Last year, after receiving a print order from Snapfish on thin paper with torn edges, I ordered prints from 3 other online companies in hopes of identifying a good source for prints.
All around, I liked Persnickety Prints the best -- they offered gloss finish and true digital (my preference to avoid cropping) as well as 4 x 6 -- but their user interface was a little challenging. MPIX did not offer gloss prints or true digital size (instead 4 x 6 and 4 x 5, both require cropping for digital images), but shipping was quick and pricing o.k. since they had a special. Nations offers gloss prints but not true digital (instead 4 x 6 and 4 x 5), -- they are pretty pricey but considered a frontrunner for quality.
I've read some negative things about Persnickety lately (quality related), so I am considering trying Amazon for prints. Has anyone used them? If so, how was the quality? Do they use Kodak or Fuji paper? Or is it a thin paper like Snapfish went to?

judyc I still use Shutterfly for my everyday prints, and I print at home using my Selphy. I like that Shutterfly offers free prints on their app (I only pay shipping), and they offer glossy finish. The last time I ordered prints, I believe I paid around $10.00 shipping for 100-ish prints. They are 4x6 and do require cropping.

Does no one use an online service for printing photos? Or do you just not like the one you use enough to recommend them?

I know a lot of people, myself included, use Persnickety Prints. I don't have an alternative to suggest for you.

I use Walmart because I already pay for W+, so I can order small batches and get free shipping. When I order from Shutterfly or Mpix, the shipping was more than my prints, but I can't wait a month to order for PL. The quality is what you would expect from WM or Shutterfly.
When I go on a trip, I'll use Persnickety.

I use Persnickety Prints. My last order was several months ago and the quality (to me) was great. They have recently changed their ordering system and I find it easier to order. I have a cart ready and waiting for me to purchase. Larger sized prints (12x12, 8x8, 6x8) will be on sale starting tomorrow (Wednesday). The sale will be 2 days.
I curious, what about the quality has changed?

I used to use Costco, and was so sad when they quit doing photos. I haven’t printed anywhere else since. I have an Epson Picturemate that I’ve been using for my smaller prints. I have been curious about the quality of Amazon as well.

I used Amazon and their photos were printed by Shutterfly. It was fine for the cheap intro price but it wouldn't be my go to. I print at home with an Epson Picturemate and use Persnickety for full page photos, collages and enlargements. I have not noticed any difference in quality at PP this year compared to previous. A customer service person called me because I had uploaded the same photo 3x and they wanted to make sure I meant to have that same file 3 times (I didn't!). So I'm very happy with the service and attention to detail.

I use Persnickety and am still very pleased with them. I received a large order a couple of weeks ago. I find their updated system so much easier to order from.

It also sounds like I need to check into the Epson Picturemate. Seems a lot of scrappers use it. I have an HP Envy Photo 7855 and the color has been off for a couple of years. I don't know if the issue is the printer or photo editing software, Elements, or something lost in translation between the app and the printer. If I drop a jpeg into a Word document and print it, the color is better, but still not exactly like what I see on the screen.

Will probably give Persnickety another try since they did a good job when I ordered from them last year. However, I was surprised by the difference in the depth of color between them and Nations, and not sure either got it exactly true to reality.

I went ahead and ordered a batch of my unprinted photos from them to see how they compare to the other services I've tried. They had free shipping today - no minimum order - and 20% off for new customers.

I've never done it but if you are looking for a more realistic color that may help.

The colors end up garish and super saturated with my HP Envy, so I stopped trying to print photos using that printer. I now only use my Selphy or order prints. I'm looking at getting a new full size photo printer.

How timely for me. I’m sending photos for printing tomorrow and I usually go with Shutterfly. The the quality has always been good. I think I might give persnickety a try.
I used Amazon several years ago when they used some other now defunct company. Worst pictures ever. They were pictures of the boysenberry festival at Knotts Berry Farm. Looked more like a raspberry festival—all the purples turned out a dark pink. I’m afraid to try them again.

During the pandemic, I wasn't thrilled with the quality of my Persnickety Prints, but I wonder if they were having supply/labor issues like everyone else. I moved on to Costco online, and I liked their prints. When Costco's photo processing changed over to Shutterfly, I was very disappointed in how thin the paper was.
I now do all of my printing through Persnickety, and I couldn't be more pleased. The prints do show up a little warmer than some other companies, so I often brighten up my photos before sending them off. I love the look I get with full-page 6X8 photos. I buy print credits whenever it makes sense. They are also quick to process and ship.

I haven’t used Persnickety since WITL, so May 2023. Their quality is always outstanding. Mpix will be my backup when I need a cheaper option, but since a lot of my printing is for 3x4 pockets, I often use Persnickety due to laziness.
I used to own a photography business so I’m VERY picky about my print quality. I’ve never liked Shutterfly, Snapfish, any kiosk printers like Walgreens, or Costco. I am curious about Amazon, but suspect they will not be great.
I don’t print glossy so I’m not terribly in tune with who offers that option.

When I got Amazon photos a few years ago it was from Snapfish and I thought the photos were great. Not sure if they have changed to Shutterfly now. I did a test sending the same photos to Shutterfly, persiniky, snapfish and amazon and walgreens. I liked the snapfish and amazon (which were identical) ones followed by our local Walgreens. But the absolute best was my Epson PM400. I still can't get over how great it prints.

I'm just seeing this post. I use FreePrints app on my iphone. Love that they have the matte option, and print the dates on the backs of the pictures. 85 free prints each month, you can go over just pay a few cents each pic over and pay shipping.

I already have the Shutterfly app but I can’t get it to work. I tried to delete the old pictures and trashed them but they came back as still active. I sent something to customer service ot at least tried to. The app kept closing. It seems that the app is set up more for buying stuff and printing photos is secondary. I downloaded the Persnickety app. Hope I have better luck.

I used to use Shutterfly, but I hate that their prints always come out so dark. I like Amazon, and always order the "luster" finish. It's the same price, but I like it better than the glossy. One thing to note is their go-to size isn't 4x6. I think it's 4x5 or similar. Sometimes I forget to change it (I like 4x6), and then I get a bunch of pics smaller. Not really a big deal overall.

Not sure if the website changes also made app changes.
