I think this is another spin off from the Card Summit. Received an email from Laurel Beard today, inviting me to sign up for 12 free card tutorials. I signed up. I have not started my Christmas cards yet. Thinking that watching a bunch of videos might spark some mojo...

I got the email from Justine Hovey who usually does the 12 Days on her YT channel. She made it sound like she was doing it as a summit this time with the free sign up, buy a VIP pass, etc etc. I wasn’t interested because I don’t usually get all that much value out of her videos, I just watch them in the background on YT. She didn’t make it sound like it was anything different than her usual videos so I got confused when I saw Jess Crafts mention something about doing it too, but I didn’t follow up on that. I guess it’s a group thing. Not sure why Justine made it sound like it was just her. Or maybe I read it wrong.

Or maybe I didn’t misunderstand. It looks like it is just Justine based on that link. ??
I get what she’s saying about only having 24 hours to watch to get people actually doing it right now, not just buying a class and maybe someday doing it, but I don’t want to be tied to watching on her schedule. And her teaching appeals to me less and less lately. I’ll just look at the thumbnails and get inspiration from that.
TBH I think most of us have more than enough IDEAS, we just need motivation to sit down and try them. I’m personally not going to get that from her.

More and more often I find her videos annoying to mildly infuriating, so easy pass.

Maybe she has pregnant woman smugness syndrome?

I really didn't like the attitude of either one of them during the summit they hosted last week (or 2 weeks ago). Many of the free ticket holders (including me) didn't get the welcome email with the necessary links. I guess people were complaining, because during the welcome video, they mentioned that there was a problem with their system. It was a very "too bad, so sad - you'll find it somehow" attitude. Then they sent an email every day with all the links, which is what they should have done in the first place.
During Laurel Beard's Q & A session, her answers were very "you do you," in a pretty snippy manner. Her videos are the same way. Justine Hovey just seemed to be all over the place and - yes, smug is the right word. Not enjoyable for me, so I'll pass on future events from them.

Just watched the first video. Love the card design and the colours (navy & gold). I don't have the exact supplies/dies she has, but the card design is do-able with what I have. I screen shotted a pic of it for future reference. Firefox didn't like the site for downloading the instruction sheet, but the photo should be enough for me. The video was short, basically assembling the card. She kept repeating that you could use her ideas with different colours &/or designs. For example, she did some foiling with the SB glimmer system, but suggested the same effect could be achieved with stamping and heat embossing. Not sure who her targeted audience is: tutorial was too fast for beginners, yet she kept encouraging people she felt may be afraid to try new things? mbanda and lindas, what was your take on this? Did you get a chance to watch it yet? If you didn't pay for VIP access the class and access to instructional sheets will be gone by tomorrow morning.

I did like the non-traditional Christmas colors she used with navy for her poinsettia. Overall, I didn't learn anything new but maybe she's starting with something more simple...as you mentioned the video was basically her just assembling the card and using the Glimmer machine. I do have a hot foiling machine so I liked the look overall of the card. I'll continue watching the series just because I like making Christmas cards so I'm always looking for ideas.

I thinks she likes to emphasize that you can use other methods and supplies because for a while she got very caught up with promoting product which was a big shift from her original make-do videos when she first started. I think she's trying to get back to make-do/use what you have but this is also income for her, so she's pulled in two different directions. Jenn McGuire is also always harping on use what you've got while promoting brand new products in every video, responding to criticism of that. Some people really do seem to need the push to take the idea and play around with it instead of just buying all the supplies, and she says she's trying to get people to sit down and make right now (which you can't do if you're waiting for supplies).

Navy and gold has always been one of my favorite color combos. I didn’t learn anything new but I will be adding that poinsettia set to my wish list for a future purchase since I’m pretty much done with my Christmas cards for this year. I will try something similar using some flower dies and a cover plate for a spring birthday card.

So day two wasn’t much different from day one, same colors, foiling and embossing folder instead of a background plate. I think Justine got a bit confused on her voice over, she starts by saying “welcome to day 12” but the video is clearly marked day two. I’m surprised she didn’t catch that before posting the video.

Just watched Day 3. I have just one of these plates and it’s not Christmas themed but I like the idea of putting coloured strips under it.

Finally got a chance to watch. If I ever decide to buy a piercing die plate then I might give the stripe idea a try.

Couldn't watch the video today without "signing in". I don't think I set up a password or anything when I requested my "ticket" to the free event.
I saved the photo of the card anyway. Nice simple design. I have some tiny Christmas tree dies from a Crop & Create event a year or two ago, and have at least two embossing folders for snowfall effect.

We didn’t have to setup a password, strange that you were asked for one. It’s a nice, simple card that I could easily recreate with what I have.

I didn’t even bother to watch today’s video, the picture of the card was enough. Based on her email today seems she’s getting negative feedback because of all the hot foiling. I can understand the frustration, not everyone has a hot foil system.
So far her tutorials haven’t been all that informative so it’s a good thing we didn’t have to pay for it.

I didn't watch it either. Hot foiled snowflakes & sentiments - got it. I don't really need to watch a video for that.

If I ever decide to buy a piercing die plate then I might give the stripe idea a try. I have just one of those piercing plates, and it's a general background, not the pretty poinsettias, but that technique is one I want to try with my plate. This is a reason to watch the videos, for little tips like that. Based on her email today seems she’s getting negative feedback because of all the hot foiling. I can understand the frustration, not everyone has a hot foil system I didn't notice the fact that this was based on three techniques. I have a Glimmer system, but don't use it much. Hoping to change that with my Christmas cards this year. But it isn't the ideas I am missing; more skill with the machine. No time to watch today's video, but I again saved the picture for future reference. I like the white-on-white with just the bit of foiling. I think the same effect could be achieved with a fine line stamp and bold ink, even without foiling or heat embossing.

Good tip today about double heating the plate for reverse foiling. My few attempts have not gone well. Also need to make sure I am working with super smooth cs, so maybe if I get those things right, I will have some success.

Also need to make sure I am working with super smooth cs, so maybe if I get those things right, I will have some success. That was a good tip. I have the solid full size plate and I knew that had to heat longer but never considered doing it for as long as she said. I usually only go about 3 mins. Another tip she didn’t mention is to dust off your paper and back of foil first. One speck of dust will cause a spot. Learned that from Nancy Stamps videos.

Did anyone else feel that today she tried too hard to get that perfect card? I much preferred the card right after she popped in the copper frame, before she started adding snowflakes. She could have stamped a greeting and maybe an evergreen bough on a small rectangle or circle and popped it up over the embossed pine cones.

She could have stamped a greeting and maybe an evergreen bough on a small rectangle or circle and popped it up over the embossed pine cones. I agree, the card didn’t need the snowflake. A simple sentiment over where she messed up the paper would have been sufficient. Since she was going to emboss a sheet of paper to cut the snowflake I don’t understand why she didn’t cut the frame out of that. Trying to emboss that frame after it was cut was more work then necessary.
