed off with glue, fired from the Pietta 1860 snub-nose revolver that he had borrowed, he said." "As the bride was about to walk down the aisle, what was supposed to be a day of love in Denton, Neb., turned into one of unexpected panic: The wedding officiant accidentally shot his 12-year-old grandson in the shoulder," the report states. "Despite the shooting, Gardner finished officiating the wedding." www.rawstory.com/gop-accidental-shooting/

Well duh. The Right has no interest in “fixing” immigration. It’s to good of a weapon to use against the Democrats.
Paul Waldman….
”What if Republicans don't actually want to fix the immigration system, but instead like things as they are just fine?
Corporations get an exploitable labor pool and the GOP gets a tool to keep its base angry and afraid. Everybody wins!”

Thanks onelasttime. This took me to the full article.. It shows the dishonesty of the republicans. Actually more about McCarthy's overall character!! And they are angry to Democrats didn't back them up to save McCarthy?! People close to the president considered McCarthy a fickle and unpredictable partner. When McCarthy met with Biden in person, he typically presented himself as a sober negotiator, clear-eyed about the give-and-take of bipartisan governance. Then he would go out in public and brag about his refusal to bend on conservative demands. On a particularly sensitive matter, McCarthy mocked Biden’s age and mental acuity in public, while privately telling allies that he found the president sharp and substantive in their conversations — a contradiction that left a deep impression on the White House. McCarthy’s willingness to sign off on an impeachment inquiry without holding a vote was seen as a cynical ploy that sapped any goodwill among Biden’s closest advisers. The decision to renege on a debt ceiling deal he brokered directly with Biden, meanwhile, signaled his hold over those in his own party was waning. If the White House took a dim view of McCarthy’s character, Biden and his aides also believed they had more or less figured out how to maneuver around him — dismissing much of his public bluster as showmanship meant to keep his right flank in line and maintaining a narrow, businesslike relationship with him behind closed doors. www.politico.com/news/2023/10/04/white-house-mccarthy-downfall-00119933

The gauntlet has been thrown...... Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX) said he would officially nominate former President Donald Trump as the next Speaker of the House "to make Congress great again." "So, obviously, Donald Trump is the leader of our party," he said. "We need to embrace that. We need, as a conference, a Republican conference to bring Donald Trump into the fold and let him continue to lead us as the American people, as the Republican Party has chosen Donald Trump. He will be our nominee. I think it just makes sense." www.rawstory.com/gop-rep-troy-nehls-it-s-done-i-am-nominating-donald-j-trump-for-speaker-of-the-house/

Words we missed from TFG speech the other night.. BAD language.. Making light of his mounting legal troubles during his bombastic speech, Trump said his four indictments, and 91 criminal charges, are nothing more than political hit-jobs.
'What they've done is they've gone after opponents, so that if you become president, or some other job, but if you become president, and you don't like somebody or somebody is beating you by 10, 15, or 20 points, like we're doing with crooked Joe Biden - let's indict the motherf***er!' he said.
The moment was met with big laughs from his Republican friendly crowd. But others have said Trump's use of a word widely-regarded as the second most-vulgar in the English language is unbecoming and beneath a man seeking re-election as president.

Finally, some good news. Really wish the Supreme Court did not keep the 1 majority black district in place for the 2022 election. The chaos in the Hosue would be non-existent with just a few more Democrats. www.nytimes.com/2023/10/05/us/politics/alabama-congressional-map-democrat-seat.htmlAlabama Is Ordered to Use a Congressional Map With Two Seats Democrats Can Win The new district map is a remedy to Alabama’s illegal dilution of Black voting power, and may lead to the election of two Black representatives for the first time in the state’s history.
A federal court ordered Alabama on Thursday to use a new congressional map that could lead the state to elect two Black representatives for the first time in its history, by creating a second district with close to a majority of Black voters.
The order, the culmination of a nearly two-year fight over the Republican-dominated state’s illegal dilution of Black voting power, could also see Democrats pick up a seat in the state, at a moment when Republicans control the House of Representatives by a thin margin.
A three-judge panel of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama approved a map that increases the percentage of Black voters in one of the state’s six majority-white congressional districts to 48.7 percent, up from about 30 percent, while preserving the state’s one existing majority-Black district.
“This is an unequivocal win that will translate to increased opportunities for those who have too long been denied the fair representation they deserve,” the group of Black voters who brought the case said in a joint statement released by the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, which has helped the voters sue the state. “Though a long, hard-fought battle, we are grateful to have achieved this key measure and look forward to building a better future for Alabama voters,” the statement said.

With a lot of folks I would have a hard time believing stuff like this. But not with trump because he NEEDS to do stuff like this to make himself feel important because of his fragile ego. Kyle Griffin… ”Breaking ABC: Months after leaving office, Trump allegedly discussed potentially sensitive information about U.S. nuclear submarines with a member of Mar-a-Lago — an Australian billionaire who then allegedly shared the information with scores of others.” ”According to billionaire Anthony Pratt's account, as described by the sources, Pratt told Trump he believed Australia should start buying its submarines from the United States, to which an excited Trump -- "leaning" toward Pratt as if to be discreet -- then told Pratt two pieces of information about U.S. submarines: the supposed exact number of nuclear warheads they routinely carry, and exactly how close they supposedly can get to a Russian submarine without being detected.” x.com/kylegriffin1/status/1710035927026766001?s=61&t=j45uMgNk1i8O0YllKF58nwAdded Jim Sciutto…. “There is no more sensitive intelligence to the U.S., Russia and China today than that relating to submarine capabilities and detection.”

In those interviews, Pratt described how -- looking to make conversation with Trump during a meeting at Mar-a-Lago in April 2021 -- he brought up the American submarine fleet, which the two had discussed before, the sources told ABC News. abcnews.go.com/US/after-white-house-trump-allegedly-discussed-potentially-sensitive/story?id=103760456

Are we sad for Rudy? Former President Donald Trump's close associate Rudy Giuliani has had a lien placed on his home by the Internal Revenue Service over $550,000 in unpaid taxes, reported The Daily Mail on Thursday. "The IRS placed a lien on Giuliani's penthouse in Palm Beach, just three miles north of former President Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence," reported Jose Lambiet, noting that this allows the agency to seize some of the profits on any sale of the property. "Records show Giuliani bought the three-bedroom, 2,000-sqft condo with then-wife Judith Nathan for $1.4million cash in February 2010," the report continued. "Nathan signed the condo over to Rudy after their 2019 divorce, according to records. Neither Giuliani nor his regular spokesman Ted Goodman immediately responded to a request for comment." All of this comes amid reports that Giuliani, a former federal prosecutor and mayor of New York City, is in financial dire straits, as legal fees and lawsuits pile up against him. Giuliani's problems are further compounded as the attorney representing him in the Georgia election racketeering case has dropped him as a client. www.rawstory.com/irs-rudy-lien/

Jack Smith could call Pratt to testify on the facts.. Maggie, what more have you learned from your reporting?" asked anchor Anderson Cooper. We confirmed ... that Trump had this conversation with Mr. Pratt, who is a member of Mar-a-Lago not long after leaving office," said Haberman. "This was a conversation in which Trump supposedly revealed a couple of pieces of sensitive information. Now, it's not clear exactly what Trump said. We know that according to ABC, it was specifics about capabilities and about distance that the submarines can go and how close they can get in certain cases. This is not — it doesn't appear that he showed a document to this gentleman. I don't know for prosecutors that that matters, because our understanding is he is among the trial witnesses who prosecutors have listed as possible people they will call. And what they would likely use him for is to establish a pattern of Trump being loose with sensitive information and the government's secrets." "So he might actually be called?" asked Cooper. "He is among dozens of people who might be called," said Haberman. ... . www.rawstory.com/trump-docs-member/

This is going to be a very long campaign. Ramaswamy claims people deliberately backed into his car. The police said NO! Ramaswamy’s campaign had said two protesters at an event in Grinnell, Iowa, had struck their rental vehicle, but police said a woman who had no connection to the protest had eaten lunch at a nearby deli and struck the car while backing out of a parking space, reported Politico. "[The driver] stated she was not in the area to protest, she did not know who the vehicle she struck belonged to, she did not intentionally back into the vehicle, and she did not flee the scene of the accident,” police said in a statement. Police filed a report and the driver was released with a summons for unsafe backing. www.rawstory.com/vivek-ramaswamy-iowa/
