I consider myself a very tech savvy person (I used to do tech support and server administration so I feel qualified to say I'm tech savvy! ) Anyway, when I do a print to cut file (I get all the images I want to print in the Silhouette software and print from the Silhouette) I can't seem to get the cutting mat in the right spot to cut the images out correctly. I do figure it out eventually (I just move the mat over and test cut to see if it cuts right) but the location of where I need to place the mat seems to change with each print to cut file. I also can't seem to ask the correct question via google so nothing that is pertinent comes up in my search. So, if you've made it this far and understand what I'm trying to ask, thank you and where do I put the darn cutting mat! I have an original Silhouette Portrait FYI.

It sounds like your cutter needs to be calibrated. I assume it’s the same for both Portrait and Cameo. I had to calibrate my Cameo. I may have had to repeat the process more than once (I can’t remember for sure, but it kind of seems like it). Since I calibrated it, my machine cuts exactly where it shows on the screen. Here is a video tutorial: How to calibrate your Silhouette for print and cut

Is it registering and then cutting incorrectly, or is it failing to register? If it is registering but not cutting correctly, then as scrapnnana said, you should calibrate your machine. When I got my Portrait, I ran into two issues when I tried Print Then cut: 1) I wasn't lining my paper on the mat in the correct spot (there's a marking for where 8.5"x11" paper should be on the top left hand corner of the mat) and 2) I was loading the mat into the machine improperly. I was using the wrong guide marking on the machine to load the mat and, not surprisingly, the machine couldn't read the registration marks. Since I figured that out, I haven't had any problems with Print then Cut.

Thank you! It's possible I wasn't lining it up correctly on the mat, I'll try that first before calibrating.

I'm embarrassed to admit that when I made the print & cut files I neglected to put the registration marks on it. I was looking at the paper I cut and noticed there weren't any registration marks on the paper so I looked at my saved files and no registration marks. It's a true PEBKAC error (problem exists between the keyboard & the chair). Thanks for your help!
