I did the Crop & Create scrapbooking event that was this weekend. The owner said they’re moving to just one event in each category a year. One paper-crafting (scrapbooking) and one card making and then the holiday event in 2024.
I was a tiny bit bummed at this announcement because I love their scrapbooking ones and have also done the card ones here and there. But I understand the need for them to change as these are such massive undertakings for them and their team.
However, I was very happy to hear the paper-crafting scrapbooking one will be all layouts going forward! Yeah! This made me and my friends doing the event together both happy and surprised! Several of us (me included) don’t do mini books or only do certain themed or types of mini books. I like the extra projects but I know others would prefer to change everything we get in our box into a layout. Several of our group have stopped doing the event because of this and are very happy to rejoin for the next one in April.
I wanted to share, especially for those who love all layout based classes. The next scrapbooking event is in April and sign ups will be this month so keep an eye on your email.

Thanks for the info. Will y’all let us know when it is? I haven’t attended previously so won’t get an email. I think I’d like to do the scrapbooking event, especially since it’s going to be all layouts and likely not fall themed since it’s in April. I’m in South Central Texas, we have very little fall even in the hill country.

I was happy to hear of the focus on layouts also. While I like making cards, I was a bit disappointed about 3 card projects in the fall event. I prefer the focus on memory keeping.
I am excited about the sketch class and the quarterly scrapbook kit/ class too.

I love the events, but they are too expensive to do all of them every year, so this change is okay with me, as long as they accept more applications to allow for us who did one OR the other event in the past to fit into the one annual card or scrapbook event.
In my experience, we got SO. MUCH. PRODUCT. in each event that it I don't know how someone could use it all up between events the way they are scheduled now. It would be nice if they swapped seasons for the events each year. So one year spring/summer cards and fall/winter pages and the next year spring/summer pages and fall/winter cards.

I'm really happy about the layouts-based event, too, I think it's great! I'm not a mini album person, either. They shouldn't have included cards this past weekend, in my opinion, but I think Crafter's Companion probably insisted on it since they have those new card kits that match their scrapbook lines to show off. They also sell those markers we got, so I figure they must spend a lot of money on advertising with SCT. I doubt they'll do cards in April's event if it's all layouts - they'll have parameters for the companies they're working with.
It is a ton of product to get twice a year. I still have projects from all of the past crop and create events to do except one card and one scrapbooking event. At least now I'll have more time to finish those up, and I'll save some money. I like the idea of the smaller events, too - I'm interested to see what the quarterly scrapbooking events will be like.
So at first I was disappointed, but it's probably for the best in the long run, this many events every year just isn't sustainable for me, personally.

I forgot they’re also doing more scrapping education/kits too! Yes I’m happy about that. I’m a little concerned with shipping on such small kits from Canada though. I won’t be able to swing let’s say $25 shipping on top of each kit from them. That will make me pass on the kits, no matter how great they are. I do have some local friends who might buy those too though. Maybe we could combine our boxes. I’d love if they could ship those from a partner in the US instead though. It would be nice if they swapped seasons for the events each year. So one year spring/summer cards and fall/winter pages and the next year spring/summer pages and fall/winter cards. This is the perfect solution. For the scrapbooking one especially, it would help us not always have spring and floral types of papers in our kits every year, or not aways fall things. Plus it spreads the events out for the holiday event, to not always have the same two so close together.

Oh this sounds great! I missed getting into this fall one and I’m hoping to do the next one! I believe the next one is the weekend of April 27-28, just an FYI. Registration must be soon, but I can't remember if they said when exactly.

I believe they said that alumni registration for the April event will open on November 21.
As for the changes, I’m hopeful that they are going to be a good thing. I know I mentioned in another post that I felt the card making event had gotten too big and that I was ready to cut down on the number of events I was signing up for. Somehow I managed to talk myself into doing ALL of them this year! No regrets, but what was I thinking? The proposed changes sound like they’ll fit in with what I’d like to do in the coming year. I have a set amount of money that I put aside each month to cover event costs and it feels like my budget will go farther as SCT cuts down on events and costs.
I’ll definitely sign up for the April event (I loved this past weekend!) and I’m looking forward to seeing the smaller layout kits they’ll be doing. I’ll probably do the holiday event - it just makes me happy! And maybe I’ll have some money left over to do the TE Stamp Joy event.
