I'm really looking forward to the movie "Killers of the Flower Moon". The book is excellent. I just hope they don't try to make Ernest Burkhart (Leonardo DiCaprio) into a sympathetic character. I also hope information on how the Durmmonds got all that Osage Land comes out. I don't know enough about it, but it needs looking into.
So, did you read the book?

I didn't read that book ... All I know is that I could not sit through a three and a half hour movie in the theatre ... I would get antsy. I would have to wait for it to come out on a streaming service so that I could watch it at home ... If you go, let us know how it is!

I did read the book and thought it was ok, but did find the subject interesting. As someone that grew up in Oklahoma, it’s always interesting learning about a piece of history you never learned about in school.
I do plan to see the movie. I didn’t realize it was so long though!

I read the book and I saw the movie this afternoon at the theater. (A lot of the theaters around OKC had “sneak peeks” today. I thought the movie was very well done. As far as making Ernest a sympathetic character, they did make it out to appear he probably never would have committed such horrific crimes if it weren’t for the influence of his uncle. However, when I read the book, that was the impression I got as well. Of course it was no excuse for what Ernest did, but his uncle was the mastermind behind the crimes in both the movie and the book (at least in my opinion).
I’m so glad this horrific story is being told. I grew up in Oklahoma in a county which borders Osage County and my grandmother used to tell me about the white people who married the Osage and then murdered them, but I never heard about it in school.

I read the book and I thought the subject matter was really interesting, but I didn't think the author did the best job of telling the story. I thought the book was quite boring with too many dry facts and not enough skill to tell the story in a more interesting/entertaining way.
I might watch the movie eventually, but from what I've seen of the trailers so far, it's not grabbing me.

Thank you. It's really disheartening how little most Americans know about Native Americans. Most have no idea what they went through and are still going through.

I’m reading the book right now. Good friends in Oklahoma suggested it to us awhile back. I bought the book but never read it until I saw the movie was coming out. I do plan to see the movie but at 3-1/2 hours I will wait to stream it. I did not know the story before our friends mentioned it and that makes me sad. It’s a story that we should all know. I’m having a hard time with the book. It’s interesting and then it gets very boring and then interesting again but I'm sticking with it because I want to know the story.

I read it for Book Club. I enjoyed it very much. I doubt that I will see the movie.

I had some trouble with the book too, in that I started it, dropped it, and then restarted it earlier this year when I heard Scorsese was making the film. Such a fascinating story and I agree, the author could have done a better job, while still including all the research he did. I lived in Tulsa (about an hour away) for 8 years and just like the Greenwood Massacre, I never heard anything about what happened to the Osage when I was living there. Honestly, the 3 and a half hours scares me a little, but I figure a tv screen won't do justice to those wide Oklahoma skies. I can't convince DH to go, so I'll go to a matinee by myself. A little aside: some reporting has come out tying Pioneer Woman's husband Ladd's family's connection to the Osage Lands. Will link a story but not sure if it's a paywall. Vanity Fair also reported it. link

DH is reading the book now. We're debating seeing the movie, and trying to figure out when. We want to support movies like this being made, and so want to go to a theater. But three and a half hours is a lot to schedule. We normally go to Alamo on Tuesdays when they have discounted movies, and watch in The Big Show. But it would be after midnight by the time the movie finishes, which is hard on a Tuesday night. So we are still deciding if we want to go on a different day, or wait for streaming.

Personally if I have read the book I generally don’t see the movie because I find that the movie rarely does justice to the book.
DH has shown interest in seeing this movie so if we do then I won’t read the book.

I've read the book and will see the movie, but not sure whether I'll wait for streaming or see it in a theater. I agree with other peas that the book author could have told the story a bit better, but I did find the story itself very compelling. The fact that so few people know about this horrific bit of history is eye-opening.
