We are flying out to Las Vegas on Christmas day. We are cheap with flights and usually use Spirit for Vegas,non-stop and never have any major issues, just slight delays. Well we booked it a month or so ago non stop for Christmas day in the afternoon so we could do Christmas breakfast with our daughter like normal. Well now they have added a layover in Atlanta for five hours. We won't get to Vegas until almost midnight. Ugh.
Will most airport restaurants still be open, at least fast food? I'm going to pack some extra good snacks, but we'll need some real food and dh isn't a fan of cold sandwiches. We had our favorite Vegas steak place booked for dinner but I guess it's airport food for us. And a LONG exhausting day!

We have. I don't recall much about the food except that I think there were a few random places open. Most places were not open, though, or closed up early, if I remember correctly. We stopped at an IHOP on our way home from the airport.

It will be hit or miss. Whether a restaurant is open is up to the individual companies and whatever their policy is.

I would plan for the worst and hope for the best.
Definitely take plenty of snacks just in case nothing is open.

You should be able to find the restaurants on the airport's website... they should list the hours they are open, if they are opened.
I used to work for the airlines (but that was awhile ago) and it was at the time a light flying day unless there was weather and that just ruined it for the whole holiday.

When we flew through Atlanta last year, not on a holiday, we were shocked at how few restaurants were open in the morning and in the evening (7pm). I wouldnt count on anything there on Christmas without calling to verify.

We've flown on Christmas and I honestly don't recall if there was much open. I'd pack a sandwich and snacks for everyone just in case.

Damn 5 hour layover - I'd frankly be looking at other options. It's usually pretty cheap to fly on the holidays. We used to do it for Christmas every year when the kids were young so we could spend Christmas morning at home. In general restaurants have been challenging in airports, so I wouldn't expect much. Best of luck!

You may want to call the airline to see if there is another flight that same day.
Delta changed our flights last year to a flight time that wouldn't work and we checked online and saw earlier flights with seats. We called and they rebooked our switched flight at no cost. Don't give up and check periodically if unsuccessful at first

While there may not be food open that late in the airport, I would think you wouldn't have any trouble finding someplace open on the Strip.

I know this isn’t your question - but I would change my flight to another non stop flight.

I’ve flown once on Christmas, almost 20 years ago… Spokane, WA to Seattle, WA, during the day. Both airports were empty and most (if not all) of the restaurants were closed.
This was a long time ago, so things definitely could have changed.

I’d be looking for another flight. No way I want to be in an airport for five hours.

I have not flown through Atlanta on Christmas but even on a regular day most places seem to close early, ever since Covid.

We have flown from LAX to Kansas City on Christmas Day. LAX was packed, and I recall a lot, if not all stores and food places were open. Now once we landed in Kansas City, there was limited stores open. This was prior to the pandemic. I hate flying that close to the holidays. It takes away from a nice, relaxing holiday for us.

I have flown often on Christmas, and I have not had any issue getting food during the day (i.e. not super early morning or late at night, when stuff tends to be closed anyway). I fly out of a major airport, which might make a difference. I imagine Atlanta would be as busy as anywhere!
