grammadee and CARDtober participants, it is my turn for another Outside the Box challenge, and this time around, I've chosen Pocket Cards. Instead of the traditional card opening, the card base is a pocket, and the recipient pulls out an insert from the pocket to read the message. I found the Picnic Basket Pocket Card on the Silhouette Design Store back in 2019. I was teaching card making to some friends in my home, and this is one of the cards that I helped my friends to make. After cutting out the pieces, I embossed the lower part of the basket with a basket weave embossing folder. I also embossed the flap of the envelope, and I stamped ants on the front lower right corner of the envelope as well as on the insert to the picnic basket. This is my favorite Pocket Card to make, and it probably will always be. I made two other Pocket Cards recently as samples for this challenge. I created the pumpkin pocket card with a large pumpkin card die from Queen & Co. I turned it into a pocket by cutting folded card stock, placing the bottom edge of the pumpkin die just beyond the fold, then cutting it out. I cut a second pumpkin to glue on top to cover the fold. I cut a third pumpkin that I trimmed down to make a skinny pumpkin that would slide inside the pocket. The Viewmaster pocket card was a Silhouette file. It was the quickest and easiest to make of the three pocket cards. The challenge is to make a pocket card. Give yourself 5 extra points if it is shaped, but a shaped pocket card is NOT required. The twist is to decorate the envelope by embossing the envelope flap OR to stamp a small design on the front of the envelope.

Such cute pocket cards, scrapnnana! And another fun challenge! I like the twist. I usually forget about decorating the envelope--and the middle of the card, too, TBH.

jjpeapea , your cake slice coming out of the whole cake is a brilliant idea, and I love it! The cupcake on the envelope is a perfect application of the twist. Thanks for joining in!

This challenge really stumped me! But I just remembered a card I made for last year’s Halloween swap was actually a pocket card, and it was the kind that used paper efficiently and could have a folded card attached to the back if you like cards that stand up/have plenty of space for writing like me and ShaktiI’ll share a link to last year’s project now so I remember to do a new version for this challenge! It’s just a piece of cardstock scored to fold up to make a small pocket, decorated with pp. I think I sized the pocket part so I could use a 2” pattern on the pocket and a 4” piece inside to stretch my Halloween paper. My pp was sturdy enough to be used for the insert without extra backing and wasn’t decorated because it was for the swap. I’ll be back with a 2023 version soon! http://instagram.com/p/CjoXtTJvYsU

joblackford, thank you for posting this! It’s fun and cute, and another great option for those who might have found my challenge a bit too challenging.

CARDtober participation is entirely voluntary, and my feelings aren’t hurt if anyone chooses not to participate in this challenge, or any other that I post.
I have been concerned, though, that my challenges may be a bit difficult for some because not everyone has the right tools.
For those who would like to try this challenge (NO pressure!), but don’t have a larger or suitable die or electronic cutter, here is an alternative:
Find an outline of a recognizable shape you like on the internet, print it, and trace it onto folded card stock, with the bottom of the shape hanging over the folded edge so that part doesn’t cut. Glue the edges, or fold a thin piece of card stock of the same color as your shape, and glue it between the edges on one side of your folded shape. Repeat with the other side. This will create your pocket. Decorate as desired.
A pocket card can be displayed on a small easel (available at Dollar Tree if you have one near you), but it doesn’t stand on it’s own.
For those on a team, there is usually a big bonus for those who complete all 31 card challenges. If anyone participating is on a team, I don’t want you unable to complete a challenge or miss out on those extra bonus points just because you don’t have the tools to create it.
Again, participation is not required, and I don’t want anyone to feel pressured, but for those who would like to try this challenge, this gives you an “old school” option.
