Well, that changed fast. By the time the news was released he was already walking it back and saying there will be another vote tomorrow (Friday). . He was only ever considering giving the speaker pro tempore additional temporary powers, but he’s never going to voluntarily give up the possibility of power. He’s trash. Hopefully, the group of holdouts continue to hold out — otherwise the group of ultra conservatives are going to become even worse behaved and nothing will be able to move through the house anyway.

. Hopefully, the group of holdouts continue to hold out I think the hold outs are going to dig their heels in. at least i hope they will. one of the new outlets just played a threatening voice message that someone received. i think more people who voted for him may withdraw their support if they are outraged by the threats and if they feel empowered by those who rejected him during votes #1 and #2. i think jordan has tasted the promise of power and he likes it. he's not going to drop out that easily but hopefully time will erode his support and they will come up with a more viable candidate.

He certainly is not giving someone a reason to trust him/want him in power. "I want the job." "No, nevermind, I don't want to be speaker." "I want to be Speaker."
I hope the hold outs continue to vote no for him every.single.time.

TFG and his allies have promised retribution on Democrats and now other Republicans are facing it now, too!! Although Jordan's office is claiming they are not responsible for the threats. Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO) who has been part of the score of Republicans denying with their vote Rep. Jim Jordan's (R-OH) ascension to power in the flailing bid to become the next House Speaker is facing chilling blowback. "So far, I've had four death threats," Buck said during an appearance on NBC News. "I've been evicted from my office in Colorado." *** Buck’s unflappable opposition to Jordan has instigated a Colorado’s Republican Party members to sharpen their attacks. Former gubernatorial candidate Heidi Gahanl implored people to badger Buck's office to call his office number and send emails. *** Buck is not the only lawmaker being cast a harassment target. Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA) confirmed this week that she too has received "credible death threats" following her no vote for Jordan. And the wife of Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE) was flooded with angry anonymous text messages seeking to urge her husband to change his vote. www.rawstory.com/buck-threats/

Well Jordan has changed his mind. He is running again. New conference at 8am Friday morning.. After failing multiple times to get enough votes to secure a role as House speaker, Jim Jordan announced he was dropping out of the race. But that didn't last long. He soon changed his mind, and now reports suggest he's going to pressure his fellow lawmakers using a Friday morning press conference.Jordan, who lost two votes and then held a reportedly unproductive meeting with those opposing him, is reportedly not giving up. The House of Representatives Judiciary Committee, where Jordan is chairman, announced the presser on its social media. Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) will hold a press conference tomorrow morning, Friday, October 20, 2023, at 8:00 a.m. ET in the Rayburn Room of the U.S. Capitol," the committee announced. Jake Sherman of Punchbowl News reported that Jordan, who is endorsed by Donald Trump for the position, will hold an early AM news conference Friday. "I am told this is an attempt to use the 'bully pulpit' -- to the extent he has one -- to try to drum up support for his bid to be speaker," Sherman reported on his social media. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez also chimed in. "An 8am Jim Jordan judiciary presser?" she wrote Thursday. "What’s he gonna do, announce that he’s going to impeach everyone who doesn’t vote for him?"www.rawstory.com/jordan-bully-pulpit/

But only the few of us get that line. I truly don't think a lot of Rs know what he is referring to. I asked my DH what he knew about any controversy. He said he didn't know. That maybe, vaguely, way back there was something at a university. ![](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/JvSt42CUoZ9LG952aAaF.jpg) But yeah, I had to school him on it. It doesn't matter to anyone who votes R. They just want to be in charge.

The Republican party is unfit to govern. Why would anyone trust them to do anything? They can't even get together in their own party to do the work for the American people. Yet people will still vote R no matter what.

Nothing like a rowdy group of fascists knifing each other to provide non-stop entertainment. (Yes, I call them fascists. As long as they insist on calling Dems “communists,” I’m digging in my kitten heels.) In the meantime, Bow Tie McHenry is inspiring memes all over the place. It would all be hilarious if not for the fact we have serious business to attend to. In the wider world, the dysfunction is being pointed at as evidence of America’s growing weakness (a sentiment which probably isn’t misplaced). Meanwhile, Dems are popping more corn because what else are they to do?
We have an epic battle coming up in less than a month to thwart a gov’t shutdown. We have to decide on Biden’s aid package. At this point, I don’t even care anymore who Rs vote for as long as they end this yin-yanging. If Bow Tie doesn’t want the job, there are reportedly about five possible candidates in the offing with the count expected to get higher. If they still can’t get their shit together, then Mike Turner (R-OH) is correct…a deal needs to be done with Dems. A bipartisan governing coalition, in other words. It’s not rocket science. Governments in peer countries do it all the time, and many of them do it without all this drama.

Never have seen so many disgruntled Republicans! They are all blaming the Democrats. Perhaps they should nominate someone worthy! The democrats have not changed their vote AT ALL in 18 votes. They are united. I would be disappointed at this point if a democrat changed their vote. The Republicans are the ones who are all over the place - changing their votes - not knowing what they want to do. Anyone blaming this on democrats has blinders on or is being purposefully obtuse.

Why aren't all votes anonymous? It would certainly stop any bullying. McCarthy is really getting on my nerves. He blames the Dens for voting him out with the '8' but knows full well his own party would have gleefully done the same, had they been in that position. He slagged the Dems off just before that but expected then to help save him? Then he's talking about the '8'- having effectively empowered then in order to secure his speakership. These people have such selective memory!

Although as to anonymous voting.. that doesn't work beyond caucus voting, because on bills/laws etc the constituents are entitled to know where the politicians really stand on issues.

Would be very interesting if the GOP had a secret vote as to whether they REALLY want Trump as the nominee for '24!

Absolutely. I’d like to think that the emails received after the first vote are what flipped my Reps vote to be against Jordan by the 3rd vote. I most certainly emailed. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one. Kean is going to have to navigate a redistricted district. I’m not sure there’s enough magats in this district now. I’m new to the district also so I’m not sure how much my vote counts but I sure as heck voted last Nov. & will this Nov 10 years ago I’d have seen it your way, I’m not even sure I cared who was speaker then. Who sent who from other states to congress. But it all matter too much now since we are at the top of the cliff trying not to fall.
