I’m trying really hard to become some sort of marker girl (it’s a struggle for me, but I will win).
Right now the markers are tossed in a shallow Alex drawer, which really isn’t useful when I actually want to use them. Counter and desk space is tight, so I’d prefer something that is organized, but not bulky AND, when pulled out to use, doesn’t take up valuable real estate to get to them. Does such a thing exist?
Conversely, it would be ok to have something out on the counter I suppose. I’m looking at some stackable trays at SBcom, but they’re a little pricey and I wonder if you all have something more cost efficient to suggest. My pens are predominately OLOs, which are double ended, so I’d prefer to store them on their sides.
Thanks a bunch!

I have two of the marker storage units from Organize More for my Copics.

I just have all of my different markers in a Sterlite drawer behind my desk so I just turn around, pull the drawer out and go. Then it’s super easy to pick up as well. In the drawer some are in separate cases, many aren’t. Super functional, not very pretty. But I use them for everything, I think I have 6 large 3-drawer sets and 9 small ones.
If I used them often I’d probably get the one from Organize More or similar and store it on or near my desk. Not one that holds them individually though, adding markers would be a pain if I wanted to keep them in a specific order…and I would. Also, do not get the COPIC clear case, such a PITA.
eta: For now, before you decide if this is something you enjoy, I’d consider not buying anything, rather just put them in a ziplock, pencil case, box lid in the Alex unit so you can lift it to your desk when you want to use them. That way you haven’t spent any money if you decide this method of coloring isn’t for you.

I have my Altenews in two little three-drawer sterlite-like units from Michael's. Each drawer hold two sets of 12 and is labeled with both sets, plus the three blending groups in each. When I sit down to color I generally pull out my (single-page) swatch chart, decide which sets I'll be using, and pull those drawers out of the unit and bring them to the desk.
And, yes, I then put them back in the drawer in a persnickety order before returning the drawers to the units.
Yes, yes I am both an earth sign and a Myers-Briggs "J"...why do you ask?

I don't use markers much but I have some mesh/plastic pouches that some kits come in to store my markers - I have double ended Tombows. They fit easily lying flat. I have them grouped loosely by color family. I can pull out each bag in turn and choose what I need and then leave the ones I'm currently using on my desk without getting mixed up. I just have them standing up in a deep drawer so they don't take up too much space but I can grab any color bag easily and the markers are stored flat. Since I only use them here and there it works fine for me and I wouldn't want to spend a lot on storage even if I had desk space for something. these pouches

I should buy some of the smaller pouches, for sure. I have the big ones and use them all the time but your size would be super useful too.
I hate the idea of dropping $35+ $15 shipping on the organize more units, so I’ll keep poking around. I don’t really want them loose in a drawer, even if it’s a smaller one like the Sterilite ones. Maybe AE has something…

These link are the drawers I have. Thanks - I think I have some of those lurking in 'currently un-used storage' shelves - I'm going to dig them out and see if I like them for markers

I got these zipper bags because of how many pens they hold, they are secure, can lay flat, are washable, easy to bring along with me, and have a pocket on the outside. They are in one of my 3 tiered carts from Michaels and easy to grab.

I use cases that I buy on Amazon, but I have a lot of alcohol markers. If your OLO markers are alcohol based, you don't have to store them horizontally. Alcohol markers can be stored vertically. At least that's what I learned in the Copic certification classes I took. Here is a picture of the cases I have (sorry it's so big). It opens up so that you can "flip" through them.

I buy zipper bags like these all the time and we use them absolutely everywhere for everything. And they come in multiple sizes in a pack. We keep a pack available at all times so when I need something I can grab it right away. I use all black zippers because I’m boring that way but there are tons of colors to choose from.
