I saw this on their instagram feed. I really wish they were more specific about what products you get in your kit. For $179 "stamps and embellishments for all 10 cards" doesn't sound like that much of a deal even with a "$75 goodie bag".

I look at their Advent calendar and how many were disappointed with that last year. And it was expensive! I want to try it, so I'm going to register for Saturday only. Hopefully they'll give us some sneaks!

Yay! I'm really tempted, so I'm glad to see someone else is in! I definitely can't see the additional time and money to do the Friday add on, though.

I thought about trying it too, but what’s holding me back is the card stock coming pre-cut. I’m guessing that means no dies included which would make reproducing designs impossible or expensive. More detail on what’s included would be very helpful!

More detail on what’s included would be very helpful! I watched a couple of YouTube videos for last year's unboxing and heard that same comment from them. There were a couple dies, such as Hello, but you would have to purchase other supplies or use your stash to duplicate the other die cuts. Each card came in a bag with individual cut pieces.

Definitely a big no. I have done one of their event in the past and was underwhelmed with the product I received. I thought it was very less for the money I paid. Classes were great but not being transparent about products makes me very skeptical after my experience with them.
The least they can do is provide a proper description of stamp sizes and how many dies or stencils will be included. It's ok to not know and share designs during sign ups but I would expect more transparency for the no. of products at least.
C9 always says how many stamps/dies/stencils along with other products are included. SCT boxes are loaded with products. Pinkfresh gives very clear product description. Altenew also mentions products included without even showing product photos. At least it makes all of these events worthwhile knowing what you will get vs going blind with Taylored Expressions.

At least one or two folks in my TE card sharing has attended one of these and recommended it, but I will ask some of these questions.

I just assumed it was pre-cut cardstock so you had their colors and it may be a tiny square of cardstock to die cut (a la Spellbinders for C&CD).

So my curiosity had me googling for an unboxing video. This woman paid for Friday & Saturday so $278 for her box....so not worth it in my opinion. Also, there was a lot that was pre-die cut.

When I read "pre-cut" I guess I was thinking it would be like what Spellbinders did for C&CD -- half-, quarter-, and eighth-sheet sized cuts of all the colors you needed for die cutting....

Thanks for sharing that video, pinklady. I fully agree that it was not worth the cost and I’ll be looking elsewhere.
Anyone have suggestions for companies to keep an eye on for events? We can rule out Altenew - not my style. I’m starting to think that I’m a bit spoiled by the SCT events.

I thought that the Altenew Christmas event was very different in style than the Secret Garden one or the things they've done at C&CD. I would definitely check out that thread (I don't think I'm the only one who posted completed projects, but I could be misremembering) and if it was different enough from the all-big-billowy-florals-all-the-time for you, you might keep an eye on what they're doing in case they offer something like that again.
Concord & 9th Summer Camp has so far been my absolute favorite single-brand event.

Thanks Shakti, I’ll keep an eye out for those.
And I will check out the Altenew thread. You were so right! Those “ all-big-billowy-florals-all-the-time” just don’t do it for me!! 😄

MDscrapaholic, you'll have to let us know how you like it! Thanks for sharing the links. I love all these card making events but I'll have to pass on this. I enjoyed the Taylored Expressions class during the SCT event though. I would rather have all the stamps and dies instead of having everything pre-cut because I would like to replicate the cards. And I usually make mistakes on my cards so I'd like to have the dies handy in case I want to cut an image again. Plus, I wish they would show some spoilers.

My favorites for that are pinkfresh, hero arts-stamp-along, c-9 summer camp, and crop and create. I have been to stamp joy and dine virtual stamp joy. It’s fun but it’s expensive for what you get. You do get some stamp, dies, etc but a lot of it is precut and prestamped so you can only make the card once. I also think a lot of the techniques are simpler. I also like the creative journey art retreat because it is techniques but I wish she would use more products on each card. Sometimes I find the cards to be too simple because the artists are trying to use so few products.

scrappinheather have you purchased the full set when you’ve done HA stamp-alongs, used your existing stash, or a combo? And between virtual Stamp Joy and in-person, which do you think is the better value?

I do like having the class kit but you really can substitute stuff from your stash and learn techniques. For stamp joy it’s a lot of $$ to fly there, pay for a hotel, etc. In retrospect I don’t think they give you that much more product at the in person stamp joy but they provide all of the materials to do the make and takes so at least you get to use the actual stamps and dies and get a feel for what the actual sets are like if you want to own them. They are very generous with their giveaways at both events. The crafting stores that are near stamp joy are amazing. The extra events they do at stamp joy are fun. But I went once and I don’t think I would go again.

I'm doing her smaller Fall Virtual Stamp Joy event on Saturday (11 Nov). It's just one class where we'll be making four cards that focus on stenciling techniques. I admit I found it odd that for two of the four cards, our kit included die cuts for the sentiment, but we didn't get the coordinating stamp set. The stamp set had to be purchased separately. I've decided I'm just going to substitute and use other sentiments I already have for those two cards and just put stamp them circle die cuts or something.
If memory serves, I think registration for this weekend's event was $89 which included shipping for the kit. Here is what my kit included:
- Class Instruction Booklet - Labeled packet for each card which includes precut cardstock pieces, die cuts, foil, embellishments, etc. - One Cling & Clear Stamp Combo - Four 6x6 Designer Stencils - Four Share Joy Envelope Seals
Looking at the list, I didn't get $89 worth of product. That being said, I was satisfied with what I got though since I know part of the fee I pay is for the teaching aspect as well.

SU demonstrators and Hero Arts Stamp-Alongs regularly price approximately that amount of live instruction with recordings available later but no product at $45. The Hero Arts ones also have instructors who are known in the industry. SU demonstrators also regularly price 10-card kits of card stock, (pre-cut) die cuts, embellishments, envelopes, etc with PDF instructions but no video at about the same price. That gets you to ~$90, so if you think the durable goods (stamps, dies, stencils, embossing folders) included in the Virtual Stamp Joy kit seem like they're worth ~half the total price, it's not really a rip off. It does look like many of the stamps included have dies, but some additional elements were included pre-cut. I have used my stash and purchased the items and I think you can do either. I do like having the class kit but you really can substitute stuff from your stash and learn techniques. I did one of these. I looked over the kit elements, pulled some similar things from my stash and purchased a few I liked. There were some where I didn't like the product and couldn't find a sub I did like, either in my stash or another HA product. I don't think it worked out all that well, but I also didn't really finish the classes at that time, either. It's all still sitting in my event bin, so I should probably pull it out again at some point. I like Hero a lot and would like to figure out how to make their events work for me!

It was advertised in conjunction with the big in-person Stamp Joy that happened recently. Registration closed right around the time the Connect with Community emails were sent out. I noticed it, passed on it, then only a few days later realized, "Oh, hey, now I'm involved with a TE group and might want to explore these products a little more...".

I think a lot of people missed this one because it was announced the same time as the Fall in person event. It's actually just a virtual version of one of the classes from the in person event, I think.

I did the virtual Stamp Joy last year, Oct 2022. I'm a big fan of TE so I was excited to participate. It included a quad stencil set, sentiment stamps, a piece of foil, and the paper, for $89. You had to provide the usual items - inks, blending brushes, embossing paraphernalia, paper trimmers etc. which was all fine. I had most of the inks and work arounds on the other required items (rectangle dies, background stamp)
Sadly, I was really disappointed with the kit. The quad stencil was called Scenic Route. It made cards looking like mountains with a stream going through it. The stamps, called Scenic Sentiments, are faith based. Prayer, joy, you are loved, a verse from Psalm, that sort of thing. Not what I usually use. If they had sneak peeks I would not have wasted my money. I have it in my sell pile (if I ever get around to listing things).
One technique I do remember from the class and still use is after you ink blend an area of a stencil, don't move the stencil and ink up a subtle background stamp (I used an old SU! burlap wood mounted stamp) in white ink and stamp over the stencil onto the inked area. It gives a nice unexpected texture to the area.
Anyway, that was my one and done TE Stamp Joy experience.

The Fall Virtual Stamp Joy event happened earlier today. I don't know that I necessarily learned anything new, but I had fun and we made some really cute cards. One thing I found very frustrating during the event was regarding a technique they were showing for one of the cards. They had us dry embossing using a stencil, but they only gave sandwich information for the Big Shot using a special embossing pad set they sell. For those of us with other machines, we were completely on our own to try and figure out how to make the technique work. I never figured out a sandwich for my Platinum 6 that would emboss my cardstock and actually ended up warping my stencil in the process. Thankfully, when I commented about it in the chat, Taylor replied and said she thought they had a few extra in their warehouse and told me to email support. I got a reply back pretty quickly that a replacement stencil is being sent out to me which makes me very happy because I loved the stencil and it was a class exclusive which isn't available in her online store. It would have been really nice if they had sandwich information available as well for some of the more commonly used machines like the Platinum, Gemini, etc. I had to improvise the sentiments on two of the cards because I didn't have the stamp set called for and it wasn't included in the class kit. They only provided the actual die cuts, but not the stamps or dies. 🤷🏻♀️ I also found that somewhat frustrating. I would rather pay a bit more and get everything I need as far as stamps, dies, and stencils go vs. spending $80-90 for a three-hour class then still have to spend another $80-90 to buy things that weren't included in the kit. We did get the stamps for the two Wish cards shown below, but we didn't get the dies as they weren't available when we signed up for the event. They were released today exclusively for SJ participants, but again, it would cost another $40 to get both the Wish die and the coordinately script sentiments because they are $20 each, although we do have a 10% discount code good for this weekend only. They were very generous with their giveaways through the event. After we made each card, there would be a giveaway round. Each round consisted of four people each winning a $25 gift certificate to the TE online store and a fifth person winning a merch bundle of TE branded products (note: this bundle did not include any stamps or dies, it was stickers, a journal, a couple of craft room posters, etc.). At the end of the event, one person won a grand prize which was a free Saturday pass to the Spring event. If the winner had already registered and paid, they would get a refund for the Saturday pass they purchased. Here are the four cards we made during the event today. The two front cards are the ones where I had to improvise on the sentiments. The card in the upper right corner is definitely my favorite. You can't really tell it in the photo above, but the little black stars are glitter paper and the polka dot background is actually foiled using Mystic Rainbow Deco Foil. Here's a close-up that shows it off a bit better. So, that's my experience in a nutshell. Would I do this event again? I'm not sure. As I mentioned, I didn't feel like I necessarily learned anything new. If I had, I would do it again. Since I didn't, I would probably rather just spend that money on some TE products where I know what I'm getting and come up with my own card designs. I hope I answered any questions anyone had. If not, feel free to tag me and ask and I will do my best to answer them.
